Grandparents Should Not Be Obligated To Care For Their Grandchildren Except Under Certain Circumstances Or Emergency Situations.

I use to babysit my grandchildren. Then it went from grands to greatgrand until I was burned out because I had the responsibility of assisting my elderly mother, also. I think being with grandchildren should be an enjoyable occasion, overall.

Share on FacebookAbsolutely Agree there is no obligation. Grandparents made it quite clear they didn’t want to do regular babysitting and we respect that. We only ask grandparents to babysit for really important occasions (weddings for eg). Its usually about twice a year. Because we are so careful not to abuse the privilege they often offer to have the kids so we can have a date night ❤️ I really appreciate thier assistance and the kids are super lucky to have such a good relationship with their grandparents
Even in certain circumstances or emergencies, I don't think they're obligated any more than any one else. In an emergency, there are community resources. If grandparents aren't truly able to care for a child, the child may not have their needs properly met, or even be inadvertently endangered. As bad as systems are, a child in community care with grandparents who visit or at least call may be safest and healthiest.
