George R.R. Martin Reveals Ending In Books Will Be Different From Series Finale
Underwhelming, disappointing and confusing are all words Game of Thrones fans found themselves using to describe the ending of the critically acclaimed show. For a show that was hailed for outstanding cinematography, scores and larger-than-life battle scenes the finale went out with a whimper, not a bang.
There was the disappointing story arc end of Daenerys, the frankly unearned position as king of the six kingdoms for Bran and not to mention how Jon’s lineage ended up not mattering whatsoever? Not everyone was disappointed but for those that were, or fans who are just sad about the saga ended in general, GOT author George R. R. Martin has confirmed on his blog that the ending of the HBO series and the end of the book series will be completely different.

The Winds of Winter was initially set to be released around 2014, which was extended to the author stating he hoped it would be published before the show’s sixth season. July 2017, he wrote on his LiveJournal that he was “still working on it” and said he had “good days and bad days, and that’s all I care to say.” Martin stayed disconnected from the show during the final season while he worked on the book, but there is yet to be a release date.
The announcement was welcomed news for fans of the books and HBO series

Share on FacebookExcited he says he is finishing them, I hope that's true. It didn't sound like he confirmed an ending change at all to me. I don't want him to change the ending of this is the result of fans not liking it on HBO- I have faith that GRRM would have gotten to that same ending properly and it would have been great. I'm sure authors change direction all the time but don't mess things up that are already in place for this to be the ending.
I think he didn't say it will be equal nor different, but that doesn't make headlines since is it is now fashionable to hate the TV series and the show-runners. (And BTW he endlessly praised the show and its makers of course)
Look, it took Roger Zelazny 20 YEARS to write Book 2 of the Amber saga. He's a writer; he gets easily side-tracked.
Load More Replies...I started reading these books when they first came out. (96?) I've enjoyed them and will finish the series if I live that long although I've forgotten lots of bits and pieces. Game of thrones has taught be a lesson though, never, ever buy a book that has " book one" in its title unless you know the series is finished.
I usually get the books but wait till the series is finished before I start reading them, because I usually forget the entire story if I wait years between the books. If everybody didnt buy the first books then the series wouldn't do well and the author suffers and might choose not to continue an unprofitable series, so not buying them is not the solution. If you have like the author and have faith in his work then you should just get the books and support him.
Load More Replies...Nah, it's unacceptable. I didn't even watch a single episode of GOT & I think it's unacceptable! You spend all that money making this epic (? I suppose) series...promote the c**p out of it, make it into addiction that everybody talks about as if it's real life, memes, viral tweets, videos, re-enactments & can't have a conversation without somebody making some reference to GOT! GOT this, GOT that! This character killed that character, Jon didn't pet the dog...which was apparently a tragedy so profound that fans nearly waged war over it...but then it ends like this...???????? ??????? No. Not acceptable. It's lazy writing. It's a waste of time. It's a waste of money. People need therapy because of GOT and this is how it ends??????????? "Oh, wait...there's more! It's going to end better, I promise!" Makes me glad I never started watching.
That would be very low if the book ending would be much different- first he tells showrunners where to go with the story, then finds out fans don't like it, then change book ending...
I don’t know, but that Kevin Mendoza guys idea of an ending was absolutely dreadful
Uhm, yeah. Hardly a surprise. Not saying that as a hater of the shows ending, but of course the O.G. writer is gonna go his own way!
GRRM is a genius indeed, in the same distinction of Tolkien and all the greatest writers past and present. He deserves a life time achievement award or Pulitzer if he hasn't received it by now. With regards to David and Dan, they've been 99% loyal to the story lines since the beginning and I don't think they deserve all the negative comments about season 8. We all know by now that George doesn't comply with fairy tales ending either.
All I'm gonna say is, don't make the same mistakes the show does George! He ain't Aegon VI until he is coronated ain't no numbers for ppl until they sit on the iron throne😂 but in all seriousness I am SO excited for winds. Ever since the ending of GOT (which I hated I'm no Stark fan) I've been looking at Bran differently. It's been years since I read Dance and since I've added a number of titles to my read list including Frank Herbert's Dune saga. And now as I see Bran's useless legs and see him becoming not himself or any individual I think:terrible purpose. And as I go back and I read him describe drooling at the smell of elk through summers senses even in his boy skin I think: abomination. This is going to be interesting 😈
Seasons 1-7 : A girl walks into the fire, comes out unharmed with 3 dragon eggs.people - cool, it's a fantasy show. A girl learn to face swap, kill a bunch of people by using their face and no one notice it's a young girl. people - cool, it's a fantasy show. A man dies, then comes back to life, cuz magic. people - cool, it's a fantasy show. A horde of zombies with a zombie dragon gather forces in the snow to conquer the world. people - cool, it's a fantasy show. Season 8 - The crippled kid is the king. people - what? that doesn't make sense! other characters have better stories !!!
Suspension of disbelief only works if you don't treat your audience like idiots.
