Aunt Makes Homophobic Comment To Her Niece, Regrets It Immediately
566Kviews
When Twitter user Charlie Marie was insulted by her aunt’s homophobic comment, she shut her down quickly.
It all started when Charlie, an 18-year-old bisexual teen from the U.K. got in a fight with her aunt and was called a f*ggot. A while later, her aunt thought she would smooth things over by apologizing but she just made it worse. “I did not mean faggot in a bad way, I just mean you gay people have a lot of drama,” her aunt wrote. She then finished her apology by saying that Charlie shouldn’t come to an upcoming birthday if she was going to “ruin the day”. That’s when Charlie decided enough was enough, so she responded in a striking way. “Don’t worry about it!” she wrote. “I know what you’re like after a few bottles of wine. I can’t make Indie’s birthday I’m afraid, I have a huge lesbian orgy that day and me and the other faggots have been planning it for months.” But that’s not all! Charlie also added some snappy comments about her aunt, and shared the whole conversation on Twitter, which has gone viral since. Keep on scrolling to check it out.

Her family was not impressed
Luckily, the Internet was on her side
Charlie later called her dad to explain the situation
Luckily, he was as supportive as other commenters on the internet

The fact that she thinks "f*aggot" is not a sensitive word, is why she still has a long way to go in understanding gay and bi-sexual persons. Especially when said aunt thinks that it's all "made-up". But the good part is: Now Charlie knows who the rotten apple of the family is.
"I tried to understand this bi shit you claim to be " ... Obviously she didn't ... Or else she wouldn't have said what she had !
And the fact that her family instead of rebuce her aunt after all this nasty things that says to her, scold Charlie it's TERRIBLE!
Yeah. Her mother.
The whole family uses the F word and then give her shit for telling her aunt to go F herself. Ohhh man I hate hypocrits.
Nah man I'm good, thanks.
Right back at ya, Tine Dynamine :D. Yes, I know that the message was not directed at me, but there's no need to be rude to others just because you're hiding behind a computer.
I think he was trying to make a joke tbh xD
At least learn how to spell hypocrite....
some english white trash going on here. I know exactly the type...
If they were, it didn't sound like it. If that's the case, then I take my words back
(Thanks for the backup though, I do appreciate it :D)
Well I'm not sure if joke is the right word, but I figured he was trying to be 'funny' like 'well if you're so ok with saying that then let me tell you the same because if you respond badly you're a hypocrite too' sort of thing. :D

Cool. Fuck off then. :D
"How dare you speak to my mum like that!" How dare your mum call her niece a f*ggot.
I will never understand why do people care so much about other's people dating preferences and insult them, if something is "wrong" according to their standards. Live and let live... After all we all just want to be happy!
It distracts them from the failings of their own lives...
I wonder what Charlie's Aunt would do if she needed open heart surgery and the only doctor available was of the LBT community?
Because they are so unhappy with their lives (In this case the aunt's failing marriage) that the only way the aunt will feel better is by making horrific comments like that. So if the family is pissed, they should be pissed at the aunt... because in my cuban family the proverbial sh*t would've hit the fan big time.
Why does every private situation have to be open these days?
The more people that learn that it is not acceptable to be homophobic/racist/sexist etc. the better
I get your point to an extent BUT I'm sure there are plenty of teens or even adult going through things like this. It is just a bit of support for people that think their crappy family members are one of a kind. Out of the billions of people in the world, I highly doubt every private situation like this has been publicised :P
Because when these things happened in private, people didn't knew that there were supportive people out there, and grew miserable, scarred for life and even hiding their real self in order to avoid these kind of horrible conflict. I'm happy she shared her horrible experience and had the support she deserved from kind strangers.
Because social media exists. Facebook and Twitter are public platforms, and when you do something out in public, it's going to get noticed. Meanwhile, good for Charlie for standing up against bigotry and intolerance. I'm going through a similar family feud right now, and I'm not backing down. Bigotry, intolerance, and hate cannot be tolerated, especially within one's own family.
Hang in there, peter bear. Social media creates networks of support, like you said. ♡
I came from a family where everything like this was very private. You know what they learned? That it was acceptable behavior because no one else knew. Thankfully for me - that has changed, but it did take some radical public-airing (and responses) to make the point. While I don't condone extreme levels of airing private dirty laundry in public forums ... some times that is the ONLY way people learn. Sad, but true.
People who aren't assholes or morons behave with dignity and sanity in public and in private. Don't display or engage in anything you don't want to be seen. Accountability is not a negative thing. Behave properly and you have nothing to be concerned about.
if you don't want to see this kind of thing, why did you read this kind of thing?
This isn't "every private situation", and this stuff exists to let LGBT youth that are being torn apart by their garbage families know they aren't alone and they have love and support. You all are calling this "airing dirty laundry" but what about all the people that feel like their own laundry is the only dirty laundry and they'll never be clean or acceptable? We don't fix that problem by shutting these things down because it makes some people uncomfy.
Because........Bored Panda !!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly. There comes a point where you just keep it to your immediate group.
It's a good thing that people have the choice to make it public (or not), considering the social networks and support networks we have in place, nowadays. And no, not "every private conversation" is public. But some do deserve to be public. Like this one.
Because assholes like these need to be put on blast.

The context seems like it was a private argument she boasted online to air the dirty laundry. Call me crazy, but I don't need support from strangers for a domestic argument. Things get heated with family, it's completely normal. We say things we don't mean . My thoughts.
Thanks so much random man. Your opinion has been noted and discarded.

attention whores, attention whores everywhere. I struggle with my life everyday and not even the closest ones know about every struggle. But these kids have to take every argument with their relatives to the internet like someone cares?
Thank you for proving that assholes are everywhere! Here's a cookie. Go play in the traffic.
She's not an attention whore, she's bringing awareness to the LGBT community. Yes, people don't have to put everything on their personal page, but, if the information they share is to bring awareness to something, and will help someone, then they should go right ahead and share it. There are a lot of gays, lesbians, bi and trans people out there, that are currently being left in the dark, due to their fear of people bullying them because of how they are.

This is a very "attention whore" post. Congrats you created a situation out of nothing to prove you're a self absorbed hypocrite in desperate need of attention. Well done.

If ur lame - u are going to b on the internet. I liked it.
Just to be clear, disrespectful people (like the aunt) DO NOT DESERVE ANY RESPECT, no matter their age. They've lost that privilege. And yes, even if this was a private conversation at first, it is an important issue and it's right to have made it public. People need to understand that is not acceptable behaviour.
Estefania Ibanez easy
Good for her for defending herself but what's up with her comment about straight sex being boring?
Twas a joke

after all she's of the same breed as her aunt
"How dare you speak to my mom like that" ???? But it's ok for her mom/ aunt to speak that way and put down other people? Hypocrites!
Exactly! You see, because she's gay they think that she deserves to speak to her like this! The aunt is not gay, so she deserves respect! Asshole people!
Who says you have to love your family? Blood don't mean shit when they treat you like a lower life form.
the worst part isn't the 'faggot', is the 'you can change you'll find a man' imho. ignorance climax
What a rotten family.
She insulted her. She *wanted* it to hurt, so she used the most hurtful word she could think of. Then she throws a hissy fit and acts like *she's* the victim? that aunt *can* go fuck herself. the cousin too.
"I didn't mean faggot in a bad way". Oh lord! There's so much more I wanna say but this stupid thing limits my letters.
RIGHT?!?! I mean, there are times when things could be misinterpreted and we get offended when someone didn't mean to offend. BUT faggot only meant as a derogatory term. There's no other way to mean it. I do not understand her justification and am very angry and am going to stop now
Actually its also an old term for a bundle of sticks for a fire or a type of large meatball, not just inappropriate and derogatory slurs.
When I said fuck you, it wasn't mean at all. When I told a complete stranger a goatfucker, why would that be suggestive and/or mean?
my aunt that adopted me is just like this about me ...... I never said anything about it..... and the rest of the family is just as bad, and now I'm married to a man with our fist kid
Congrats
And that's why you should wear a condom on your fist :D
my aunt that adopted me is like this.... I haven't made it a big thing...... I'm even married to my husband with my first kid and she still call my husband {trans f to m} a female even tho the surgery was a while ago and we were together for the last 7 years
;_; My condolences for the issues with your family. Stand strong with your hubby, I'd bet anything he's a greater man than any of their husbands ever were if they act like that to you two.
she calls you on your "f*ggotness", you call her on her happy marriage. Seems fair. Sting back where it hurts. I kinda agree it's not boredPanda worthy. But off course i can only form my opinion on that after having read it.
I taught stress-management for years. One of the biggest points I tried to make and was hardest to get across is that you DO NOT have to maintain relationships with family members you don't like. "But they're my family!" So what? They do nothing but stress you out. Ditch those people and anyone who sides with them against you should be ditched as well. Once they're out of your life your stress levels will drop tremendously as long as you don't sit around feeling guilty about it. They're not doing anything for you and you don't owe them anything.
Very true. Unfortunately I know a lot of people who have put up with being treated like trash by their family and keep accepting it purely because it's their family. It's not easy sometimes, but ultimately it can be a lot easier to just cut the negative people out of your life or at least limit the interaction.
Yep, I feel you there. My dads family aren't very nice people; and he copped nothing but crap from them since he was a kid. Unfortunately, he never really spoke of what he went through with them, and when the smallest thing angered him, he'd let it out on me (hit me, yelled at me, etc). Once he threw a perfume bottle at my head, my mum threatened to leave him and take me with her, if he didn't get help. He has since got the help he needed. He currently doesn't speak to his family because they had a fight over my grandmothers will in 2005; a very stupid fight that got physical. I should defend my dad, but all 4 of the siblings, and 1 cousin, all acted like kids in a school yard. I walked out of the house when they fought and got called weak.
I love that your dad supports you. The aunt who is living in the 17th century (when, BTW, gays existed) is clearly out of touch. You just keep being you. Signed, a 58 year old grandmother
Unfortunately, this will probably not make these people change but rather strengthen them in their crude opinion. The whole family seems to be seriously homophobic, and attitude does not seem to be their major strength. The swearing alone, topic notwithstanding, is frightening.
Her dad is on her side, at least. The rest are never going to change. They're a nasty bunch and that's not going to change over time. It's insane that her mother is so willing to attack her. Most of the mothers I know would have ripped a strip off that aunt and made sure they were never able to contact Charlie again.
Absolutely. If you do not get support from your parents for inner-family quarrels, from whom else should it come?
You are right, sadly. This is how the world works.
Sadly, so many people don't seem to understand that it's not a 'lifestyle'. You're just born the way you're born, and that's that. You can deny it all you want, but it won't change. The truly important thing is to simply accept who you are inside, and carry it with pride. Also important; Learning to accept others and stop judging them based on things they can't change. The tone of our skin. Our gender. Our sexuality. We're all still human. The only thing a person should be judged on is how they treat others.
Good for her (Charlie) but she could have been more mature in her responses, but now she sort of sank to her aunt's level. But her aunt sure didn't act like an adult either.
She's a teenager. What do you want from her?
No one needs to kill themselves. Perhaps they should educate themselves, and choose their words wisely. Like, for example, the aunty should treat her niece as she wishes to be treated, herself :)
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
She's also the victim among a minority so yes, she has the right to stand up for herself. Her aunt should kill herself.
But also: glad she doesn't tolerate homophobic shit. So many hide in the closet or just accept everything their mom, aunt, grandma or dad says just because they are family! Being relatives means nothing if you are mean to each other. I haven't talked to my aunt for years because she was a c*nt and still is. But I handled it like a cold bitch. Letting her know she's out of my life and I won't bother thinking about her.
There are not many things that make me more angry than homophobic assholes. I wouldn't accept that kind of shit from my aunt either, but Charlie clearly let her emotions take over and that just showed she let her aunt affect her feelings too much.
I feel so sorry for people like this who are stuck with total c*nts in their life. Ctrl-x Auntie!
I'm glad she has someone that really loves her in that family. Bc we know who will support and love her no matter what, and that is the people worthy of being family. The rest can F*ck off tbh
Do you do commissions? We need you to talk to my husband's aunt about our beloved trans kid. His aunt needs a similarly painful reality check. <3
Even though I think her aunt was being a jerk, I don't think the girl responded in the best way.
No, but she's a teenager. They have a tendency to do that.
I guess so. I can't say I haven't done stuff like that, and regretted it later.
Tell aunt Marie bored panda doesn't like her. Also, good for her dad!!
The aunt's "apology" was one of those fake passive aggressive actually an insult apologies. The aunt says that gay people love starting drama when she is 100% a drama queen with her fake insult apology. It's a clear drama starting kind of thing to write to someone. I really love the nieces reply, it is hilarious.
My aunt who I have never meet in my life called me a dike over FB messenger and I had to laugh it off. Until she started to try and makes insults towards my mother, and then I just went off on her. Her daughter actually text me to apologize for her mothers behavior and warned me that that is how she was. This was 8 years ago, and I have and never will meet her in person or have any other contact with her.
Even leaving aside the offensiveness of the word "faggot", the condescension demonstrated by her aunt is mindblowing and reveals deeper character flaws than prejudice against homosexuals. "you teenagers make stuff up all the time". Wow.
Charlotte Louise. You know you're in big trouble when your parents call you by your first and middle name.
Even worse when it's first, middle and last name :P
I think ur auntie suxxx! Tell her I said that. I like ur dads attitude.. Relatives often feel the need to "help" you.she's a silly cow. :x
Do people really put * into "sensitive" words like "f*ck" in private messages?
Nope.
I've seen people do that on Facebook
W Wow. My mum wasn't that bad when I came out years ago. The aunt is really messed up. F*ggot? Seriously?
I'm sorry Charlie Marie has to put up with this unreconstructed, pig-ignorant, kuckle-dragger in her family :(
I wouldn't even call the aunt a pig, because pigs are smart and cute. The aunt is neither. But, yes, I agree with you :D
Well done Charlie, the way you defended yourself in the face of disgusting adversity is inspiring.
I don't get why people, like "Aunt Marie" judge others. Gay, lesbian, straight, or bi, her niece will always be her niece. Being LGBTQ or straight is not a lifestyle choice. You don't choose to love men, women, or both, you're born like that. You can't just wake up one day, and say "I think I will go for women/men from now on". Aunt Marie obviously needs to be educated on this. No need for her to be so rude about the whole thing, or even single her out of family stuff.
hoo boy... she's one tough cookie. what a miserable so-and-so that aunt is! yuck.
I volunteer as tribute to adopt this poor child!
Bi shit? I, a proud bisexual took offense. Of course I was already very offended. Wtf?
Amazing :)
Okay. I'm an asexual. But somewhat bashing straight sex like that was rather uncalled for.
Wow her aunties a cunt
What a fucking bitch i hate that derogitpry term fa**it like when you use it in such a nasty mannor of corse its meant to harm unless your just stupid like seriously does this horrible bigot even realize where the derogatory ter mae from! Hostory lesson : yess a faggot is a pile of sticks or a siggeret term in the UK but why os it used in a derogatory way or why is it daragatory? Because in the fucking moddle ages people would use faggots to burn suspected gay persons alive. So in turn she told some one who shes saposed to love and cherish by blood no matter what that they should go burn alive.
Love this, this girl is amazing xxx
Her own mom pisses me off. If my aunt said anything like that to me, my mom would tare her a new one.
It always feels good to tell the relatives to fuck themselves ...whoo hoooooo
I adore you as you are, never change .
WTF? You are a hot dyke -- not a "faggot". Seriously, you are amazing and your aunt is a stupod twat! Please keep being yourself and FUCK THE HATERS even if they are your relatives!!!
Seriously....I want to high-5 dad, hug Maggie and Gibbs her Aunt & cousins.
beautiful chick
My daughter came out to our family several years ago of being pansexual once she explained what it meant I didn't care anyway I just needed to know what it means I have always loved her for who she is, people don't just wake up one day and say I think I want to be gay or bi now they were already born that way nothing can ever change that you as a descent human being should accept that and accept them for who they are nothing about them is going to change. I know my daughter hasn't and I wouldn't trade her for the world!!
Someone started drama and it wasn't the bi girl. her dad's great, though. I suspect he's wanted to tell his sister (or SIL) off for years!
I want to be able to upvote this about a billion times.
I'm trying to understand why all the comments are to someone named @maggieglenn? instead of charlie @zzoltarspeaks doesn't add up.
I hope Uncle Lee and his new, young squeeze show up at the birthday party!
This is pure gold. Love it!
It's sad and depressing that we actually argue over these things. Some people *cough her auntie cough* are like 'oh no, so one likes someone
COME INTO MY LIVING SPACE GREAT TAKING ACTION AGAINST YOUR AUNT
Oh daaaaaammmmn
What a story... That silly family has no idea of the gold they have in this girl. At least the dad gets it!
Being gay doesn t make her gold. It seems to me she got the same character as her aunt.
I didn't say her sexuality made her gold, she's just gold the way any kid can be. She got the best part of her aunt's personality- the hutzpah to stand up and say what she thinks even if she's wrong. I personally would have handled this a lot differently but whatever. She's a kid and will figure it out. In the meantime, bitching at her for her sexuality is only going to cause problems and, if carried to extremes, will drive her away permanently. And that might be the best outcome for this girl.
So sad...
Tolerance =/= acceptance. To get acceptance, you have to change someone's opinion. This was not the best way for either of them to do that.
Coolest dad ever.
I loooove her response to her bitch aunt
And i thought MY family was uptight. Years ago i started dating a woman who's older than me, divorced and has a kid from that marriage. One day my paternal grandmother casually asked if i was seeing anyone. So i told her without thinking to much of it. Next day my brother called and started the conversation with "WHAT DID YOU DO?! Everyone is going bonkers". When i explained it, he just said "oh, that's it?" My mother was supportive as well. But my grandmother and father were furious. I had a lengthy talk with her and she said "So you're dating a wh*re who's preying on younger men? No wonder you didn't introduce her to us". I was 25-is by that time, old enough to make up my own mind if you ask me. And it's not like you introduce every girl/woman to your family immediately after you start dating. In the end it didn't work out. Needless to say, i no longer discuss my personal life with my father and grandmother. Imagine the shitstorm if i was bi or gay. Sadly, you can't chose family.
Homophobic people are the worst. Especially when they're a family member.
Maybe this is one of the reasons Dad divorced Mom.
Who knows
man what a bitch she needs to get smacked in the fucking head for acting stupid
Who? The aunt or Charlie?
Hey, here's an idea. How about we're not ALL required to toe the politically correct line. Some people feel this way, and it's not WRONG. When you think YOU are the arbiter of right and wrong for everyone, then YOU are the one who's "lost it".
This whole thing illustrates why I feel it is ridiculous for young Gay people to use the word Queer when describing themselves. Our Gay elders fought and bled and died to make "Gay" the word for us, now some use Queer, thinking it is somehow more inclusive. If you take this twitter thread and instead of the word "faggot", insert "queer." Now the aunt would actually be politically correct, according to the logic of those who call themselves "queer." Can you imagine referring to Black people using the N Word with a straight face? It is impossible, yet we are doing it to ourselves.
I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body. Can I come to the huge lesbian orgy too?
Is there another lesbian orgy coming up?
Panda copy pastes several very old articles & then pats self on back....
Not the best way to handle the situation by retaliating, but maybe that is their family dynamic.
What a HORRIBLE person her aunt is! She must be really unhappy with her life! Charlie-Marie I love you and your dynamism! Very-very proud of you!!!
What are we going to do!' It's so stupid.
Why are people sharing stuff like this on internet it is a private situation
That may be true, but this lady deserved to be drug through the mud. It's 2017 for fuck sakes! She needs to get off her high horse and realize that she is clearly in the wrong. Her niece likes vaginas, so what???
Totally agree with what you said but *dragged not drug sorry byeee
i would love to press the up vote on your comment more then once :D
No. It really isn't. Kids kill themselves over garbage like this. They need to know that the world won't end when they stand up for themselves.
Another story with only one side. And don't tell me the captions are a proof.
I wish more people had this as the first thought when reading about stories like this!
Thanks!
They both sound weird
drama in every family....too bad she had to air to all to see and hear.....
I think this is not the way to deal with this matter. People have different background that made them think the way they think, and specially past generations. When we grow older we will too. Nevertheless, it is not her life and her opinion of her life means zero. Still, i think we shouldnt assume that they know what is like (or what IS) a lesbian, a bi, a transgender, etc. I prefer to deal with them by giving them information. I believe that prejudices are cured by learning. Many of this people are raised on a bunch of lies, misunderstandings, and assumtions that have nothing to do with reality and they dont have the fault. It is what it was told to them. They dont really have close approach to somebody, a real somebody, a close somebody, that can discover the truth for them. It is not her fault.
Um "disappointing like straight people sex"? Well, therein lies your problem, you take one bad experience and run off thinking you are gay. Sex can be amazing in any venue, you just need a partner who comes to bed to please you and not themselves. My exwife and I both to this day know that no one else will meet the mark because we took care of each other like that in everything. Please dont bash all straight people across the board. That makes you as close minded as those who persecute you. And no one wins, when no one remains the bigger person. By the way, my son is gay, and the only reason we can joke with each other on the straight/gay issue (even name calling jokingly) is because when he came out, we came to an understanding that it isnt an issue. Maybe talking to them about it (when the issue at hand isnt hot anymore) would help make peace for you guys. Just a suggestion.
I apologize for my assumption. "you take one bad experience and run off thinking you are gay." That was wrong of me.
That was more nasty innuendo and digging than an apology from the aunt. But the best response was Charlie's mum. I can just hear that tone of voice, the combination of anger, frustration and exasperation, my mum used to use it on me! Strong willed, intelligent and stubborn teenage/early adult girls must be the bane of every parents existence! If you have been one, or are the parent of one, then you know what I mean....😀
Strong will and intelligence doesn't cause this kind of issue between mother and kid. A lack of acceptance and love does.

Fake. We don't use the word 'faggot' in the UK to refer to gay people. I saw this last year and in THAT story it all started at a Thanksgiving dinner. This person is an attention seeking narcissist riding on someone else's coattails.

dumb whore Im a str8 person, how dare a young moron like u talk about my sex, your the disappointed one who can only poke each other with fingers or plastic toys, oh ya and u can NEVER make babies rubbing your gashes together so go fuck yourself... thats the closest your going to get.
It's a good thing they can't make babies because they have to adopt all the babies straight people created and then abandoned. Also, if you're a straight man that means you experience sexual attraction to women, lesbians experience sexual attraction to women as well which means that you already have something in common but lesbians choose use plastic toys because that way they aren't stuck with a tiny little two inch shrimp
Actually women can use their own bone marrow to create children, no idea how it works but it does, so shut up.

I don't think every private situation should be posted online like it's the trend these days. But I do applaud her for standing up against her family. Just because it's family, doesn't mean you have to accept what they say about you. Although this won't change her aunt's mindset. And maybe she could've been the bigger person with her response. instead of "go fck yourself", could've flipped it and said "atleast I don't have to worry about having such a narrowminded mom" or something?
Because abusers need to be exposed and publicly humiliated. Because kids kill themselves when families abuse them like this. Because we can't let the assholes win. This isn't "private" any more. When it's "private", people die. .... My father beat me bloody for my entire life, until my mother kicked me out of the house because she was tired of watching me bleed. .... I will happily name my father and all of his relatives, because they are all the same. ... No one's asking you to like it. We're TELLING you to suck it up.
I've had my own personal issues and problems in the past that left me emotionally messed up, even 15 years later I'm still trying to work on things, fix things, fix myself. So don't think I don't know what any form of physical or psychological abuse can do. But I still stand by my point that not every thing has to be made public. Different situations call for different approaches. This was a thing between a woman and her close-minded aunt who should've just kept her mouth shut, which, by going all public, turned into a fight between half (if not most of) the family.
Not sure why my post is being downvoted so much but again, not every situation has to be made public, sometimes that can do more harm than good, but every situation and person is different. Her mom and dad (more important people than her aunt imo) seem to accept that she is bi. Her aunt said bad things about her niece, it's not like she is beating her for it. She can just break off contact with her. "Don't presume to judge me" You say you've never wilfully harmed a person, but like Leni says, telling people to suck it up or that they're too stupid for something or talk to them in a certain manner can hurt them too.
@aunt : i do grok what you say. But i'm not sure that they don't do it because they want to be good people or just because they 've been broken by abuse. but because of a lack of serious problems (abuse and things. off course i got my everyday problems as everybody does) i know i don't have all the knowledge. But hey that's why we discuss on the internets :)
Your way of talking to people does kind of point toward a bullying/abusive attitude, Aunt Messy... Telling people to suck it up, people need to be publicly humiliated, people are 'too stupid' for whatever... I know there's this whole 'sticks and stones' thing but words do hurt people, and you are actually willfully hurting people when you're talking to them in that manner. Yeah yeah, I know it's none of my business, I don't know you, blah blah... I'm just saying, to better the world, start with yerself.
@Stijn. Don't presume to judge me. I have never wilfully harmed another person in my entire life. If you're too stupid to grok that MOST people who were abused as kids NEVER abuse others, then you have some serious problems.
i agree with that. The girl just has the same mean temper as her aunt. Your dad and his relatives are all the same (so probably you too). as i come out of a family with nice adults (hooray for me) i'm probably a nice person too. \o/. We need to let the world now who are the abusers and expose them!!!

Airing dirty laundry never works well, neither side looks good for many reasons. This may cause a rift from which the family might never recover
That's a rift that needs to happen. She should never be in contact with any of the people who abused her again. Her own mother chose to attack her. The only support she has is her father, who is better than the rest of them put together.
The rift that started with the Aunt full stop
I don't think she posted it in order to 'look good'. Maybe for support but I don't think that's a bad thing, she's obviously not getting any support from her family. And as someone w/ a complicated family, these kind of rifts might be bad for the family, but can be very good for the individual. Better than living under the tyrannical opinion of your relatives for the rest of your life.

We only ever hear the one side of these situations:/
Other side: discrimination that could be taken to court & homophobic rudeness
What could possibly put the aunt in a good light with such comments???

*Giant eye roll* You got it a fight with a family members nasty things were said on both sides, keep it off the internet. I wouldn't say the aunt was "taken down". It was just sharing family drama, and frankly everyone looks bad.
Yet you're here, proving that stuff like this is social media gold.

Not gold...more like when you watch an infomercial because it is already on.

I think so too. Obviously what the aunt said was horrible - no doubt about it - but everybody's reaction is just as bad. 'You hurt my feelings, now I'm going to hurt yours too'. Nobody's the winner here.

Is faggot a bad word anymore? The fags I know use it all the time.
Very very inappropriate and discriminatory. Used as a hate word like queer or poof. Almost as bad as the 'n' word towards African Americans
Becca just fyi don't bother replying John Smith. He's a troll who goes around posting deliberately inflammatory comments on boredpanda. He was trying to get a rise out of people with his comment about how 'the fags I know use this all the time'.

Saying FAGGOT is free speech :)
Indeed, but keep in mind that it is HATE speech as well. It can ruin a person.

I just cannot wrap my head around this, someone posting a blow-by-blow familial exchange on the internet. People have no concept of privacy anymore, for themselves or others. I remember when people didn't need incessant validation through strangers. The world may not have been better, but at least it wasn't so goddamn annoying

I'm fed up of this gay thing everyday and everywhere. Now being gay is better than anything. So 'straight people sex' is disappointing now. Didn't know that.
But that's because they're fighting for equal rights. Many people disagree with same sex marriage and it's still illegal in many countries, despite the ideal that gay people should be entitled to the same rights as everybody else. I don't know what was meant by "straight people sex" is disappointing but there is a reason why the LGBT community has a loud voice online and in the news.
Ok, I understand your point about people having equal rights, but why should marriage between a man and a woman be acceptable where same sex marriage is not? Marriage within families is often used as a means of exercising power over other family members, whereas same sex marriage doesn't endanger heterosexual members of society and is prohibited mainly due to homophobia. Of course, fining, jailing and taking children away from their parents are inexcusable things to do, everybody's view on matters such as this should be respected. This has little to do with the ideas presented in "Brave New World". True, in the story individual views are stifled I disagree that hypersexualizing the children had anything to do with homophobia. I could go on about this but it's a completely different topic, but correct me if you think otherwise.

Everybody has 'equal rights', a gay man can marry a woman, like any other man. That's a right. But he can't marry another man, he can't marry his mother, his daughter or his dog. Those are not 'rights', are rules and laws, and they exist since the beginning of every civilization in every corner of the world. And that's for something. Another point: those 'equal rights' that you mention are a a lever to introduce by force very different things. Where I live, the children will be taught about homosexuality and anal sex and paraphilias as BDSM and others. Why?. If you don't agree, you are called 'homophobe' automatically, you could be fined, jailed or they even can take your children away. <- a BIG machinery to brutalize and hypersexualize the citizen. (Brave New World).
Get over yourself, homophobe.

Zero arguments
She just says that because she's hurt and is in hurting back mode. I don't think her post needs to be seen as some morally correct high ground, she was acting on her emotions. But I think that's fine. Having family like that is extremely hurtful. And it's her Twitter account, she's not in a court or whatever or making a speech to support gay rights. She's just venting.

Well, her Aunt was right about the drama part
Well, partially right. Turns out it wasn't gays that like drama. It's the women in that family!!!

Sad thing is, she regretted nothing?

Am I the only one who thinks, that this teenager needs to behave better around her relatives? Older relatives will be like this no matter what you do, gay or not. If you are married to a person from a different race, unemployed, single, artist, pole dancer, astrophysicist, waitress or whatever they don't think it is appropriate, they will give you unwanted advice and tell you stories about moral. You see them a couple of times a year, why are you ruining everyone's day by replying to their old-fashioned comments? Next time just smile and nod, smile and nod. Believe me, there is absolutely no sense to be so rude - you are not going to prove you are right, you are just proving their thesis. I think the aunt had a good intention in her own way and the kid was unnecessarily rude.
True. Although my late grandpa LOVED it when people had the guts to disagree with him and start a good argument with solid evidence to back their opinion. He used to be a sociology professor and liked to push people's buttons. Other than that, yes, it's generally easier to just be pleasant with the grumpy old relatives, pretend you agree with them, and get out of there!
Yas
Stanimira, the aunt, being an older person, should have been more mature, and not call her a faggot. If she doesn't understand a "lifestyle", as she quoted, perhaps she should not be passing any judgement, or singling her out of family functions.
