111 Times Neurodivergent People Memed Their Experiences Instead Of Overthinking And Hyperfixating
When you're neurodivergent, your brain works a little bit differently from others. It might be a bit busier, louder, and more/less focused than others'. Research shows that about one in five people in the world are neurodivergent. And we here at Bored Panda think that they should be represented appropriately in the meme world.
Recently, we went through the most popular neurodivergent meme spaces on the internet, like r/autismmemes, r/OCDmemes, and the Neurodivergent Squad page on Instagram. We collected the funniest and most relatable ones and put them all together in this list. Check them out and let us know how many made your neurodivergent brain tingle!

I Mean It Kinda Make Sense
Not Getting Diagnosed As A Child
Add in other people telling me all of that, and that's my childhood - the darker side of the 1980s. Still not diagnosed as, at the age of 52, it doesn't really matter any more - I stopped caring about people calling me "weird" a long time ago.
It's Just Our Signs 😆
Executive dysfunction because of autism? Nah, constant daydreaming because Aquarius.
When You Got Some New Information On Your Special Interest
This Is So Real
Happens so many times. Others have a sense of how to immediately continue the conversation flow seamlessly. By the time the conversation stops long enough that I could add what I had, it’s turned to a whole new direction and what I had would be out of place.
Seeking The Truth Is My Passion
💯. It's OK if I learn I was wrong. I'm about *what's* right, not *who's* right.
Found This Meme
You get brought up to keep everything inside, don't be weird, don't be bothersome, shut up already.... and now I'm practically emotionally flatline. I feel things, but only within myself. And mostly irritation. The emotions I do make visible are mostly fake, a mimicry of what others are doing (because being 😐 all the time makes people say some quite insulting things).

My doctor says not to listen to the voices in my head. The voices say, "Take your meds!" : - )
Someone, Please Relate
If I'm forcing myself to look at your eyes while you're talking, I'm concentrating too hard to take in what you're saying.
Me When The Intrusive Thoughts Hit
I have a one line nonsensical ditty I use to break a chain of intrusive thoughts. Unfortunately, for me it works better if I say it out loud.
I Have To Be Invited. Like A Vampire. I Have The Vamptism
If I Had A Penny For Every Time I've Felt A Diagnosis Test Was Oversimplified I'd Have Three Pennies, Which Isn't Much But It's Weird That It's Happened More Than Once

The Autistic Experience Described In Fine Style
Sad doggo is sad. I just wanna be there for the good girl/boy and tell them, "Hey buddy, you're not in trouble. It's all good." And administer lots of pats and cuddles.
Society: "Follow Rules!" Also Society: "Not That One You Idiot!"
No joke, once my friends and I were having a particularly intense vent/dump session, and since I'm not very good at interjecting, I just raised my hand when I had something to say. It worked. (I love my friends.)
I Speak The Easiest Way Possible And Still People Imagine Stuff I’ve Never Said 🥲
And Please Not The Big Light First
I'm not convinced that all of us know how light switches work. We probably all know how to operate a light switch but how it works... that's a question about electrons and photons and physics and engineering. Off you all go and report your findings in the morning...
This Is What Being Autistic Feels Like
What's Your Safe Food? Mines Fish N Chips
UK. Heinz Baked Beans and Sausages on toast. Until the swapped to Richmond sausages. I bought a tin after the swap. It's been maybe 2 years now? Still haven't been able to bring myself to try.
Please Tell Me I’m Not Alone
Coat hangers, they usually fall to the floor, gets tangled up with other coat hangers etc. Really inferior design!

If you're talking intrusive thoughts, you're spot on. Mostly I do it because of my ADD need for stimulation.
Everything Has To Be Perfect
When You’re Autistic But Everyone Calls You Fake Because You’re Also A Pretty Girl
Pretend I Wrote Something Funny
When I was 4 years old I solomly went to my mother to explain that I had a wheel from my Matchbox car stuck up my nose and couldn't get it out. She counted the 4 wheels on the car and told me I was wrong. This went on for around 3 hours. Back and forth back and forth between 4 year old me and mother. I eventually got frustrated and shouted "STEERING WHEEL" and then off to A&E we went to get it removed. It had broken off from inside the toy car and had been stuck up my nose the whole time. I was utterly, totally and perfectly correct that I had a wheel up my nose and genuinely couldn't understand why my mother didn't care. This is what it's like. (I say this for those of you here to try and understand).
I Think We Can All Relate 😅
Is this a neurodivergent thing? I nearly k****d myself this way but thought I was just overthinking
True!
Just understand that Humans, like Chimps, are selfish jerks. That explains EVERYTHING
Autism 🤝 Adhd 🤝 Every Pd In Existence
I Feel Like You Guys Can Appreciate This Very Cool Stick I Found
When You Ones Again Take It Differently Than Intended
Let’s Add This To The Bag Of Misunderstood Phrases
Thought You Guys Would Relate To This :))
So true. I'm autistic. My son thinks I'm extremely funny, but only because of things I don't mean to be funny. But I'm old enough now that I'll understand after the fact why he thinks it's funny, so I'll get a laugh out of it, too. But my intentional jokes are so weird only my late father and Carl from middle school ever thought it was funny.
Bummer
Dyscalculia Here 🙌
Dynamic Duo

Looks perfect to me, even if I don't think I'm autistic, just a bit introverted.
Easy To Say
I Can't Fit In Anywhere
I Hate This
This is basically every show. If the characters communicated clearly and honestly, there'd be about 98.37% less drama
I Thought My Fellow Autists Would Appreciate This
I do things like this too. THIS is the text for TSA. You need to organize collored lozenges correctly and answer a bunch of stupid questions while in a dark room and cant look at the second person in the room. After I did that interview I lost my taste for Federal Service. Its joining a cult.
This One's Too Relatable
My ADHD means I often don't prioritise eating until it's half ten, I'm tired, and it's bedtime. So I'll look at the larder full of food and the freezer full of food and determine that there's nothing to eat because there's nothing that can be thrown together in five minutes because I'm too tired/lacking concentration for anything more. Add to that my "no, that's not right" rejections and...my evening meal is a cup of Bird's custard made in the microwave.
Electricity Go Eeeeeeeeee
I don't know how to describe the sound of electricity but I do know that I can hear a power outage before I even look to see if my clock is on.

Cats Are Great
I had that thought also. What cat do you know that does something without rhyme or reason. I never question that my cat has a reason for what she does. I might not understand it, but that's not the cat's problem.
Doesn't Everybody Do This?
Seriously Tho Why…
Me
Yep. I always position myself so that anything moving, changing, etc. is in my field of view. Why wouldn't I?
Oh My God, Please No
I hope it's got a reliable power supply then because my brain never stops.
I Think This Goes Here
This Is So Real, I Have To Know Why. Why This, Why That
Not enough people ask "why?". I think this world would be very different if asking "why?" and awaiting a correct coherent response was normal human behaviour.
This Is Absolutely A Thing
The post forgot to add that the secret set of rules is unique to every neurotypical.
Please Tell Me Someone Is In The Same Boat As Me
Or have ADHD so there's no particular special interest because by the time something is understood well enough, it's boring, time for something fresh and stimulating. I'm very good at beginning projects, very bad at finishing them. I have a big ghost painting that is coloured plastic beads to stick on top. It's cute, I like it, there's something like ten *thousand* beads that get placed one by one. I'm permitting myself to eat Maltesers as I work on it, so I'm basically bribing myself with a forbidden food so I don't give up partway through.
Dermatillomaniacs Rise Up
Eternally Nauseas
I regularly remind myself that what other people think of me is none of my business. It's helpful on occasion, but I'm hoping I'll get better at believing it.
You Can Actually Take It Since You Want It So Bad
Unfortunately This Has Happened To Me A Few Times
I have a "going to bed" and a "going to work" checklist, just to make sure the doors are shut and locked, fridge is shut, heater is off, etc etc.

I Thought Yall Would Relate This Too
People have told me my whole life that I'm an 'out of the box' thinker.' Each time I think, 'What box are they talking about?'. True story.

Excuse Me What
Yup
And the Playmobil classroom! Anyone else ever get pulled out of class to go act out scenarios using Playmobil (or equivalent) toys with a random lady? Yet again I ask myself, how the h*ll did I get through school undiagnosed?
Which One Of Us Was It Huh?
Emotional weight versus physical weight and the fact that the English language has hundreds of thousands of words yet a startling ability to be imprecise and inspecific.
Can't Stop Picking My Skin, Never Going To Heal
I often pick at my skin until I bleed. I have (basically) wounds of varying stages of healing. My mom sometimes sees my hands after I've ripped myself open and am actively bleeding and she'll say "omg, doesn't that HURT?" yes. yes it does. that is the point. The pain silences the screaming in my head for one brief moment.
Breaking: Neurotypicals Discover Autistic People Can Feel Emotions
That this is even in question is disgusting and shows the uphill battle neurodivergent people have due to neurotypicals completely and totally misunderstanding. I mean, think about it - what's the logical thought process? That neurodivergent people feel and express their emotions differently? No, they went straight to "they don't have those emotions". WTaF? That headline is the start of undoing an insidious pattern that is really quite awful and never should have happened in the first place. 🤬
Autism And Repeating Songs.. Is This A Sort Of Stimming?
Amateur. Up the list managed 272 times. I'm sure some of us have a number so l large it can only be expressed as "new song arrives at top of most played list".
I Feel So Seen
Imagine a man in his mid forties who has lived with over 18 different cats since he was born. Now imagine they all, every single one of them, got fed with the same fork. (It's me. My first cat Timothy was part of my family before I was. I still have that fork.) It is the cat food fork. I don't need any more cat food forks because that one works fine and always has.

I Swear I’m Just Autistic
I've had store security stand next to me as I was looking at an item. After two or three minutes, they just walked off. Still don't know why.
Do You Have Any Snacks You Like Not Because Of The Flavor But Because The Texture Is Nice?
No Cuz Literally (Found On Instagram From Ocdestigmatized)
Last year in Sydney I got off a bus because the bus driver was fụcking hooning with an overcrowded bus and I was not enjoying the ride being thrown around like that. Oh, the conversation I had with him in my mind!

Fear Named Eternal Condemnation And Torment:
You think that's worst? Have you seen the other place? Both are eternal suffering, one just doesn't try to hide it.
Not that many posts here about OCD, but it got me thinking. I am autistic with a lot of ADHD "features" (per the psychologist), but I'll take that over having OCD. It just sounds like they are being constantly tortured from the inside out.
Yes, we really are. I've been in therapy for years now and it's a neverending battle.
Load More Replies...From what I've seen, most commenters were simply relating/not relating to the memes, sometimes talking about an experience. I don't know about you or the other people, but I came here to entertain myself with memes that I assumed I was a target audience of. Some were funny, some were not, some were misconceptions, some were relatable, some were not, but I appreciate the fact we can talk about our differences and conditions openly. It doesn't mean I think I have superpowers.
