Boy Walks 4.8 Km In Freezing Cold To Attend His School, And His Living Conditions Will Break Your Heart
Recently, an 8-year-old Chinese boy walked approximately 3 miles (4,8 km) to his Zhuanshanbao Primary School in the township of Xinjie in Yunnan Province, China. In 16°F (-9°C) cold. To take an exam. After his trek went viral, people started contacting the school, trying to contribute in any way they could to improve learning conditions for him and other students.
Fu Heng, the headmaster of the primary school, could not believe his eyes. Upon arrival, his student had icicles instead of his hair and eyebrows, contrasting with his burning red cheeks. Heng snapped a picture of the little fellow, marking the beginning of this crazy story. The internet has dubbed him as “Ice Boy,” and soon the school has received more than $15,000 in donations, 20 heating equipment and 144 warm set of clothes.
“It was the first day of their final exams,” Heng said. “The temperatures dropped to minus nine degrees Celsius in about 30 minutes that morning.” The headmaster claimed the boy lives far away from the school. Heng also noted that he is considered as the “class clown”, constantly finding ways to make his 16 classmates die of laughter. It’s crazy to think the boy maintains a positive attitude, despite living in extreme poverty and spending most of the time with his sister and grandma only.
According to Fu, the school tries to watch over him and others as much as it can, providing them with breakfast but admitted that their classrooms weren’t properly heated due to a lack of funding. Moved by the boy’s will, people on the internet hope he can build himself a better life if he continues to put his education first.
The internet has nicknamed this 8-year-old Chinese student as the ‘Ice Boy’
And while you probably did everything you could to avoid an exam at school, he did the opposite
‘Ice Boy’ walked approximately 3 miles (4,8 km) to his primary school in 16°F (-9°C) cold so he would not miss his test
“It was the first day of their final exams,” the headmaster who snapped pictures of the student said
“The temperatures dropped to minus nine degrees Celsius in about 30 minutes that morning”
The teacher pointed out that the school does not even have heaters to help pupils warm up after a long walk
The boy lives far away in a small village with his sister and grandmother
He lives in poor conditions, but remains certain his life will get better if only he gets educated
People on the internet were incredibly moved by the boy’s trek
Since the photo got viral, the school has received more than $15,000 in donations, 20 heating equipment and 144 warm set of clothes

Share on FacebookI love this side of Internet where people in need get helped because of an online post. :)
It's great that he and his school got some assistance. Hopefully they have the money for the electricity to run the heating units. It's unfortunate that there are so many children that could use help but don't get it because people don't realize the need. Out of sight, our of mind.
Load More Replies...and while this happend they are ten of thousand of kids who try everyting to not go in school! this kid know that Learning is important
Look at his determination to be in a better position. Reminds me of the quote that when life squeezes you, the only way you go is UP!
Load More Replies...This just makes my heart sing. I hope people send more money and buy that kid a donkey, New warm clothes, shoes, some food and toys and something for grandma like clothes and something fun for her to make.
As a Chinese I find it disgraceful for this to happen in a country with such wealth, Rich officals flashing their wealth, buying up properties and expensive brands from abroad , not a bit of f**k was given to their own country. I often speak out against communism and criticize on the current state of corruption, only to be condemn by people as traitor and how I do not Love China. Funny these people who often speak of loving china never did a thing for their country , While traitor here has constructed 11 water well across Szechuan province so poor families didnt need to walk 3 hours daily to get water.
The fact that you criticise the bad things of China, means you are a real patriot. Because you think China deserves better than this.
Load More Replies...hey, I hope the money gets to the boy.... he's a determined young man if he pursues life in the same way he can achieve anything he wants to. Love the little boy
This is a great feel-good story. Yes, there are many more kids like this and yes, many live in even more deplorable situations but that doesn't mean we should ignore this child. We had the chance to help him just because his story went viral so let's just hope many more stories will go viral so we can help more people.
Thank you for posting your comment. I was thinking the same thing. People saying "That's great, BUT....". Irritates me.
Load More Replies...sadly I was born and lived in a small village that was like this, only the people hated me cause of me being albino and tall {super religious and superstitious old people of like 5 families and only like 2 other kids, older than me in the whole place} so when I was with out my mother I was physically abused, picked up and tossed out of places, wacked at, called names, everthing, But it came to a head when I stood up to one of the kids {he was trying to hit me in the head with a large rock and I pushed him on his butt}....and the kids dad came and....tryed to shoot me, only he ended up shooting my mother before cops arived {not sure who called, if they didnt I would have died} I had a lot more bad stuff happen to me too but thats when I was more a teen and I just wanted to say how THIS STUFF CAN HAPPEN TO KIDS
Winced & burned with a burning frozen shame & humiliation at classmates scoffing laughs; yet that same internal flame persisted within... His tiny little hands already scarred by frostbite, his face red & roughen by the ferocious. This young boy is more ferocious & has already built up great endurance that will last his lifetime. Perhaps being from the Yakut (Siberian) makes me also embrace eve the nickname given him - Ice Boy!
It seems he doesn't have a scarf or mittens - both would have helped. People who live in cold places should know this! Even a piece of cloth or pockets would have prevented this.
Load More Replies...I'm glad this boy by, his family and his school hot offered help. But sometimes I don't get people. Just last year I saw a series of photo's of child refugees living in tents in winter and the reactions of my fellow readers were anything but heartwarming.
Nowadays people often turn off their empathy button once they know they are refugees. It's shocking.
Load More Replies...I thought the same. Kids can be so cruel. What a legend of a boy! I hope his life will take a turn for the better.
Load More Replies...Poor kid, the others are laughing at him cause his frosty hair. This kid has more determination then I do, when I was his age I never saw school as important for my future, I just wanted to go home and play...
The will of some children is amazing. Mine would just stay in bed because they are privileged. It's so sad.
meanwhile i'm wearing 3 layers when the temperature is below 60 (this is florida)
And I bet you anything the poor older sister never got to go to any school since she is a girl and thus is only useful for helping the house and marrying off. HER life will be the same. He is lucky to have been born a boy. Their parents are probably working in the city, if they are still around.
there is something wrong somewhere. we co-exist in a world where kids or anyone can die by freezing cold and starvation while others enjoy luxury in any possible thing.
I think I would like to know this child's address so I can buy him an insulated coat, and clothes and shoes. He desperately needs some insulated gloves/mittens. Please send me where I can send clothes to, to make certain he is the child who receives the package. The conditions this sweet child lives in make me sick and how any of us can sleep at night knowing this child's hands are frost-bitten and injured is too much. Please forward a way we as Americans can help improve his life. I do not want my items for this child in the hands of the Chinese government.
I crochet and would like to make some hats, scarves, gloves and blankets for W**g and the other children in need. Where would I send them?

It is a big deal for this boy and others like him but if you think this is bad to be happening in China, you should find out what it's like in Chinese-occupied Tibet where they have to pay to send their kids to school. Many of them can't do this and often children have to escape across the Nepalese border, trying to avoid being shot by border guards so they can finally get an education in Nepal and India. How do I know this? I've taught some of these refugees in India and the stories I've heard are devastating.
This not only broke my heart, but put it through multiple freeze-thaw cycles that broke it more.
I would really like to punch every one of those little a******s who laughed at him in their throats....
Hopefully some of those donations went to clean that shack up this child lives in, with the filth its a wonder he hasn't died from disease. Poor little mite cold, hungry and filthy. It doesn't mention the girl with him whom im assuming is his sister, her plight is the same as his unless since China puts no value on girls she isnt allowed an education.
He needs a hat and warm gloves and he should be fine. That is not particularly cold for the winter. My Dad walked at least 3 miles from his farm to school every day growing up (in Minnesota). The school was heated only be a single stove. I'm glad they got the heating units. The little girl should have looser pants. The stretch pants are almost like walking with bare legs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for everything the school has been given by so many kind strangers and realise it will help all the school kids but wouldn't it be a little more useful if you used some of those donations to get some sort of transport so the kids don't have to travel such long distances?
It didn't even look like there was a road to the school, in parts.
Load More Replies...Isn't China rich enough to take care of their own citizens? Of course they are! But they don't have to when donations from other countries pay for them
Im Happy he got help and agree a fund me should be set up for him and his school.
Wrong? Helping this young child and his school could never be wrong, what's your bent thinking A ghost?
I feel so bad for this kid. If I could I would donate money to him. Every thing will get better, bro. Stay 💪 strong
Somebody call Ellen so she can help these kids or start a go fund me, I want to help so bad.
You start a go fund me. You can't expect other people to always do something.
Load More Replies...China is aggressively building up its military to subjugate other peoples, such as the Tibetans. They could provide more for their poorest people, if they stopped spending so much on their military.
It's funny what the world sees from the outside. I seriously doubt their military needs boosting for the purpose of keeping Tibetans in line. There is so much more to what China is doing that affects their poorest people. They're taking an aggressive stance on environmental reforms. Big businesses are being closed all over the country if the cannot keep up to code with the regulations. This of course affects a lot of jobs and the country has to adapt quickly, which they're actually great at doing. What's interesting is that other countries take a microcosm like this and act like certain dark elements to China's government are much bigger than they really are and they're just like North Korea. The US is looking far worse right now.
Load More Replies...F**k this! I'm sorry but I'm from Eastern Europe and also EU, and I went to school by myself when it was minus 20 or 25, and went to work when it was minus 32 in Riga, our capital city, few years ago, and my eyelashes froze, my stockings froze to my knees and skin and nobody was feeling sorry for me!
I also think you are getting pretty emotional here. When I was a kid we also did the same. Took the little ones in the middle of our group so they have it easier to walk. Difference, we had good shoes and gloves and where secure from the cold until we reached the heated school. The point of the story of lil chinese boy, people still have a heart and are reminded to those who are not in a privileged situation. It makes them feel aware of the world out there and still they cannot change it, they spill one drop of water onto the hot stone and make lil boys live easier for a second. He how became a hero for 15 minutes and bam life is.... whatever I guess I made my point clear. Save the world, save the cheerleader.

Heating equipment doesn't necessarily mean electric heaters. There are heaters that run off of a multitude of fuel sources. Hopefully those who helped made sure the heaters could be readily supplied with fuel.
