The view was amazing, I had some idea what I would see when I got to the top of the pass (9,000 feet / 2750 meters up) but it blew me away. “highest paved pass in the Eastern Alps” I learned later. Sunset when I headed down, last remnants of daylight on the distant mountains. A light rain started at the top and left a scrim of ice on the road for the first 5km heading down. Dark, ice, then near freezing cold rain, 60-70 degree embankments, knee high “guard rails” and I'm terrified of heights, it was memorable and beyond scary. Think I dropped about 4,000 feet in elevation before finding a valley with a hotel. Next morning a clear bright day and a perfect view all the way back to the top. Looking back up during the day was almost as scary as coming down. It was 13 years ago, I remember it like it was today, I remember thinking "Are you out of your frigging mind???" Was super cool though..so there's that. 10/10 would do it again, but not in dark, icy rain

went up up, over and down this pass three times in two days. Yorkshire Dales, Omaha Beach, American Cemetery, Passo Dello Stelvio and this picture are all from a solo motorcycle ride from England, zig-zag through the Alps and eventually to Sevastopol, Crimea (was part of Ukraine at the time) 2 months and 5,000 miles give or take wandering around

I love riding trains, in 2015 I went from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to Lisbon, Portugal by train, 3 months on the rail. Great trip, great time
