In today’s story, the original poster (OP) tells us how he finally stood up against his girlfriend’s (Sienna) disrespectful dad (Neil). Her family hosts dinner every Sunday, and it’s a huge tradition that they always follow. Trouble brewed after Neil kept insulting OP because of his job, and it just never stopped. Every weekend was the same: Neil’s insults and everyone’s laughter.
The thing is, OP is a farrier; basically, a person who does horse hoof care, and gets paid quite decently. However, Neil absolutely hates this field, but he barely knows that it requires skill and earns way more money than any office job. That’s why the jabs just kept coming at OP. He was also mad that Sienna never once stood up for him, and said that he didn’t want to go for dinner anymore.
She begged him to give it one more try and even said that she would say something to her dad. Well, he relented, but wasn’t really surprised when she stayed silent this time as well. He decided that enough was enough. OP finally clapped back, reminding Neil that he earns €74,000 a year (roughly $85,000), has his own business, and looks after horses from 3 counties worth more than Neil’s car!
I bet the father’s face must have been a sight to behold! He was quiet the entire time after that, but Sienna’s brother approached OP and applauded him. That’s right, because Neil had done the same to his wife as well. However, Sienna was extremely angry with the poster. In fact, she expected an apology from him, but he refused to since he was not at fault here.

Once in a while is fine, as we all love to joke around, but the truth is that none of us like to be mocked constantly. I have been at the receiving end of it with my ex in the past, so I know how terribly it can hurt. Experts also agree that belittling is a form of emotional cruelty that can wear down a person and slowly chip away at their self-esteem.
Having to go through it every weekend must have really frustrated the poster beyond his limit. Although the poster stopped him once, there’s no guarantee that Neil won’t do it again. Considering the fact that he also “mocked” (or more like bullied) his daughter-in-law before, just shows that he’s a very toxic person, who may never really change his behavior.
Also, OP’s girlfriend’s silence was truly baffling. Believe it or not, but an unsupportive partner can lead to a physical impact on a person’s body. Research has found that it can lead to physical stress, as evidenced by higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol in the body. On top of being belittled by her dad, he also had to face this. I truly feel sorry for the guy.
A lot of folks also claimed that his partner sounds like a hypocrite. The fact that she got mad at him for “humiliating” her dad, but didn’t utter a word when it happened to him for so long, really proves their point. This is what Sienna’s father is: “Schroedinger's D*******g: The person who says something cruel and nasty, then decides whether it was "just a joke" based on the reaction they get.” Sienna needs to choose a side, either OP or her father. One would hope, considering how much of an a*****e daddy is, that she would choose OP.

Being a farrier is a very important job, one that takes a lot of skill. I owned horses for decades, worked at the barn sometimes and held horses for the farrier. It takes real talent to deal with all sorts of horses.

Guess Numbskull Neil won't be horsing around after finding out OP can indeed ride on his high horse given his job pays like horseshoe's luck. Numbskull Neil would have done better to hold his horses after the first attempt but now he just got his fragile ego trampled on! Erm what’s Neil’s issues he’s F KIN IRISH the Irish are horse people !, and horse people NEED FARRIERS ,(even if the prices are scandalous now £110 a set of shoes I used to pay like £40 lol ) but it’s a highly skilled profession it’s also dangerous to !, horses be unpredictable, as a horse owner myself of well all my life till two n half almost three yrs ago ,when my Irish g y p s y trotter stallion aged 20 was stolen from his field 💔💔n despite being micro chipped he’s never been found , 💔things can go wrong when shoeing them the insurance is horrendous, but a good fairer is never outta work ! It also takes a toll on your back to !, Neil needs to wind his neck in n human up!! N your g/f needs to get a grip up to , op NTA x

The father will double down and get really nasty, he's a small man who likes to make himself feel big by bringing other people down then all ways passes it of as 'just a joke'. Your girlfriend should have your back she doesn't respect you as much as she doesn't recognise a*****e behaviour, move on.

When you marry someone, you marry their family. If you cannot get along with gf's family, then you don't marry the gf. Otherwise, your life will be miserable unless you can move 1000 miles away. Tell Sienna that she will never have a husband as long as she keeps bringing bfs home to dad. Tell her you love her, but you will not marry her, and need to move on to someone who will support you in tough times.

Keep your job and DTMFA. And there are a lot of essential jobs valuable to society out there with shamefully low pay, just saying. A person with a higher paying job doesn't do more for society than a person with a lower paying job - it's wild that so many people seem to think this
