What restaurants do you know where no one is ambivalent about it; they either REALLY love it, or they REALLY hate it, but almost no one is in the middle? For me, there are two — both places that I hate: Waffle House and White Castle. I can’t understand why anyone would eat in either of those spots, yet some folks will fight you for saying they’re bad.

I heard a good analoy. When you're a kid, McDonald's is a win. As an adult, feels like a loss.

Montana's BBQ Steakhouse restaurant. You either love it or hate it. Whether it's the high volume of noise echoing around the high, vaulted ceiling or the inevitable birthday announcements and a shouty rendition of Montana's own happy birthday song.
It could be the haphazardly, but purposely placed decor that looks like it's seen better years, and very cheesy, cringe words everywhere (Run Pig Run).
Maybe it's the inconsistent quality of food and confusing choices of how they're prepared and served. For ex. sliced Parmesan cheese on a Caesar salad instead of shredded, and over-cooked ribs. Everything is super greasy, sweetened and overcooked, and you wouldn't know the difference until you go to a higher end restaurant that serves relatively the same type of food, but better made.
Sometimes me and my daughter liked going there out of convenience until we started expanding our eatery horizons and realized there are better places to go for about the same price.

The Salisbury House. This is very regional to Manitoba, btw. Some people LOVE The Sals, and take their out of town friends here every time. Nothing super special about it though. They serve a lot of classic, old fashioned diner stuff. People are bent on how the slider burgers are called Nips, as if that makes it all the more unique. They're just cheeseburgers. Don't get me wrong, the food is mostly good. But it is on the more expensive side for a laid back, cafeteria style diner.

Tim Hortons. I can't tell if people who really LOVE and are loyal to Timmies really do love the coffee and food, or are just addicted to the coffee. The way the customers are towards the staff, I'm leaning on addiction. Tim Hortons has lost a lot of respect and love over the years by long time customers. There are people who are boycotting Timmies and some who are pushing for better food and drink, as well as better working conditions for the staff. If you've worked there, you have some work-related trauma.
