Protests have erupted all over the US over the death of George Floyd. Cities are imposing curfews and states are activating National Guard members to calm down the demonstrators but they continue to express pain and anger with chants, signs and outbreaks of violence.
And while many questions, like what's going to happen to the police officers involved in the incident, are still unanswered, one thing is certain: the demands for justice and an end to police brutality against African Americans have united the entire country and people of all backgrounds are taking a knee together.

A Group Of Black People Protecting A Cop Who Got Separated From The Others
Based on accounts from witnesses, video footage, and official statements, here's what the public knows about Mr. Floyd's death so far.
Everything began with a report of a fake $20 bill. A report was made on the evening of the 25th of May, when Mr. Floyd bought a pack of cigarettes from a grocery store. The store employee thought the $20 bill Mr. Floyd paid with was counterfeit and reported it to police.
Mr. Floyd had been living in Minneapolis for several years after. He had recently been working as a bouncer but just like so many other Americans became unemployed during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr. Floyd was a regular at Cup Foods, the grocery store where he tried to buy the cigarettes. Mike Abumayyaleh, the owner of the store, told NBC that Mr. Floyd was a friendly face and a pleasant customer who never caused any trouble. But Mr. Abumayyaleh wasn't working that day.

A Veteran Protesting His Government After Fighting For It Shows The United Fight For Equality
At around 20:08, two police officers arrived at the scene. Mr. Floyd was sitting in a car parked around the corner with two other people.
After approaching them, one of the officers, Thomas Lane, pulled out his gun and ordered Mr. Floyd to show his hands. In an account of the incident, prosecutors didn't explain why Mr. Lane thought it necessary to draw his gun.
According to the prosecutors, Mr. Lane "put his hands on Mr. Floyd, and pulled him out of the car". Then Mr. Floyd began actively resisting handcuffs.

A Protester And A Police Officer Today In Fargo. This Is What Solidarity Looks Like
Once handcuffed, however, Mr. Floyd became compliant and Mr. Lane explained that he was being arrested for "passing counterfeit currency".
But when officers tried to put Mr. Floyd in their squad car, a struggle erupted.
At around 20:14, Mr. Floyd "stiffened up, fell to the ground, and told the officers he was claustrophobic", a transcript released by authorities explained.
Mr. Chauvin arrived at the scene. He and other officers were involved in further attempts to get Mr. Floyd in the police car.

At 20:19, Mr. Chauvin pulled Mr. Floyd out of the passenger side, causing the man to fall to the ground.
As he lay there, face down, still in handcuffs, witnesses started to film Mr. Floyd. He appeared to be in a distressed state. These moments, captured on multiple mobile phones and shared widely on social media, were Mr. Floyd's last.
As officers were restraining Mr. Floyd, Mr. Chauvin placed his left knee between his head and neck.
"I can't breathe," Mr. Floyd said repeated, pleading for his mother and begging "please, please, please".
Mr. Chauvin kept his knee on Mr. Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

As much as this little girl is more empathetic than most adults these days (as almost all children are until puberty), it is wrong to involve a her in adult matters. Especially this. It is surprisingly and extremely easy to shelter her from the news. We may think that it is okay, that they need to know and they will find out anyway, but that is not true. Instead we are providing them with individualized trauma with our own hands.

George Floyd was a career criminal who died needlessly at the hand of a police officer who also made a mistake and will also pay for his crime.
About 6 minutes into that period, Mr. Floyd became non-responsive. It was approximately then when Mr. Floyd fell silent and bystanders urged the officers to check his pulse.
One of the other officers, JA Kueng, did exactly that and said he "couldn't find one". But the officers did not move.
At 20:27, Mr. Chauvin removed his knee from Mr. Floyd's neck. He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center in an ambulance and was pronounced dead around an hour later.

From The Raleigh Protest
On Friday, Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman charged Mr. Chauvin with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. His bail has been set at $500,000.
Mr. Floyd's family and their attorney, Benjamin Crump, are upset that Mr. Chauvin wasn't charged with a more serious offense.
"We expected a first-degree murder charge. We want a first-degree murder charge. And we want to see the other officers arrested," Crump and the family said in a statement. "We call on authorities to revise the charges to reflect the true culpability of this officer."
If convicted of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, Mr. Chauvin would be facing up to 25 years in prison on the first charge and up to 10 years on the second.
Mr. Freeman said charges against the other three officers are likely.

A GoFundMe campaign dedicated to George Floyd has raised more than $7 million.
George Floyd's brother, Philonise Floyd, organized the fundraiser, which is called the Official George Floyd Memorial Fund. According to the page's description, the funds will be used to cover funeral and burial expenses, grief counseling and lodging and travel for all court proceedings.

Now, after tens of thousands of people flooded the streets across the United States, after buildings were set on fire and businesses were looted, President Trump has criticized the unrest, and Attorney General William P. Barr warned people that contributing to the destruction could make them face federal charges. Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota said the people who are defying curfews and trying to instigate police were no longer protesting police brutality, but rather seeking to exploit Mr. Floyd’s death for their own political motives.

Is it encouraging or annoying of me, as a white woman, to say something supportive to any black person I encounter? I don't want to bother someone in the middle of a store or "single them out" for being black, but I also don't want to ignore the situation.

I have no issue with people protesting but I do have a problem with the riots. The riots are just an excuse for thugs to get away with looting, assault, arson etc. By all means make a stand and support the cause but destroying innocent by standers, businesses, homes, lives etc is not the way to go. It also doesn’t help support the cause with all the violence and criminal activities. On another note, the law enforcement need to be held more accountable. I have heard too many incidences where innocent people of colour have been treated shockingly by authority and society in general. Too often they get away with it and enough is enough. Black lives matter.

I am doubtful that any of these actions will have a lasting effect. Alas. As the scholars say, racism in the US is institutionalised. It starts with small things. One example: whenever I take a survey that had been designed in the US, I stumble across "name your race: Caucasian, African Asian". Drop that s**t! Race theories are disproven for decades, we are all humans.

Admittedly, I can only go by the surveys that I've seen in the UK but I do think they can serve a purpose. For example, the NHS uses ethnic monitoring surveys. Helps to ensure that the NHS is meeting the needs of all ethnic groups. For example if X% of the population is of X ethnicity - is a similar percentage making use of the services available? If not then it can be explored to see if they are unaware or unable to access the services and why. Or knowing how many people will speak a particular language and making sure that there is accessible information and staff who can talk to them. These aren't about preventing racism or making it worse but about ensuring people's needs are met.

This would have never escalated to this point if the Minnesota police had done the same as the officers shown here. Instead they fired tear gas and rubber bullets into a peaceful protest because of their own irrational fear of retaliation.

I love this. But f**k the rioters and looters. They are only using the unrest in this time to be criminals and hurt people and their property. I can't believe that people are so selfish as to use a genuine tragedy to make the world a worse place than it already is. I really hope the police can differentiate between the peaceful protesters and the violent anarchists, because otherwise this could turn into absolute chaos.

While I am deeply moved by acts of solidarity and peace during protests, I am slightly disturbed that people are disregarding social distancing. Yes, making your voice heard and standing up for the oppressed is important, but remember, we're still in the middle of a pandemic. We don't want to hurt those who have already been wrecked hard by Covid-19 even more by unintentionally spreading the disease.

I feel like this issue is so deeply partisan its impossible to get reliable reporting on it. As a conservative, I've seen videos pushed by conservative pages on Instagram or conservative news outlets showing rioters smashing vehicles, stealing weapons, and assaulting officers. But I've also seen the police brutality videos of officers attacking people and without context, its incredibly difficult in both cases to determine whose in the right and whose in the wrong.

No one is anymore, it's bigger than just seperate individuals. The system is broken though. Police brutality towards POC is an issue in the US that is backed by numbers and can be traced back to a bigger institutionalized problem. That doesn't make any particular cop the problem, it makes the system the problem and it will take a whole country to change it.

Can I ask, what is the hope for these protests? Besides spreading the word? Or is spreading the message in fact the premise? I'm genuinely asking, because I care and want to understand. I understand protesting where you want a specific decision changed, but I think I'm struggling to understand the 'outcome' of these protests. The police going to jail that murdered George? I hope I'm explaining my question well. I mean, racism won't disappear overnight (unfortunately) so like what would people want exactly to end the protests? Just a generalized movement to end racism? I hope I am not offending anyone by asking. I want to understand and learn more about this, and would genuinely love to talk about it.

Fair questions. On an overarching basis I suppose I think about what would the likely outcome be if there were no protests. Would there be any possibility of true justice or would the killers quietly get away with their actions? With the world's attention on you it is much harder to get away with things. How do you campaign for change - and change is clearly needed - without protests? It is all too easy to ignore people unless you make it impossible for them to do so. On a specific basis? Lock up the men responsible and with Derek Chauvin in particular leave him locked up. Bring in tougher consequences for racism. Ensure that every incident of police brutality is properly investigated and stop all the cover ups. Hope that makes sense - I've only had one hour's sleep!!

Great photos but PLEASE stop feeding into the narrative of the media as our enemy. Because of 45, the media, which is an essential part of our democracy, is being targeted at these protests. Journalists are being shot in the head and throat with rubber bullets in uncounted numbers, even on air; are being arrested and targeted for tear bas and flash bang grenades. They are out there helping to keep us functioning as a free country. It's lazy and too easy to say "the media" isn't doing their job. The key element in all these posts is SOLIDARITY. Regardless if racism in the US is systemic or not, we all need to work together to eradicate it, everywhere. (Agree that those opportunists who decide to behave criminally-thieving and destroying property- after such a tragedy should be condemned- their actions are not hurting 'the system' but rather fellow citizens).

I can't speak for other towns and cities but the coverage here in Los Angeles County has been extensive, both the good and the bad. So I was aware of the clean up efforts by protestors and how some protected businesses.

There is no problem with protesting! Anyone can do it. The problem with this is that there are people who think it is a chance to cause mayhem. I live in Washington and I heard this story about these white girls tagging a Starbucks. This elderly black lady comes up and asks why they are doing this. "They will just blame us!" She said, shocked that these self-righteous jerks were doing something so evil. They just ignored her and finished the job, walking away when they were done. Don't. It's not ok to take advantage of this.

I agree with Peaceful Protests are good. Not so much for looting and violence. Black lives matter, and awareness of being kind to others. Remember George Floyd by being kind to other people. I feel the World is heading to a recession, and there is still some trouble re COVID 19. You all need to forgive, stick together, show care and appreciation. You might need each other in the future. World affairs are changing rapidly, and you need to restore America. I hope they pass a law in Parliament against Police Brutality. Please finish with the protests being peaceful and heard. Stop riots. George wanted Love and Kindness. The Family are still stressed, so bring about some Calm. I pray for you.

In 1968 the Kerner Commission was appointed to look into the causes of that summer's riots (the worst before these days). They got it right- systemic racism and discrimination that kept people trapped in poverty. The report deplored a common reaction to riots: arming police officers with more deadly weapons to use in heavily populated urban neighborhoods. There's 2 sections to the protests, those asking for the police to be a better force and asking in a passive way and those using this time to commit crime, some of which is organised crime using it as a cover to do things they would normally have a greater chance of being caught doing.

I was so glad to see police officers supporting the protesters and walking with them. These photos also made me want to cry because of the emotional damage people are experiencing. It is heartbreaking to have to worry about oneself or one´s family being killed by a police officer solely based on your skin color. To help prevent more racist people from leading our country, during this year´s election, we need to really look into candidates and laws to help out minorities and elect people who stand with them.

I commented already, but I must do it again: Apparently my first comment came off as argumentative and for that I am sorry. I believe that these protests are necessary because the only way change happens is by making your voice heard. The rioting, looting, and burning is wrong and those people have no right to be doing that. This situation is about police brutality and human rights. The police kneeling shows that they have solidarity with the average person and that is awesome to see. We as a society need to focus on the people who are protesting peacefully and less on the people who are using this as an opportunity to be rowdy. At the end of the day, we need to remember a man lost his life.

WOW, such propaganda. Sure, you might be able to get some photos of the few cases where in the daylight their are people doing good, but how about showing the destroyed buildings, the black police dead in the streets, the businesses of both black and white people being utterly looted and their livelihoods destroyed? Where are all of these Black Lies Matter moments? Again, it is propaganda to make it look like this is what is really happening. I am not saying these are not real photos, but with over 1700 violent protests across America over George Floyd, who by the way was a horrible thug, these photos are few and an attempt to cover up the hate that keeps happening every day. For every photo you show with a police officer being guarded or hugged, a police officer has died due to these protests. Also, how ironic, people HAVE TO PROTECT AN OFFICER? Why would they HAVE to do that if it is all good and peaceful?

"...that the Mainstream Media is reluctant to share" is maddening but unfortunately not surprising. "If it bleeds, it leads" is an old motto in journalism. A couple of years ago, a Black Lives Matter group in Wichita, Kansas was planning on holding a regular demonstration. But the leader of the group had a different idea – why not hold a picnic and invite the entire community, including the police? They did, and it was a great success. One young Black man said he never thought he would have a pleasant lunch sitting next to a cop, but it happened. I read this story on an international news website (RT.com) and did a search to see where else it appeared. I could only find it on a Wichita news website and a St. Louis, Missouri news website. The mainstream media must have known about the picnic but chose to ignore it. They must publish news of racist incidents, but by deliberately choosing not to publish hopeful news like the Wichita story and images like the ones here, they are part of the problem of systemic racism in the U.S.

I'm crying... this was so wholesome and I'm glad I got a chance to see a part of the world that I know is there but is always hidden from me. I'm black and this is easing my mind - we really are all one race - the human race. We all bleed the same blood and cry the same tears. We breathe the same air - and when one of us says they can't, we fight for them. This is beautiful. These are steps toward peace. I personally encourage peaceful protesting, but I understand the rioters - at least the ones who are rioting for Floyd and all the others and not just as a chance to destroy. I don't condone it, but I understand it. That being said, I broke down at the sight of all this kindness during hard times. Bringing people together instead of tearing us apart. Shows that not everyone is an enemy. Many are allies - When I tell you I'm crying during a meeting - and it's the ugly cry too. <3 Love, peace, and good fortune to all of my brothers and sisters out there - all skin colors, all features <3

I love seeing posts like these, but I'm wondering if the pictures of cops kneeling, marching, and putting down their batons were checked. I'm in NYC and unfortunately the police have been making these grand "peaceful gestures" to use as propaganda. Minutes after kneeling, getting up and spraying and detaining peaceful protesters. They're doing it to get the pictures out there to make them look good. I've made this mistake of sharing what I found later to be propaganda and want to share the word that we should all be cautious when posting these kinds of photos.

These pics show that there are good cops out there, they must have their heads in their hands over the rotten ones. Perhaps they come from precincts where anti racism is inculcated from the top. But otherwise, good the ones in precincts that sanction racism must come forward and speak out or it will never change. Investigations into cultures of racism must be national, international, and given teeth, or nothing will change, they'll just wait for the furore to die down then back to business as usual

What is needed, is a few moral minded leaders (mayors, police chiefs, sheriffs, etc) to stand up against the need for this action. The protesters never appear successful, because they are blocked from confronting the intransigent, continuously-reelected politicians directly, by public safety personnel. For example, had Seattle's mayor not directed police forces to block protesters from direct action towards G-20 in '99, the world might have changed. Many other examples exist. As a former elected official who encountered numbers of protesters in my home town while in office, I met them face-to-face, and solved what I could. When I couldn't, I pointed fingers and named names. My political career was cut short because I told the truth and never took bribes. Only when the rank-&-file officers realise that they are being treated as mercenary troops and not with respect, then they will see how these protesters are their neighbours, not their enemies. -Rev Dr M

By the way, I've seen no evidence that the media in Minnesota is reluctant to share such images and stories. In fact, with MN nice, they are pushing it a little too much. Our own governor simply couldn't believe that many of the people driving around with rocks ready to throw were from MN at first. It's hard for us to think of Minnesotans that way (which kind of shows he's NOT racist because a racist person would have zero problem imagining all kinds of crime being done by our black neighbors).

Unfortunately, people have two choices: 1) Speedy arrest, or 2) Likely conviction. They don't get to choose both. But the BLM always presses for the first. The prosecutors always say they're going for the second one and then we have protests. BLM MN doesn't listen to reason on that topic ever, not that they don't have other legitimate gripes. Great post, indeed. I applaud these brave men and women protesting what should have ended long ago!! However, people seem to forget the mainstream media is supposedly the very people who purport to support an end to racism. Instead, they continue to minimize great stories such as the above and fan the flames by only showing the rioting and looting. Why? Simply because of ratings - all for money folks! Don't think for a split second that the mainstream media (overwhelmingly liberal) cares an iota about ending racism or improving the lives of minorities. I can't speak for every city and news outlet; however, here in Houston, TX CBS, and ABC local news have shown people cleaning graffiti and cleaning up at their own free will. Media is not tur ing a blind eye to it. Media is focused on the protest, what it stands for, what it doesn't stand for, and what the response has been.

While the intention is beautiful I think the kneeling photos got to me the most. The stance that was taken from kneeling by Colin Kaepernick was seen as disrespectful to our military when that was never his intention. The kneeling was meant to bring attention to these types of issues and prevent the situations with rioting that are taking place now. The man had the platform to make change that just so happened to be on a football field. So the photos of those kneeling, while beautiful is also to me a slap in the face. I think those that are out their rioting and looting are not there for the same reason the protesters are. And i 100% believe that people where put there on purpose to start chaos to deflect from the reason this is all happening. Sadly this will change nothing not because i dont want it to but, the US will always be a divided country whether or not its political, gender based or racial division its like we get off on hating people we dont know for know damn reason.

I don't think all hope is lost. It will take a lot to change the system, but I'm still optimistic that it's possible. I'm quite certain that whoever wins the next election will not be the one to be able to do that. But with a bit of luck, the winner will be one to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Yes, it's a big hope. But it CAN be done, and it needs to start with a sticking to the already-existing laws. Murder is murder, no matter the colour and the money in your pocket. There is a LOT wrong in the US, but I'm still hoping for a happy future

The police of Minnesota, after their investigation, cannot in good conscious, charge Chauvin with anything higher, and even then Murder 3 is probably not going to stick anyway, much less 1st Degree. The charge of Murder, Murder 2 or even Murder 3 requires clear pre-meditation in the crime, the assailant needs to have a clear and ready motive to intentionally want to kill someone. While the incident was tragic, the officer was not preforming a routine stop to kill a black man. He used excessive force yes, but he was following police procedure when dealing with an unwilling detainee. He didn't need to hold Floyd down that long, no, but people need to realize in the last ten years police, mostly good cops who don't do illegal s**t, have been murdered by people, a disproportionate number of them Black people, for the precieved notion that the system is rigged, despite crime statistics collected by both conservatives and liberal polls have pretty much corroborated each other.

And anyway, even if he's not convicted (which will not happen, the media seeing to the entire country being poisoned so he'll never get a fair trial at all.) the officer's life is completely and utterly ruined, he's lost his job, lost his pension, lost his wife, more then likely will lose his home with how divorce courts work, if he has any family, he'll probably lose them too, and he'll probably never be able to work again. Lose or Lose, Chauvin will live worse then how Floyd has passed. Though making him a Mytar for a cause I doubt he even cared about, which has now devolved into thuggery might not be a legacy he wanted either.

I have no issue with people protesting but I do have a problem with the riots. The riots are just an excuse for thugs to get away with looting, assault, arson etc. By all means make a stand and support the cause but destroying innocent by standers, businesses, homes, lives etc is not the way to go. It also doesn’t help support the cause with all the violence and criminal activities. On another note, the law enforcement need to be held more accountable. I have heard too many incidences where innocent people of colour have been treated shockingly by authority and society in general. Too often they get away with it and enough is enough. Admittedly, I can only go by the surveys that I've seen in the UK but I do think they can serve a purpose. For example, the NHS uses ethnic monitoring surveys. Helps to ensure that the NHS is meeting the needs of all ethnic groups. For example if X% of the population is of X ethnicity - is a similar percentage making use of the services available? If not then it can be explored to see if they are unaware or unable to access the services and why. Or knowing how many people will speak a particular language and making sure that there is accessible information and staff who can talk to them. These aren't about preventing racism or making it worse but about ensuring people's needs are met.

While I am deeply moved by acts of solidarity and peace during protests, I am slightly disturbed that people are disregarding social distancing. Yes, making your voice heard and standing up for the oppressed is important, but remember, we're still in the middle of a pandemic. We don't want to hurt those who have already been wrecked hard by Covid-19 even more by unintentionally spreading the disease.

I feel like this issue is so deeply partisan its impossible to get reliable reporting on it. As a conservative, I've seen videos pushed by conservative pages on Instagram or conservative news outlets showing rioters smashing vehicles, stealing weapons, and assaulting officers. But I've also seen the police brutality videos of officers attacking people and without context, its incredibly difficult in both cases to determine whose in the right and whose in the wrong.

Police brutality towards POC is an issue in the US that is backed by numbers and can be traced back to a bigger institutionalized problem. I understand protesting where you want a specific decision changed, but I think I'm struggling to understand the 'outcome' of these protests. The police going to jail that murdered George? Fair questions. On an overarching basis I suppose I think about what would the likely outcome be if there were no protests. Would there be any possibility of true justice or would the killers quietly get away with their actions? With the world's attention on you it is much harder to get away with things. How do you campaign for change - and change is clearly needed - without protests? It is all too easy to ignore people unless you make it impossible for them to do so. On a specific basis? Lock up the men responsible and with Derek Chauvin in particular leave him locked up. Bring in tougher consequences for racism. Ensure that every incident of police brutality is properly investigated and stop all the cover ups. Hope that makes sense - I've only had one hour's sleep!!

There is no problem with protesting! Anyone can do it. The problem with this is that there are people who think it is a chance to cause mayhem. I live in Washington and I heard this story about these white girls tagging a Starbucks. This elderly black lady comes up and asks why they are doing this. "They will just blame us!" She said, shocked that these self-righteous jerks were doing something so evil. They just ignored her and finished the job, walking away when they were done. Don't. It's not ok to take advantage of this.

In 1968 the Kerner Commission was appointed to look into the causes of that summer's riots (the worst before these days). They got it right- systemic racism and discrimination that kept people trapped in poverty. The report deplored a common reaction to riots: arming police officers with more deadly weapons to use in heavily populated urban neighborhoods. The Media, especially the U.S. media, is to blame just as much as the Establishment for the division in the American society. There's 2 sections to the protests, those asking for the police to be a better force and asking in a passive way and those using this time to commit crime, some of which is organised crime using it as a cover to do things they would normally have a greater chance of being caught doing.

I was so glad to see police officers supporting the protesters and walking with them. These photos also made me want to cry because of the emotional damage people are experiencing. It is heartbreaking to have to worry about oneself or one´s family being killed by a police officer solely based on your skin color. To help prevent more racist people from leading our country, during this year´s election, we need to really look into candidates and laws to help out minorities and elect people who stand with them.

I commented already, but I must do it again: Apparently my first comment came off as argumentative and for that I am sorry. I believe that these protests are necessary because the only way change happens is by making your voice heard. The rioting, looting, and burning is wrong and those people have no right to be doing that. This situation is about police brutality and human rights. The police kneeling shows that they have solidarity with the average person and that is awesome to see. We as a society need to focus on the people who are protesting peacefully and less on the people who are using this as an opportunity to be rowdy. At the end of the day, we need to remember a man lost his life.

WOW, such propaganda. Sure, you might be able to get some photos of the few cases where in the daylight their are people doing good, but how about showing the destroyed buildings, the black police dead in the streets, the businesses of both black and white people being utterly looted and their livelihoods destroyed? Where are all of these Black Lies Matter moments? Again, it is propaganda to make it look like this is what is really happening. I am not saying these are not real photos, but with over 1700 violent protests across America over George Floyd, who by the way was a horrible thug, these photos are few and an attempt to cover up the hate that keeps happening every day. For every photo you show with a police officer being guarded or hugged, a police officer has died due to these protests. Also, how ironic, people HAVE TO PROTECT AN OFFICER? Why would they HAVE to do that if it is all good and peaceful?

This would have been a lot more positive and compelling if all the passive aggressive remarks about 'the media' had been left out. Bored Panda is 'media', too, and it covered it, as have a lot of other media outlets. If it hadn't been covered by somebody, we wouldn't be seeing it here.

"...that the Mainstream Media is reluctant to share" is maddening but unfortunately not surprising. "If it bleeds, it leads" is an old motto in journalism. A couple of years ago, a Black Lives Matter group in Wichita, Kansas was planning on holding a regular demonstration. But the leader of the group had a different idea – why not hold a picnic and invite the entire community, including the police? They did, and it was a great success. One young Black man said he never thought he would have a pleasant lunch sitting next to a cop, but it happened. I read this story on an international news website (RT.com) and did a search to see where else it appeared. I could only find it on a Wichita news website and a St. Louis, Missouri news website. The mainstream media must have known about the picnic but chose to ignore it. They must publish news of racist incidents, but by deliberately choosing not to publish hopeful news like the Wichita story and images like the ones here, they are part of the problem of systemic racism in the U.S.

attacking "The Media" is counterproductive. Where did these images appear? In media. Reddit is media, Facebook is media, NBC (which you quote) is media. Teaching people to mistrust media is divisive and self-defeating. Without media, nobody knows anything. Without media, there is no "Bored Panda!"

I'm crying... this was so wholesome and I'm glad I got a chance to see a part of the world that I know is there but is always hidden from me. I'm black and this is easing my mind - we really are all one race - the human race. We all bleed the same blood and cry the same tears. We breathe the same air - and when one of us says they can't, we fight for them. This is beautiful. These are steps toward peace. I personally encourage peaceful protesting, but I understand the rioters - at least the ones who are rioting for Floyd and all the others and not just as a chance to destroy. I don't condone it, but I understand it. That being said, I broke down at the sight of all this kindness during hard times. Bringing people together instead of tearing us apart. Shows that not everyone is an enemy. Many are allies - When I tell you I'm crying during a meeting - and it's the ugly cry too. <3 Love, peace, and good fortune to all of my brothers and sisters out there - all skin colors, all features <3

I love seeing posts like these, but I'm wondering if the pictures of cops kneeling, marching, and putting down their batons were checked. I'm in NYC and unfortunately the police have been making these grand "peaceful gestures" to use as propaganda. Minutes after kneeling, getting up and spraying and detaining peaceful protesters. They're doing it to get the pictures out there to make them look good. I've made this mistake of sharing what I found later to be propaganda and want to share the word that we should all be cautious when posting these kinds of photos.

These pics show that there are good cops out there, they must have their heads in their hands over the rotten ones. Perhaps they come from precincts where anti racism is inculcated from the top. But otherwise, good the ones in precincts that sanction racism must come forward and speak out or it will never change. Investigations into cultures of racism must be national, international, and given teeth, or nothing will change, they'll just wait for the furore to die down then back to business as usual

At some point in these mass protests, police and military personnels need to decide which side they are on. The question is …. What is needed, is a few moral minded leaders (mayors, police chiefs, sheriffs, etc) to stand up against the need for this action. The protesters never appear successful, because they are blocked from confronting the intransigent, continuously-reelected politicians directly, by public safety personnel. For example, had Seattle's mayor not directed police forces to block protesters from direct action towards G-20 in '99, the world might have changed. Many other examples exist. As a former elected official who encountered numbers of protesters in my home town while in office, I met them face-to-face, and solved what I could. When I couldn't, I pointed fingers and named names. My political career was cut short because I told the truth and never took bribes. Only when the rank-&-file officers realise that they are being treated as mercenary troops and not with respect, then they will see how these protesters are their neighbours, not their enemies. -Rev Dr M

The premise of this article is false. I have seen many of these images already and both CNN and MSNBC have covered the positive interactions between protesters and police. The mainstream media is not at all reluctant to show this side of the story.

By the way, I've seen no evidence that the media in Minnesota is reluctant to share such images and stories. In fact, with MN nice, they are pushing it a little too much. Our own governor simply couldn't believe that many of the people driving around with rocks ready to throw were from MN at first. It's hard for us to think of Minnesotans that way (which kind of shows he's NOT racist because a racist person would have zero problem imagining all kinds of crime being done by our black neighbors).

Unfortunately, people have two choices: 1) Speedy arrest, or 2) Likely conviction. They don't get to choose both. But the BLM always presses for the first. The prosecutors always say they're going for the second one and then we have protests. BLM MN doesn't listen to reason on that topic ever, not that they don't have other legitimate gripes. I'm from the twin cities, fyi.

Great post, indeed. I applaud these brave men and women protesting what should have ended long ago!! However, people seem to forget the mainstream media is supposedly the very people who purport to support an end to racism. Instead, they continue to minimize great stories such as the above and fan the flames by only showing the rioting and looting. Why? Simply because of ratings - all for money folks! Don't think for a split second that the mainstream media (overwhelmingly liberal) cares an iota about ending racism or improving the lives of minorities. News coverage of these events unequivocally confirms this!

Not buying it. All this police kneeling seems disingenuous. The same police kneeling here will be complicit in the system put in place to keep the public scared and in line. They're the ones who stand by while people of color are maimed and murdered by authorities. Or at best chewed up and spit out by a justice system that completely lacks any real justice.

I'm weary of all the "What the media won't show you" comments. Most of the Right doesn't trust any media and it seems statements like this are being geared towards Democrates to sow distrust in the media as well. I can't speak for every city and news outlet; however, here in Houston, TX CBS, and ABC local news have shown people cleaning graffiti and cleaning up at their own free will. Media is not tur ing a blind eye to it. Media is focused on the protest, what it stands for, what it doesn't stand for, and what the response has been.

While the intention is beautiful I think the kneeling photos got to me the most. The stance that was taken from kneeling by Colin Kaepernick was seen as disrespectful to our military when that was never his intention. The kneeling was meant to bring attention to these types of issues and prevent the situations with rioting that are taking place now. The man had the platform to make change that just so happened to be on a football field. So the photos of those kneeling, while beautiful is also to me a slap in the face. I think those that are out their rioting and looting are not there for the same reason the protesters are. And i 100% believe that people where put there on purpose to start chaos to deflect from the reason this is all happening. Sadly this will change nothing not because i dont want it to but, the US will always be a divided country whether or not its political, gender based or racial division its like we get off on hating people we dont know for know damn reason.

I don't think all hope is lost. It will take a lot to change the system, but I'm still optimistic that it's possible. I'm quite certain that whoever wins the next election will not be the one to be able to do that. But with a bit of luck, the winner will be one to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Yes, it's a big hope. But it CAN be done, and it needs to start with a sticking to the already-existing laws. Murder is murder, no matter the colour and the money in your pocket. There is a LOT wrong in the US, but I'm still hoping for a happy future

The police of Minnesota, after their investigation, cannot in good conscious, charge Chauvin with anything higher, and even then Murder 3 is probably not going to stick anyway, much less 1st Degree. The charge of Murder, Murder 2 or even Murder 3 requires clear pre-meditation in the crime, the assailant needs to have a clear and ready motive to intentionally want to kill someone. While the incident was tragic, the officer was not preforming a routine stop to kill a black man. He used excessive force yes, but he was following police procedure when dealing with an unwilling detainee. He didn't need to hold Floyd down that long, no, but people need to realize in the last ten years police, mostly good cops who don't do illegal s**t, have been murdered by people, a disproportionate number of them Black people, for the precieved notion that the system is rigged, despite crime statistics collected by both conservatives and liberal polls have pretty much corroborated each other.

And anyway, even if he's not convicted (which will not happen, the media seeing to the entire country being poisoned so he'll never get a fair trial at all.) the officer's life is completely and utterly ruined, he's lost his job, lost his pension, lost his wife, more then likely will lose his home with how divorce courts work, if he has any family, he'll probably lose them too, and he'll probably never be able to work again. Lose or Lose, Chauvin will live worse then how Floyd has passed. Though making him a Mytar for a cause I doubt he even cared about, which has now devolved into thuggery might not be a legacy he wanted either.
