A lot of us had a moment where an innocent action somehow sparked an unexpectedly dramatic reaction. So, what harmless thing did you do that people blew way out of proportion?

Whenever I put a condiment on something that others normally wouldn't.

You're not going to die simply because I put a small bit of Ketchup in my Mac and Cheese.

I might! You don't know me! /s Seriously, I agree. live and let live. If people enjoy their food in what you (generally, not OP specifically) consider a 'weird' way... does it affect you? Is their weirdness going to turn you into an ice-cream and pickle aficionado? No? So what business is it of yours? Live and let live. OP probably thinks your drink is gross, anyway.

A well-known local writer posted on social media about a book he was promoting. The name of the book was incorrect. I dared to post a comment drawing attention on this (since you are promoting something, at least write it correctly, I thought).

He corrected the mistake and thanked me. But a hoard of haters on his page started insulting, threatening and harassing me ("you think you're so smart"). Social media is considered a public space; any threats fall under specific laws and can be reported to police, with proofs (screenshots). I reminded them about this, and they magically stopped.

Got an average of 65 out of 80 during my preboard exams last year and my dad a****d me so bad emotionally that I legitimately considered s*****e.

Another time could be when I was 6 years old I must’ve said something rude so my dad dangled me over the balcony from the fourth floor, legs hanging and all with zero support in case he dropped me. My parents still blame me for that when I bring up how traumatic it was

JFC - if my father did something like that to me, once I turned old enough to leave home he'd never have heard from me ever again. When you're old enough to make your own decisions, you can choose who you want to let into your life, but more importantly who you want to exclude from it.

That's horrible Stardust. First, you took these exams, and if their anything like they are in my country, these are optional. They're literally just a practice test. Secondly, that's an 81.25%, which is a very good score. I'm not sure how that works out when compared to others in your country, but I seriously doubt it's bad. You're a smart kid. Finally, pre-board exams are usually HARDER than the real thing, because the whole point is to practice. Also, and double finally, you're working to make a better life for yourself. If you were my daughter I'd be proud as hell of you. In fact, I AM proud of you. And triple finally, what your dad did was horrific. I sincerely hope for his sake as well as yours, that he seeks some professional help. I would suggest you do the same. EMDR is a great therapy for trauma sufferers.

They’re not optional but they don’t reflect upon your total score. An 80% is pathetic in my country because you have to compete with nearly a billion students and a difference of 0.01% determines if you’ll get into a good college or not. I scored only 93.17% on the actual board exam which was so bad as four other kids scored way higher than me and they were invited back to school last week for the school’s Annual Day. It’s been months since I last kept in touch with any of them but my family still compares me to them and say that I’m talentless as I’m only interested in writing, drawing and astronomy while the kid who scored the highest was class president, good at dancing, good at singing, better at art than me, better at writing than me, played the guitar better than me, was a better person than me etc. The only way I had her beat was at astronomy and sports but according to my dad I’m not good at sports and I’m fat (even though my weight is proportional to my height.

Man, I don’t even feel like I’ll score enough on my college entrance exam to get into my dream college. If I don’t get into that college then not only will tuition be super expensive everywhere else but I won’t be able to study astronomy anywhere else since all other colleges having astronomy courses are in completely different states

I hope that -- if you don't move out earlier -- you intend on moving out as soon as you can. And seriously. Australia needs people with science knowledge. We have too many people like me (knowing arts, law, etc), but maths and science? Crickets.

Understandable to be confused. I ran an experiment where I complimented different people with the very vanilla phrase "I like your shirt". About 70% of the time I got a thank you and a smile. About 30% of the time I got little to no response, usually a shrug (mostly this was from men but I think they were confused that I said anything at all). But for a few people I got very negative reactions. Always the negative reactions were from women, and usually just a glare, but one woman called me a creep. Alternatively, if I used the phrase "I like your glasses", 100% of the people I said that to were happy to hear it (I obviously only said to those wearing glasses).

People got so mad at me for just helping an old lady into a van. Just because it was "my van" and why did I put a "bag over her head" and what were the "ropes and shovel for". Seriously people, the ropes are so she doesn't get knocked around on the drive. Totally for her protection. And the shovel is for burying the body.

Oh my god same! I have this quirk of bouncing my leg up and down or rocking back and forth and doing it helps me relax and stay focused but my mom forcefully holds my knee and sometimes in school my teachers would grip my shoulders super tightly to stop my rocking. They say I do that because I’m disturbed but their physically holding me disturbs me more

Yup. I do the leg bouncing thing a lot and mom used to call me on it all the time and tell me to stop it. I also have a tendency to massage one palm with the thumb of the other hand in a circular motion, when leg wobbling isn't an option. Way later in life, like just a couple of years ago, I discovered that it's a form of "stimming". If you aren't familiar with the word, Google and follow the wiki link for more info.

I have to admit, the whole both-sides-ism nonsense is pure rhetorical garbage. One side is corrupt, but one side is both corrupt AND calling for the M****R of the other side, and for caging children, kidnapping people off of the streets, and invading our cities with the military in hopes of starting a civil war. They aren't equally bad, one is FAR FAR FAR worse.

During the worst of COVID, larger cities were storing the deceased in refrigerated trucks until protocols and arrangements could be made. On the facebook page of a local news station, I asked if that was being done in our location. People attacked me saying that I was calling for unmarked mass graves or large, public funeral pyres.
    I wasn't.
My older brother was in the ICU with COVID and was not expected to survive because he was diabetic. We were all worried and scared about what would happen to him.
I deleted the post because of all the a***e I was getting.

Yeah... I'm not a fan of Brexit, not even slightly. On other sites (not here as my coming here is a lot more recent), I've been told to d-i-e, to just go k-i-l-l myself, and that people like me (a British national living in the EU) aren't welcome in England any more, and I've seen so many impressively creative uses of the F-word. Yet somehow, these people, they think that "because they won" that their opinion matters and I can, well, unalive myself repeatedly until I get a clue or something. 🤷🏻‍♀️ These same sorts of people may well put Farage into power as the next PM. Oh, joy... 😐 Everything is so horribly polarised these days, and compromise and discussion are unknown concepts, it's just about who shouts the loudest, isn't it?

As a fellow Brit living in the EU, I agree. The UK is a tiny country with a population that is expanding by the minute. Where are they going to house people in the future? Mega City One, here we come! As for where food will come from, uh... oh yes, the EU. The UK was once the most powerful nation on Earth and British pride meant something. Now, not so much.

I don't even care about the Amber Heard / Johnny Depp bs. I just got sick of any time somebody wanted to complain about women, they would do a *cough* Amber Heard *cough*. It was so unoriginal. Now I can defend her, and rack up the hundreds of downvotes, but it no longer gets you banned. Although I suspect the hater bots will just report my account now.

When I was in high school, back in the 80s, I was in class, and my desk was nearest to the wall. I noticed a thumb tack was loose on a bulletin board on the wall right where I was sitting. I tried to push it back in but it fell on the floor, where I preceded to pick it up and push it in again. I looked up, and my math teacher was pointing at me, and staring and kept saying "I saw you!" It was like something out of a horror movie. It was almost like she was possessed. It's funny that I've remembered it all these years.
