US, the health care system SUCKS!

The health insurance lobby in the U.S. is extremely powerful. They have found ways to fragment the market and force employers to accept terrible contracts. Combine this with for-profit health care provider institutions, and we have the nightmare we see.

Did you hear that?

Especially right now. No one wants to work so the quality of everything has gone down. A friend's baby died waiting for an ambulance to a bigger children's hospital because there wasn't enough drivers. Someone's baby died because someone else wanted more money.

The exception is when you’re collecting and living solely on Social Security…then it’s free. [You have to live somewhere that’s not overly expensive and have no debts to pull this off.]

If I say anything positive about Trump I'll be downvoted, I know. But. Still. His foreign politics were refreshing, to say the least. His lecturing NAVO partners of their pledge of spending 2% on defense was sourly needed. There's more. If only the man was able to resist going insane when he sees a mic and a camera. Still, I'm convinced he will be a major factor in the next election and has a decent chance to be re-elected.

Canada. The Indigenous were stripped of their land, given reserves to live on (some of which still don't have clean, drinking water, let alone proper plumbing). In the '60s to '90s, their children were needlessly ripped from their families and placed in horrifically abusive "Indian Residential Schools" run by the Catholic church. Many children died and were buried in unmarked graves. Our Indigenous are still treated as second class citizens and the past atrocities are still being downplayed by ignorant and arrogant politicians. Check out Ex Manitoba Premier, Brian Pallister's embarrassing speech, and a recently sworn in Indigenous Minister's embarrassment on his first day.

Yeah, residential schools is one of the biggest blots in our history. And the fact that many Indigenous peoples STILL dont have clean water is infuriating. The governments aren't doing barely enough about it.

Came here to add this but it's already #3! People think Canadians are so nice but we are needlessly cruel during war, absolutely ruined the native peoples, and on the "reconciliation day" the man who ordered the holiday (which only really ended up applying to mostly white government workers anyway) was on friggin vacation.

Indigenous people everywhere have been overrun by white people who think/thought they were better than original people and despised their culture. Even today we have power plays between countries that can get us into world conflict.

Indigenous people of all kinds have been attacked by their own group or others. Its not about whites doing it. All big cultures did it. Like the mayans that practised slavery. Or the mongolians conquering and killing half of eurasia

United States. The number of school shootings, the way "corporate slaves" are raised up as the model all employees should strive to be, the obsession with brands (I'm not talking Gucci, I'm talking Starbucks, Target, Apple - yup, calling you out), the pressure to be an extrovert especially in the workplace, low wages, horrific "health care" (if it can even be called that), stubborn adherence to political parties even in the face of major issues with said party, ridiculous obsession with college sports, equally ridiculous obsession with American football (both of which actually and literally cause rifts in some families - yes, it's absurd), blind patriotism (it's not bad to want to protect your country, don't get me wrong - I'm talking about the people who immediately jump to the idea that we are the "greatest nation" and the world should be grateful we exist), terrible education systems (yes, I know, we have Harvard and Yale. We're also 38/71 in math and 24/71 in science (in an assessment from 2015). I won't even get into other fields, it's too embarrassing.), social injustice among both racial and gender lines, police brutality, no social safety nets, homelessness, terrible real estate market, most of the things we "make" actually are outsourced to workers in other countries so we can pay the workers less, most of what we "recycle" is actually sent to other countries (usually, China) to be dumped in landfills, pollution, the wealthy 1% (Bezos, Musk, etc.), working 40+ hours a week and still not being able to make ends meet, I mean I could go on, but you get the point...

I think its called "White Supremacy" and just about anywhere white folks showed up, the indigenous people were enslaved, robbed, raped, pillaged and THEN converted to Christianity. Amazingly they were told it was for their own good and was condoned by the "Great Jehovah".. So, yeah, the UK was big on this but so was the rest of Western Europe in varying degrees. And Europe's offspring, the United States, managed to continue the abuse of minority populations until, well, until right now.

Not that American (north and south, English, Spanish, Portugese) history is clean, but the accidental infections of smallpox brought by the first explorers is what killed off the majority, before the first colonies even started. Settler found a place that was sparsely populated, and the natives hadn't recovered and new diseases were brought. Not all of the damage was deliberate or controllable.

True - no matter how close you are to the hospital. Another fun fact, US emergency rooms prioritize the patients delivered by ambulance over walk-in. It's not based on need. I was forced to sit in the ER public waiting room for 3 hours with a four inch bleeding laceration to my face. I was told later I would have been seen right away if I arrived via an ambulance. The hospital was two blocks away from my house.

Italy often is included on lists of countries that provide free universal health care. The health care in Italy is not free, not universal, and sometimes is of such low quality that it isn't even health care. Italy is included on lists of countries where a university education is free. University isn't free in Italy. If you abandon your university studies, and want to go back years later, you have to pay all the taxes and fees you would have had to pay if you had been attending all those years, meaning you are paying thousands of euros for which you get absolutely nothing. Also in Italy, public elementary schools and public high schools do not lend the students textbooks. The parent have to buy all their children's expensive text books in book stores.

Besides all our past as conquerors in America (North and South), we allied with Germany in WW2 and we had a "nice little man" who idolized Hitler and his tomb is cemented with the bones of the people they forced to build it. And provoking civil wars over "no balls to do it, bro". Even to this day we still yell at each other about who was to blame for the civil war and who did what, even our government does it.... While they spend the money of the European funds and we still have many people without work and half the country depopulated with ghost towns that do not even have drinking water or electricity... But, hey, our beaches are cool places to go on vacations...

I do not think that we can be blamed for allying with Hitler when we were being under a fascist genocidal dictature. People did not have any power to decide to do it or not. But we should definitely blame those who still defend the dictature like all Vox members

It is also insane how badly they dismantled the public school and healthcare system. We had a great health system until the right wing started dismantling it to prioritize private entiries. Now it is so collapsed that its almost impossible to see any specialist. My mother needed to see an eye specialist because she was developing a condition that could leave her blind; the waiting list was so long that she would have been almost blind by then. She needed to pay an expensive private doctor plus all the massive amounts of taxes that she needs to pay and that go to corruption instead of to the social system.

All countries have warts, historical and current. The furere will be what we make it, for better or worse. Each of us has responsibility to work for positive change, even if it is only by our individual actions in everyday life. Not all heroes are celebrities or act at a national level. Grass roots change is the most effective and long lasting. If we want positive change, we all must work for it every day and lead by example. Positive change originates with the people, it cannot be effectively legislated from the top down.

The 13th amendment abolished slavery. Women got added in the 19th amendment 19th also allowed women to vote, but the constitution was written in 1787 slaves got in the constitution in 1865 and women got in the constitution in 1919, which is around 2 decades until all African Americans and women got in and had rights. And it's NOT just because of the high population: Emissions per capita are extremely high as well. China emits more CO2 than the US in total, but less per capita, because of the huge population and every company in the world sending their stuff to China to be made by SLAVES.

Chile here. The military took the power by force on September 11 1973 then we were in a total dictature for 17 years. People got tortured, murdered, bodies disappeared, people were prosecuted, children were stolen and given into adoption and many of the trash humans who collaborated with the dictature's "procedures" were ex-nazis.... We're still paying today the consequences of some "reformations" so we're changing the constitution.

My entire adolescence was filled with the Vietnam War, including devastating pictures shown on the news every night. I spent an entire year during 2001-2002 traveling around Southeast Asia, and when I went to the site of the My Lai Massacre, I bought flowers and placed one on every single grave I could find, sobbing the entire time. The Vietnam war was a national disgrace and is up there with the measles/smallpox blankets given to the Native Americans!

There were so many victims in that war. The people of Vietnam, to be sure...but also the U.S. soldiers, disproportionately African American, forced to fight in an illegal conflict under threat of imprisonment. Pure evil...a deeply racist war on so many levels.

No matter how many languages a person spoke, they could pick any other European language as the test. The most famous example was a Jewish man who spoke 4 different languages. They tested him with the lord's prayer... in Scottish Gaelic.

Greece: Glorious past, disappointing present. Modern Greeks are nothing like their ancient counterparts they love to brag about. They revel in the glory of an ancient civilization that has nothing to do with today's situation. Today, Greeks are rude and disrespectful, they don't learn from their mistakes, they always blame someone else (accountability? what's that?), the government is very corrupt, and a lot of competent Greeks leave because there's more room to grow in other countries, while in Greece they don't have the same chance for a bright future. I also left and moved to Canada to be with my partner, I fell in love with the place here! And the more I see how things are different here, the more I see how awful the situation is in Greece. Third, the kids are educated about politics at a young age and learn to be biased. I think that they should not get educated about politics until like, 16. Fourth, although same-sex relationships are legal, they're not allowed to marry nor adopt. LGBT+ people have to face many legal and social challenges that aren't experienced by cisgender heterosexual residents (especially the Chinese ones, I feel like China hates immigrants). China provides no anti-discrimination protections for LGBT people, nor does it prohibit hate crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
