There are two things I like (well, maybe two out of a zillion, but these are the BIG likes)–Travel and Photography. I take a lot of pictures when I travel, but to be honest, I am not the photographer who researches locations beforehand.

I am the photographer who thinks, “Oh, it’d be cool to visit (fill in the blank)” and then I go.

Two things invariably happen. First, I stumble across things I never expected. Second, I find out later details about the things I saw. (The third thing, which is not covered here, is finding out about the things I missed).

This morning, during my after trip research finding out the details of things I photographed, I discovered this 12th century castle – Stahleck – in Germany, is now a youth hostel.

I had NO clue castles were available as lodging. Turns out there are 40 or so castles you can stay at in Germany, and many more in Austria, Belgium, France, the UK and elsewhere.

I probably will never stay in Stahleck Castle. But perhaps there is another castle in my future…
