People Are Jokingly Tweeting Things They Love About Boomers And Here Are 40 Of The Most Amusing Posts
It's fascinating to see how people's attitudes and views have changed throughout all these years. Sure thing, everyone is unlike each other no matter what generation you were born in – however, speaking strictly about the societies of specific periods, the difference is truly bewildering.
Each generation has its own twist, whether it's something positive or not. Every one of us has lived or is living in our own version of the world, and sometimes it's simply impossible to imagine what the following generations could be like.
Take boomers and those that fall into generation Z, for instance. The contrast between these two is immense, and it's impressive how distant the generations are from each other. Besides, most of you have probably heard that "OK boomer" catchphrase that came around a couple of years ago: it was and sometimes is still used to sort of mock the attitude of the pre-millennial folks.

Well, today, we'll be focusing on the boomers and boomers only, as these Twitter users decided to gather together and reveal occasionally sarcastic yet amusing things they absolutely adore about those mid-20th-century babies.

Hey, no - pay at least cursory attention to what they're saying if they're giving directions to their house because they will know the quirks. Google maps *still* does not show the road leading to my house if you are coming from a certain direction. If you're going to ignore human advice and rely on tech alone, be prepared to end up in a field. (But, yes, if they're giving directions to somewhere that has existed since before you were born, live traffic GPS is the way to go)
This "OK Boomer" s**t is nothing but woke ageist hypocrisy. Stop calling people contempt-filled names! There is much more to a person than the year they were born.
Turn left at the tree. Right at the trash dumpster. F Google maps. Whatcha gonna do when it goes offline? Listen child... turn left at the tree
Google maps is good, but not always right. There are a few work sites I drive to that Google maps would have me drive across folks yards and at one particular site, drive backwards on and exit ramp for a major highway and through a fence.
I lived on top of a mountain. Dead end street. Navigation apps kept sending semi trailers up our hill to get stuck. The city posted a huge sign at the start of the road to warn them. They still drove up and hot stuck. Guess they couldn't read a sign or a map.
This whole thread is funny because guess what? The generation running down the Boomers will one day be in their 60s and 70s and getting grief from a younger generation. I only wish I could be around to tell them "I told you so".
We didn't vote to ruin the planet. We didn't want your wars or your fossile fuel or your broken real estate market. When gen z make fun of us, we think it's cute. We know how many people are on this planet and we try to accommodate. That's the difference between boomers and everyone after.
Load More Replies...I think it's valuable to be able to navigate manually, but yeah I still Google map it.
I am a boomer...people try to give me directions and like you I google it. Don't have cable or a landline...only use snail mail if I have to...I do as much as possible online on my cell, or in conjunction w/NexDock... That said, you need to have a rudimentary understanding of what a map and directions are...sometimes Google maps goofs and tries to send you somewhere stupid crazy..
Because we know you younger people are a bit slow, we try to make you use your brains
Let's start from the beginning; baby boomers, or, if shortened boomers, is a term used to describe folks who were born between 1946 and 1964. All together, boomers make up approximately 26 percent of the population and the reason why the generation was named this way was because of the spiking birth rate that began to happen right after WWII. People were forced to put an indefinite pause on their lives and risk everything instead, so it's understandable that the majority wanted to start their new chapter and create their own families as soon as the global conflict was finally out of the picture.
True, but we can't, and since most in our country our age live pay check to pay check it is nearly impossible to save money and build wealth as well.
Load More Replies...If anyone makes this argument about leaving, commend them for their stance on open immigration.
"So you agree? Countries should have open migration laws so people can immigrate to wherever they choose to?"
Load More Replies...That's also a crappy debate tactic called false dilemma logical fallacy.
" Rather than at least acknowledge that things are bad bc I've gone along with it for so long already, how about You just leave? "
Umm.. confusing Boomer for Racist. And if you think that's the same thing, I'm sad for you for the experiences you're missing.
Looking back at the "OK boomer" trend, a lot of youngsters don't appreciate the older generation's outlook on today's different societal matters. Now, of course, it's unacceptable to generalize a whole age group, which is why most people are aware that many older folks are actually very self-aware, tend to positively impact on the planet, and are generally eager to educate themselves if they're willing to understand that, these days, society's views are completely contrasting to those they are so used to.
I'm Gen X and the last time i read a newspaper is 20 years ago. Tv too, why should i watch news? We have Internet now. :D
The first rule of Gen X is don't talk about Gen X. We don't exist, and we like it that way.
Load More Replies...And those of us in the older millennial pile tend not to watch opinionated news. That’s fox, cnn, and all the rest of them.
You have them confused with Republicans... Not all boomers are idiots..
CNN has a website so it's' still totally possible to get news from them
Yes and that explains why non-boomers are the most ill-informed out there getting their "info" from all those reputable Instagram and YouTube posters
I'm a Boomer, barely, and I used to get CNN via the Web. I dropped them when they dropped their comment section. I get newspapers online starting in 1998. Less newsprint to recycle, ya know?
I'm gen x I don't think I've ever watched the news in my life. Maybe local at some point. Other than that associated press, Al Jazeera and bbc world news is easily accessible. Can't stand the tabloids like fox cnn daily mail it's awful. The boomers that think you watch cnn only watch fox and newsmax. That's why cnn has such poor viewership people w sense know better that to watch that or fox.
FAUX NEWS is legally entertainment, not news. The internet is a miasma of misinformation. Reading a major city newspaper without the internet hype version helps with perspective.
Load More Replies...And menopause... combine the two... oh girl!! It's getting hot in here
Boomers are having menopause? Isn't it a bit late for that?
Load More Replies...LOL. And then they say it's all made up! I can't believe some of these conversations I have! And they tie it to being conservative and right to life and I'm like ??? What does that have to do with science??? So baffling.
Silent Spring, the book that warned of climate change and use of pesticides was written in 1962. Diet for a Small Planet which explained why vegetarianism is key to planets survival was written and widely read in the 70s. Earth Day was first celebrated in 1972. The US Environmental Protection Act came in same decade. There are always people who will deny things when it makes them uncomfortable, but this is in all generations.
"Yep, something going on. Total mystery. Maybe it's Jewish space lasers."
Though, if we think about it – conflict between generations is not a new phenomenon. Despite the fact that the gaps between all those different age groups are not immensely huge, our society views change with the speed of light. For the last 60 or so years, our world has undergone such a colossal switch; we've been through wars, economical issues, our scientists made literally humongous progress in medicine, people came up with unimaginable technology and most importantly – folks became more accepting. Somehow, it's possible to comprehend that older generation might have a problem with catching up with today's morality; however, the blatant ignorance of some could never be excused.
1968 (Me) UCLA = $300 per year. Min. wage $1.60. 188 hours of work covered 1 year at UCLA. 2012 (Son) UCLA = $14,460 per year Min. wage $7.25 1,994 hours of work to cover 1 year at UCLA I'd work part time over the summer vacation and have plenty for college. If I worked fulltime for the summer, I'd have a LOT left over. https://www.dailycal.org/2014/12/22/history-uc-tuition-since-1868/
I worked full-time and went to college full time and had a mental breakdown and attempted suicide. Still never finished my degree because I was hospitalized for half a semester and owed the college money, and still do. Fu¢k all the way off with the "just work harder" stance. I'm a millennial btw. So I'm in my 30s.
And there's always the financial aid dilemma. As income goes up, aid goes down. If I worked much more than part time in college it started to affect my grants. Work more *and* leave free money on the table? No thanks.
Im 27, went to tech school for a degree that had a lot of demand and that I could tolerate/enjoy. I worked hard while going to school. Took a year off from school when i got married to do some more manual labor, me and my wife lived in a mobile home our first year of marriage, while she worked a minimum wage job and went I went back to school and worked manual labor. Graduated debt free. I never felt like I could afford or it was worth getting a 4 year degree. And I have never felt held back by that. I make more now than most 4 year degrees would give me the opportunity to make. There are millions of well paying jobs available for those with the right tech school degree or in the trades.
Mind if I ask what degree you went for in tech school? I've been considering some kind of tech school, but not sure what my best options would be.
Load More Replies...My college tuition was $2k a semester. I made $3.65/hr before taxes at my part time job. My first job out of college was $13k, about average. If not for my academic scholarship, I couldn't have gone to college.
Not everyone lives in the USA and has the scam system. We don’t have college. Grade K-12 then University. When some of my classmates went on exchange to the USA they found your so called higher education in college the equivalent of 8th grade in Australia. In the reverse the Americans would cry they saw what level first year Uni was at. Oh and the govt spots us our education higher wise. Even masters and PHD.
Ha, free education for everyone. Tech school, University, certificate , all cool. When you get a better job you can pay more taxes. Everyone should have the opportunity to pay tax.
And yet you NON-Boomers just keep voting the same people in again and again
For those who are graduating high school. Follow every link that says scholarship. Even the small 500 dollar scholarships are good. My mother was an average student but got the most scholarships because she applied to everything
Well most of the scholarships are gender and race locked now so this strategy only works for certain demographic groups... For example the STEM field is predominately male dominated and to compensate for this the schools give most of their scholarships in these fields exclusively to women. I know this because this was the exact strategy I attempted with near perfect ACT scores in math and physics and 3.9 highest honors gpa. For fun I also looked at scholarships in female dominated fields since I quickly realized I would not be able to study my academic passions -- even in these fields there were basically no scholarships for me -- this definitely put the value of my life into perspective.

GenX here. My Mother in law said the same yesterday. I’m a paramedic and we do work hard. I said P**s off Boomer and get the hell out of my house
Boomers literally refused to work until they got what they wanted- seriously they loved stakes. But the second someone quits a job because they're expected to work hours without pay and put up with abuse in the workplace and we're lazy...
What the hay does smoking inside have to do with work ethics? It's pretty obvious if you're on your cell phone, you aren't working.
Nowadays, the majority of younger individuals are very inspired to better the planet. People come up with many movements to better the lives of those who are underprivileged or in need, resulting in this generation striving to be more mindful of various problems that hinder people's overall peace. Still, a concerning amount of folks stay in denial of all the things that are wrong with our society, which is why it's important to educate those who are a little lost. Though, it's not always possible to change someone's opinion – so things like "OK boomer" might occasionally surface as a sort of opposition to those who are not willing to learn.
OMG for F's sake everyone!!! Yes everyone of us had had it hard. In our own screwed up generational way. Every generation got screwed by the one before it and got made fun of by the ones coming after it. We ALL had to walk to school. uphill. both ways. with crappy shoes okay. Everybody sucks. I'm still trying ok. Jesus people, try to suck a little less today than you did yesterday. We are all in this thing together and we all have something to bring to the table. Have a good night everyone
I'm a "geriatric millennial", I always felt more like a gen Xer who knew computers.
Boomers are those born in the baby boom at the end of 2nd world war. Millennials came of age in the new melenium. So not many boomers raised millennials. Being their grandparents is much more common.
Load More Replies...Most millennials are in their 30s now with kids mortgages ect and gleefully getting in their allocation of riffing the Zoomers. It’s a right of passage. Enjoy it
I don't think anyone should be put down no matter what generation they are from. However I don't think millennials can quite call themselves old. If you actually feel that way just imagine how your going to feel at 60.
According to research by Duke University Millennial life expectancy is declining, so who knows if some of us will even make it there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Load More Replies......and millennials don't s**t on boomers? Looks like a veritable shitfest to me..
I wish I could be around when you guys are 70 and trying to keep up with technology that changes as the speed of light. You'll see then. But just keep laughing at the older generations. It's cute.
It's a joke. I help my twenty year olds with their tech sometimes and they help me if I need it as well. Older generations poke fun at the young just as much, if we take it in stride we can all have a giggle instead of being upset.
Load More Replies...I love when millenials connect to wifi and do windows updates and then think they're technically proficient.
Boomers invented WiFi and Windows. Excel too. You spelled "thank you" wrong.
Yeah, because we know the one thing the internet has done is connected everyone to good, reliable sources of information. /s
Load More Replies...Every office has an Excel wizard; she's 56, loves her pets, and works in accounting.
Millennials know what spreadsheets are? Was this a recent additional to Tik-Tok or Snapchat??
More like software that makes you have a password that's 15 or more characters using every type of character and have to change it every 2 weeks without repeating anything.
Use a phrase rather than a word... Such as Ilovefootball! Or Ilikecheeseandwine! Much easier to remember.
Load More Replies...Sometimes it is the computers fault. I have entered valid passwords that I have written down and the computer doesn't recognize it because too much time elapsed since the last time I accessed a site. Live long enough and you'll find all about resetting passwords every time you want to communicate.
People my generation can't remember anything. Many people I know in their 30s have entire little booklets of passwords for all their accounts... And then they lose that book.
When I signed up with a cable and phone co 30 years ago and there was a problem we didn't get treated like criminals when we called for service if the address matched. Now it's an interrogation like we're trying to defraud them if we don't keep meticulous records of ID's passcodes, secret questions etc. I liked it when a human answered the phone, now I have to chat with someone who won't help me because even though I paid the bill for 30 years they only recognize my husband as authorized. It's demeaning to demand customers jump through hoops to get help. Now, today, my kennel wants me to use a computer to make reservation, screw that.
In their defense I cannot remember my stupid passwords. All these sights make me change them. Then I try to change them and they're like "you can't use a previous password!" I just want to get on your site. I have a password keeper. But it doesn't solve everything.
IT professional...not just boomers...Gen X and frail mellienals too...imagine that
While the generational conflict is an issue that will most likely follow folks that come after us, and the folks that come after them – there's nothing anyone can do that would completely stop or at least interfere, to then magically make all the people of the world stand together and have a universally positive mindset. While we can use our voices and various resources to improve our community, there'll be still someone who will be actively standing up for something that is considered to be morally wrong.
not aware of this being a specifically boomer thing. in my experience it's younger people who do this
No, younger people tend to do it to indicate a suspicious term. They don't use it for emphasis, which is what the OP said.
Load More Replies...that makes me wonder how our modern language will be viewed in the next few generations. the whole "boomer" ellipsis thing where some people of a certain age or people who learned how to communicate with writing from someone of that age use ellipses to connect sentences (eg "i went to the supermarket...saw brenda there...she says hi...her kids are doing well..." etc) because of a writing standard from decades beforehand. it was a connection (like em dashes) that was fairly standard practice. it makes me wonder how asterisks for emphasis and scare quotes and Significant Capitalization will be viewed in the coming decades.
It's decorative scare quotes! 'Why are there scales on my "chicken"?'
oh god, look at the height of that "man"
Load More Replies...My grandparents used to do this! “Happy birthday”, made it sound so sarcastic!
Pretty sure the companies didn't want to pay for anything either. Something about a profit margin.
That is more true then people not wanting to pay for it. If a company finds it can get by with smaller amounts of pay to employees the money going to management and the board is far more important than service.
Load More Replies......sooo, only boomers complain? Only boomers want deals? Really???
Their (and my generation) fixed broken things. Now its all buy, buy, buy.
Absolutely but also there is social/advertising pressure that everything is supposed to be and or look new. Alsio we sold our soul to China, so it's 'cheaprr' to buy new (crap that broke) than repair; the 'catch' is debt.

Uhm! Boomers had Generation X babies. Gen X had Gen Y or Millennials. Get it together man! 😂
They can have millenials as well. My parents are boomers, I'm a millennial.
Load More Replies...So glad you're not my kid, SC rap L! Believe it or not, many elders have this thing called wisdom, that you will realize about five years after you lose them.
It's important not to stand still and progress for the sake of those who will come after us – however, no one could physically predict what's going to happen in a few weeks' time, let alone in 50 years. The harsh reality is that maybe humans will never be able to bond as much as some would've liked to, but it doesn't mean that we should stop trying.
Wow, a lot of agism here! Nobody has to be tech savvy if they don't want to be, it's their choice. My beloved Grandma who died in 1988 never used a computer or a cell phone, was her life any less valuable. My Mom who died in 2018 was on the computer and used the smartphone, went on Facebook, was she of more value or was her life better because of it? It was nice she could keep in contact with people and use programs on the computer, but being tech savvy is not a requirement to matter. Things are changing at an abnormal pace now, and kids grow up addicted to their screens. It's gone too far in a negative direction
I think you might have missed the point here. Asking to be removed doesn't do anything, you have to un-like it.

also not all phones are a thousand dollars? getting brand new phones every single generation isn't everyone's first choice. some people do, and that's valid, so long as you're not starving your kids to do it or something like that. but it's easy to find cheaper phones a few generations behind, or buy used/refurbished, or do trades that lower the price, or avoid iphones entirely, etc. it's almost like these are massive generalizations that are completely ignorant of the actual situation.

Load More Replies...I kind of feel like $1000 is a bit much for something you can easily drop in the toilet or break. Actually I gotta agree with the Boomers generally on this one. Now if we're talking phone + phone plane for a year then the number makes more sense. But honestly I don't know why anyone pays for cable anymore. For the same price or less you can watch whatever you want with almost no commercials and get local stations.
It all depends. I live on my phone...bills, info, entertainment...I do not upgrade every year/ new model. But this is my 'forever' phone. It was worth the price as I got 1k off with trade-in. I also shopped around and got insurance for two years for $155. As with everything else, it all depends on what it's worth to someone and why.
Load More Replies...Non boomer but full agree it's insane I have a 200 phone and I can't imagine needing it to do anything it doesn't do
My husband just bought a Galaxy S10 for $200. Phones are much cheaper if you're behind by a couple of years. Phones don't get better so quickly that the difference between years is super noticeable, but their prices sure do drop like a rock.
Cause I paid 300 for the phone I've run for 2 years and 132 a year for the cable I wanna watch.... work smarter not harder
Well there's somebody who's never heard of paying for a service. You are renting that content and the device through which it is streamed.
I don't pay for cable, I also don't pay $1500 for a new phone. I refuse to go into debt for a phone that will not out last the debt. I paid $189 for my phone. It works just fine.
"And make it HOT hot. I want to see you getting 3rd degree burns on your hands holding the cup. C'mon now. Toughen up."

And they tell their co-workers "Who is George Jefferson"
Load More Replies...I drink tea. So no worries, I'll never order coffee in a way that annoys you.
Boomers don't whine about not getting a living wage and then spend $8 on coffee plavored sugar water.
I feel like the point is that this isn't about drinking black coffee but about yelling about no frilly stuff. Take your coffee how you like it and let other people take it how they like it... and if you aren't somewhere with drip coffee then expect people to expect you to ask if you want stuff or room for stuff because that's most of the actual job.
And yet is applies to boomers more often than any other generation
Load More Replies...They need everyone to know how badass they are for drinking black coffee :/
Hell, I'm Starbucks favorite customer..."black coffee, dark roast, 2 ices please . Thank you
Yeah, no one cares. Except maybe the person who wrote it, or at least shared it, who is probably their actual friend or relative... Perhaps you are claiming when you share something on the internet, you never check to see how many people/ or who specifically liked/shared it? Yes, it's an "old fashioned" way of communicating, but they are just trying to let the OP know they were paying attention and care, and willing to stand by you publicly.
Not a boomer but I've done it. It's kind of a nice way to say "about time you said something that made sense".
Opening shift in retail it is very common. Their cars were in the parking lot before I even arrived for my shift. Some would stand at the door for 15-20 minutes and they were regulars even so knew we always opened at 9am on the dot. Still they would wait impatiently as if one day we would open early for them special.
Load More Replies...Boomers weren't labeled as the "Me" Generation for grins. You kinda have to expect this stuff, why is everyone so shocked?
Before online, those of us pre 2k liked to stroll the street & browse. Take in fresh air & chat with strangers. Or maybe they are looking for the hours when it's open, you know to come back & spend money.
ok? how is this passive aggressive? idk maybe its my autism, but me n my friends use K , all the time.
These sorts of electronic communication social rules are very limited to young groups in certain geographic areas or certain specific parts of social media platforms. They are not broadly applicable even with younger people. However they are often expressed as if they're universal if that makes sense.
Load More Replies...I know, right? Like who's got time for that? Man, it reminds me of when I was growing up in a small farm town. We didn't have much, but we appreciated what we had. Everyone didn't agree with each other on everything, but we all got along and let each other be, you know what I mean? Billy, Jim and I used to ride out bikes every which way. On the hit summer days you'd find us down at the creek where someone had tied a rope to an old tree branch to swing into the water. Other days we'd be exploring the woods, finding new hiding spots or building forts. One day Billy climbed to the top of a really high line tree, so high the branches couldn't support his weight and he had to cling to the top of the trunk because he was afraid he'd fall if he tried to get back down to the sturdier branches. Jim stayed with him and I rode like the wind to find Billy's pa who had an old time fire truck with the extendable ladder. Man, we still joke about those days sometimes. Anyway, I agree, freaking boomers
I reply on bp with my life story all the time, but as a 30 year old my anxiety makes me reread it til I no longer find it relevant and then I delete 90% of what I wanted to say.
Because sus types don't TMI their whole life to the entire world. Thirsty much?
Weddings are expensive and I've seen elderly people working. Not great jobs they aren't qualified but jobs nonetheless. Why do you think boomers just stop working. Rather shortsighted don't you think.
I believe the point is trying to use comments as a place to have a conversation. I could be wrong. But I see a lot of comments on the actual post then switching to new topics.
Back to Linda .....she’s still in arguments with directv to be bothered with this . She’ll post an update to Facebook soon
Is it how they use them or that they use them in general? Because every gen I know uses them except when Gen Z wants to gatekeep cool on social media spaces. But my gen z nieces text me emojis too.
it's so weird bc there's a Definite Language Gap between pre- and post-internet generations. they don't get the symbolic uses and meanings and contexts of specific emojis, in the same way that a modern student may think juliet was asking where romeo was during the balcony scene.
As if We could actually see those those itsy bitsy stupid round things....or know what they mean... Guess that makes me a smarter Boomer....don't use them.
I love when boomers read these and make comments trying to figure out why they were doing it wrong
Some language just sticks. I still "dial" a number and "hang up" a call to end it but use a smartphone. I'm an older millennial.

Are you visually recording me? Are you videoing me?. What do you feel is the correct term? If you talk to someone old enough they might even use the horribly offensive, are you filming me? /s
I'm 40 and sometimes, although not every time, I still say this. I also still call this # a pound or pound sign. I am an elderly millennial

That's why it's even funnier that they don't understand it.
Load More Replies...I really don't like targeted advertising. If I need something I'll know where to look for it. I don't need you imagining/creating needs for me, thank you very much.
Who would downvote this? Advertising is the worst and it follows us everywhere we go.
Load More Replies...Once again a whole section of comments that deliberately missed the point. The original wasn't saying people should like targeted advertising, but if you don't want your privacy invaded be proactive and get an ad blocker or a browser with better security and privacy or a vpn or really anything that actually addresses the problem other than just being angry it's not 1990. At least you can, mostly, block targeted ads, unlike untargeted ads. Complaining to someone who has told you how to fix the problem several times, and engaging in activities that actively make the problem worse, again despite lots of opportunities to do otherwise, will absolutely make the person you complain to justifiably irritated. Also, targeted ads are 15 years old now, please don't act as if it's some new scheme the internet just pushed on you, and don't act like the rest of us like targeted ads just because we aren't actively complaining.
I love it when millennials can’t spell “targeted” because they rely on autocorrect.
Omg I know some that legit destroyed their phones because they thought the ads were real people talking to them.
I love when Millennials have no clue that reading every keystroke, and even listening on chats, is how targeting marketing works.
Okay, here's my confession. I'm a millennial and I have never used a QR code because I don't care enough to learn how.
It's just an app on your phone. SO many restaurants now use it in lieu of a physical menu.
Load More Replies...Genius. In my country the QR code has really spread during the pandemic (pun intended), used everywhere from the vaccination certificate to restaurant menus. This year they were even implemented on deposit slips, which saves you from having to manually enter all the numbers and addresses.
I nearly sent back my new contactless thermometer because the set up instructions were only accessible with a QR code. It said scan it with your phone. So I did. I opened the camera and nothing happened. Turned out I had the batteries in wrong and I was able to get it working just by watching a youtube tutorial.
How to use a QR: 1) get a QR-scanning app. 2) Scan the QR code in the same way you might use the camera. Done.
I don't like QR codes. Life is already challenging enough. I don't use them. I got along just fine without QR codes. What is this thing? For sure , they didn't invent it for my benefit.
Whut? Has that happened? For real? Is the iron still there? What about the thimble?
The thimble, wheelbarrow and boot have been retired. They have been replaced by a penguin, t-rex, and rubber duck. I'd have skipped the t-rex and kept the wheelbarrow.

It was also supposed to teach about idea of the single tax (the only tax should be on land value and the landowner should be the only one to pay taxes). It was meant to be sold to the gentrified youth (only ones who could afford to buy a game) and have them hate every part of the game and discover monopolies are a bad thing that should be stopped. Losing half of the value of your property to the bank when you take a mortgage that someone else can then buy. Cramming more people into smaller areas and charging every one of them more than if they lived on the property alone. If you're poor you pay income tax but if you're rich, you can just pay $200 instead of the same share as everyone else.
There is an amusing show on Prime called "Comrade Detective". It is a spoof of "buddy cop" movies and TV shows from the 80's, but instead of communism being the spooky evil like in American shows, it was set in Communist Romania, and those scary "capitalists" where the bad guys. The cops came across a Monopoly game that was smuggled into the country. “You’re telling me that the purpose of this game is to drive your fellow citizens into poverty so that you may get rich?” - "yes, they use it to brain-wash young children into loving capitalism"... or something close to that.
Load More Replies...Monopoly originally was designed with capitalist and anti-capitalist rules and was used as a tool in economics class. It wasn't meant to fun. Later the game was sold to a company and became the monopoly of today. I think it's funny that everyone complains about monopolies until they mention the game.
Wait a minute. When did this happen ? If true tell me where to buy it !!!!!
I'll be honest, everytime I'm trying to rake leaves there's always a hour where it gets windy. It never fails.
It works well though. If you're using the wind to carry your leaves over your neighbors fence
Load More Replies...Trying to clean despite the weather. How long are you going to wait until you clean.
Slight tangent but I gotta give a shout out to the boomer guy who always ran the entire block with the snowblower after snowfall in my parents old neighborhood. He was a saint. I think in the US we really need to rethink wasting large amounts of water on grass lawns but there are some beautifully maintained lawns owned by boomers around my neighborhood. I know a guy who goes out and sweeps up individual leaves with a broom.
I'm not a boomer but I am old enough to have mowed lawns as a kid and I loved windy days and the leaf blower. Blowing leaves into the wind and watching them dance is hypnotic. I also lived in a simpler time where "blowing" was a game where you tried to blow a piece of paper over an adversaries side of a table so air propelled games were loved. As an adult, I discovered the only function of a leaf blower is to pass the buck. You rarely see anyone clean up after they are done using it because the leaves are now Sion's problem 3 houses down.
Leaf blowers are both kinda cool and often a public menace.
Load More Replies...Don't windy days just make the leaf blowers even more efficient at making the leaves other people's problem?
I love people who use leaf blowers, period. Perfect metaphor for the boomer philosophy. Blow everything you don't want into someone else's yard. It doesn't matter what happens next. They're exercising their freedom to get the leaves from their own tree off of their property.
Sending people to Facebook jail is a multigenerational hobby not specific to one
Yeah, but a lot of the boomers are put there for discriminatory/derogatory/false information spreading. And like good cult members take pride in tgeir perceived "martyrdom"
Load More Replies...I've never been to Facebook jail, then again I try to only post facts, and link my sources.. So if you don't believe my facts, do some research and maybe opine less.
Not just Boomers go to FB jail. Im a Millenial and a FB jailbird. Dark memes get a little too dark for these kids.
Totally true, see it every day. Especially when people are posting anti-VAX nonsense. Usually see it on the Herman Cain award page though lol.
Load More Replies...GenX and Millennials do the same when sharing a post, except they write “This.”
In their defense I've seen a good number mention they just can't see that well anymore. It's far easier to distinguish letters in all caps and It gives them the opportunity to proof read what they wrote. As a millennial with pretty s**t vision eoc, hb, and ijlt can all be very hard to tell apart
LOL I saw a job ad in all caps. I got the vibe the employer is either hostile or exasperated they can't find someone to fill the position.
Muscle memory. I do this on my phone because it automatically adds the full stop and I can type faster and more efficiently.
In their defense, two spaces after a period was taught universally in all my schooling through the end of high school (2006).
Mine too! I graduated the same year as you 2006. I still do it for "official" documents
Load More Replies...I love how something as simple as a double space irritates some people.
Ntgl, non boomer knowing how typewriters work is pretty impressive.
I always do two spaces after a period. It's they way I learned how to type...
Only after a period or question or exclamation mark. Typing class in H. S. Now it's muscle memory forever.
Peter Griffin is the main character of Family Guy, so some people probably think that is his name instead of that of the show.
Load More Replies...Literally who he is... It's in the theme song and everything. The problem is with people who don't refer to him in that manner.
Well why not? He is the family guy. He's a man who positively can do all the things that make us laugh and cry. If you don't think that's friggin sweet, I don't know what to tell you.
Its an excuse for bad behavior saying one should be forgiven for all excesses because we only have one chance to enjoy ourselves. Many of the bad things in this world, from climate change deniers to anti-vaxxers, boil down to I deserve to be happy even if it means others are hurt because we only have one chance at happiness.
Millennial say that not boomers. Go watch Dead Poet's Society for some Carpe Diem
Elder millennial, came here to say this. YOLO was the creation of millennials and still seems to be dominated by millennials, when I see it at all, though I will say it's well past the sell-by date no matter who uses it.
Load More Replies...Spoken like a young person who thinks they have all the time in the world.
Learn your generations. Millennials started that crap. Boomers were eloquent enough to say Carpe Diem.
Took me a little too long to establish you weren't commenting in ASL...
Load More Replies...I would say 🤬 but would probably piss you off so let me just say 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
It's often either a boomer or a young kid who things it helps their point across. Frankly, I often give less respect to someone using that emoji.
I don't want to wait 45 minutes. I'm hungry now. Not a boomer.
Load More Replies...To be fair, I do this too unless my hunger is greater than my anxiety.
I've never liked a crowd. What gets me to leave is when I'm told the wait for a table is 45 minutes.
I mean - it comes from the latin term "libra pondo" which means "weight in pounds." It was abbreviated to lb (with a cross through the l and b) in the 14th century. The lb typeface was developed by printers in the 17th century. Handwriting that symbol eventually evolved into what you know today but the symbol was still called "pound." It wasn't until Internet Relay Chat (Yay 90s!) that anyone ever used the term hashtag, and that was mostly just used by the software engineers. The use of the octothorpe in Twitter came about in 2007 when a Gen Xer named Chris Messina suggested it to Twitter - and he called it a pound sign even then. Just saying, 800 years of it being called pound vs 25 years of anyone even knowing the term hashtag and really only in common use for the last 10-15 years.
Really, it's only a hashtag if you're actually tagging something. The symbol might be referred to as a hash mark, but calling it a hashtag is redundant. Otherwise, see really good explanation above.
Load More Replies...Automated phone systems still use the term pound sign so it's still relevant until they change that to "enter your account number followed by the hashtag".
The name changes in context, geography, and use so there's no 1 correct answer for its name. Its like arguing over pop vs soda vs etc. For instance, the symbol on a phone is called an octothorpe - named assigned by Bell Telephone (company of the guy who invented it) but many people grew up calling it the "pound" key because their ancestors first saw it at a meat shop where it was used to measure weights of meat. The Unicode standard which tries to make things universal says it is "number" and can be translated as "number" into other languages to avoid confusion. Its haghtag on twitter, called "hex" in Singapore and Malaysia, "sharp" when talking about music, and the "square" key by the International Telephone Union.
I'm a millennial and it still took me a loooong time before I figured out what the heck hashtag was. Thought it was some trend slang made up by the teens. I called it the number sign and known it as the pound sign, as that's how automated menus called it.
That's what that symbol was until like 15 years ago. In handwritten personal recipe books, "4# tomatoes" never meant "four hashtags of tomatoes"... It's 4 pounds. If you had to write the recipe by hand while watching/listening to someone making it, you'd use a symbol for pounds too
In Swiss German we used to call the hashtag “Gartehag” which translates as garden fence. And when e-mail became popular, we used to call this @ “Affenschwanz-A”, which means monkey-tail-a. Do yall remember cute and obsolete names in your languages?
Some aren't idiots that understand there are more than one word for something. Your 2 seconds of life doesn't constitute my 40+ years of seeing a f*****g emblem and suddenly changing the name because of an app people use less and less.
I'm confused. "From a friend" is not how the internet works at all. 90% of the memes I share come from total strangers. (Or am I missing more context again?)
Yeah a lot of these don't make sense imo. And before anyone starts, I'm a millenial.
Load More Replies...Sorry you don't know you can read anyone's meme. From a friend just tells the person receiving the meme is someone they know not Google sending ones you might like.
we invented the internet, little boy. But, please, do tell how the internet works. This ought to be good...
I might see this as a valid criticism if they're using the term incorrectly but this post doesn't specify.
Are they supposed to know the location and number of the server with their photos??
I'm a boomer and even when it was first advertised as 'the cloud' it sounded stupid to me. No, your files aren't floating around in the ether. They're on server(s) that are accessible by any number of individuals and agencies whether you like it or not.
That was the term the developers and marketers used. You are not accepting a term that was decided on by its advocates.
Load More Replies...In what context are you referring to? Many things are stored in a cloud online.
I love it when non-boomers are socially inept and don't think a basic level of courtesy is a good idea.
That's rude to just hang up on someone without at least allowing each other to say bye. I encounter this behaviour all the time, especially from receptionists who I would expect to have better phone mannerisms. But that goes for anyone. Politeness goes a long way and it doesn't take much effort or time.
I'm a receptionist and people can be so rude about this. They hang up when I am in the middle of, "Have a great day". Or they answer my, "Have a great day" with a brash, "I will!" Then hang up. I work at a veterinary hospital and our patients are far less rude then our clients/their parents sometimes. I'd much rather get barked or meowed at lol.
Load More Replies...Apparently no one taught you manners. The boomer is trying to teach you. Most of the world expects manners. You might want to pay attention when someone is trying to help you.
No one has ever once told me "this is where you're supposed to say thank you" in any context other than me insisting they really didn't have to do something that was too nice. That line is only ever used as another way of saying "I'm doing this nice thing so just say thanks and let me do this nice thing".
Its also used when someone repeatedly has to get bailed out/helped out of problems (usually if their own making) but never bothers to thank anyone who helps them.
Load More Replies...And this is why society is going to crumble by the time you are an ACTUAL adult. Enjoy thinking it's cool to be cruel and ungrateful, because I promise you, you will regret it...
Not a boomer. Just a decent human. This is so much of what's wrong with the younger gens. Because expecting gratitude, or manners, or a modicum of respect, is something to eye roll and ridicule? Entitled and rude little s:.:heads like this cause me to lose more faith in humanity. Every. Single. Day.
Thank you ? Especially if it's anything tech related.
Load More Replies...Go ahead and tune out. Someone else will have your job soon. Boomers aren't stupid, just grew up in a different time, and listened/learned.
That's because older people could never have a suggestion that might actually be useful. /s
Sorry, that's just ageism. You don't think someone with more experience than you might be able to teach you something?
Learning is a lifelong endeavor. Too bad you think there is nothing of value in experience. You be the new old codger in 2 years.
Dementia is a horrible, A neurocognitive disorder. Please don't use it in this fashion.
Agree. I don't even know what this person is trying to say.
Load More Replies...I watched my grandmother die from dementia and Alzheimer's, maybe you should learn about dementia instead of using it carelessly.
Senile dementia is scary and not a joke my grandfather had it. Really not a joke.
a lot of these are really dumb and have little to do with actual boomer behaviour. Why make up weird things when there are so many legitimate examples, like the tuition one, or people still thinking that smart phones are a luxury? On the subject of phones, though, i love it when boomers are completely incapable of ignoring a ringing phone, no matter what else is going on. "God dammit! i'm eating supper here! Hello?"
Lmao this is my Boomer mom too. Absolutely mortifies me when she answers the phone when we're eating at a restaurant. She also complains when people call or text late even though we've told her 80 times she can just put the phone on silent.
Load More Replies...I understand that it can be difficult to relate to older people but recently this whole boomer-bashing movement is extremely toxic. When has it ever been okay to hate a group of people because of something out of their control (in this case, age.)
I agree, this is becoming ridiculous. I'm a Gen Xer, I'm between the two generations and I don't see why this has to happen. Both parties need to shut up.

Ugh some of these were just garbage. Really giving younger gens a bad name. Do better BP contributors.
Damn I must be old cause most of this seems like some petty s**t to be bothered by your literally proving them right that words upset you cloud ,pound and yolo and some are just arrogant children that will 1 day be the out of touch old person they hate so much
Some of these aren't all that fair because they're universal. My boomer parents aren't too bad on tech but, weirdly, my nan was amazing at it. People are a strange bunch that's for sure.
A lot of these post were stupid. And what's the deal with generational discrimination? I'm 36 and the majority of these posts were entitled whining. And I can imagine that's not the majority of how younger people feel.
What always cracks me up is that the internet and smartphone wouldn't even exist without the boomers - they freaking made those. Also cracks me up when someone the nks they are tech savvy because they know how to us Instagram - app UIs are painstakingly designed to be easy for the lowest common denom.
