Music and other trends, hypes like TikTok, movies? Or physical signs? Why and how did you start to think you're starting to get old?

#1

Well, this is an interesting question. You see I will be 70 in December of this year so; I am definitely OLD! So, let's see, I began to feel old last year when I realized I needed something to sit on when working in my garden. Getting up from sitting on the ground has gotten difficult. Now I do not sit on the ground without a plan on how I am going to get up! There have been lots of reminders that I have been heading towards being old over the years. I graduated high school in 1970 (I think, it's been a long time you see) and have watched the music I enjoyed back then become classics. I have watches new technology come along. When I was a girl there was no color TV (no remotes either), computers, we only had party line phone lines and dial phones, (ours was on the wall in the kitchen). I remember a car my dad bought for $300 brand new! We rented our house for $50 a month. Now all that's changed. So, I guess over the years there have been lots of signs, but I have been ignoring them.

The fact that you're sharing this on bored panda makes me very impressed along with all the other things. You remind me of my grandma who recently passed in December. She was 81

Thanks for sharing, surely there will be a big party for your 70th birthday in december. And surely many many more to come. 300$ for a new car, wow. As a car-enthusiast: Do you remember what car it was?

Thankyou, I remember it being like a station-wagon and having wood on the sides. If my memory is correct the color was black, and the wood parts were natural wood color. This was back in the 1950's and we lived in Hawaii. (My dad was in the air force, and we were stationed at Hickam AFB). I may have the price wrong about it being that much new maybe it was used? I remember it being really nice and shiny. lol th-63ed1d83c4d8d.jpg th-63ed1d83c4d8d.jpg

    To answer my own question: When I talked to my students about watching LOTR in cinema. Many didn't even know it and others called it an "old movie". Well damn... I didn't even dare to bring up my favourite movie "Smokey And The Bandit" from 1977, a movie that I grew up with. On the plus-side: My students keep me up-to-date with the latest trends, apps, technology and so on. Even though I mostly can't share the excitement. Also: Bruises don't fully go away anymore. And even the smallest cut leads to a scar.

Its like yesterday I was 15 and laughing with my friends but now I am gonna enter the new world of adulthood. Honestly I am a little bit scared.

    Surely that was also an effect ov Covid-19. The Corona years surely must have been difficult. Socially and psychologically. I assume for someone your age it must have been more difficult than for folks my age. I did observe that too with my students. 2-3 years is just a lot compared to your age and that sure did have an impact. Even so: if you got friends and family by your side, you surely will be fine.

    In 5 more years you’ll marvel at what a kid you were at 18. This goes on until you hit about 30, then you might actually start to feel like an adult for real. Maybe.

    That's how it is though. One day you're a kid in school, you're biggest worry is the latest rumors and social issues. And then the next day, all those people who you had for atleast the last 4 years are gone. You will slowly lose contact with them all. Suddenly everything costs and means money that you need to get. You'll mess up so much, and feel so alone and not enough. But then suddenly you figure yourself out and money still is a challenge but you understand more. And from there you wing it because you still have no clue what you're doing. And if you've created another human at any point in time in this, you will forever be drowning with barely any breath left, but watching them learn to swim and see them make it to shore makes it worth it. But you still have no clue what you're doing and now it's even more complicated and money is really hard to save.

    I'm 46 and going through perimenopause - no kids, never wanted them. "It's time to have kids" is a societal construct, something you're pressured into. You don't have to. Ever. Unless, of course, you want to. And then as long as you're able you can.

    Why is it “time” to have children? At 19 I realized I only thought about having kids because it was “normal” and what others expected of me. Decided right then I had no desire to have kids, and therefore no need or desire to be married. Stuck to my guns, and I’m happily single and child free (except my canine babies, of course). Sitting back and smirking while all my friends are on their second or third marriage and their kids hate them.

    Sleep hurts me. Actual sleep. I mean, I've been an insomniac all my life but now sleeping on my favorite side cramps my arm and hip; sleeping on the other strains an old injury (tore the muscles off my rib cage). Sleeping upright like I started to do a few years back to reduce headaches, hurts my sciatica as well as a few other issues. I just want my limited, 3 or 4 hour long sleeps back ;_;
