The whole social media thing takes time to get used to. Especially if you've spent decades without it, enjoying real-life interactions. And the Facebook page 'Old people comments' perfectly illustrates this transitionary period.
As the name suggests, it collects various phrases the elderly have said online, and the beauty is that a lot of them are unintentionally funny. Whether they're trying to speak directly to the software or just simply oversharing, who knew that you don't have to dig too deep to unearth such comedy gold. It's right there in front of us.

An elderly person poking a keyboard only to end up angry and/or confused is a well-worn stereotype. And the media usually only contributes to its spread, depicting them as hopelessly struggling to use any device.
While pages like 'Old People Comments' are often designed to be humorous, they can involuntarily undermine the people they feature. And, according to Carolyn Wilson-Nash, a lecturer of marketing and retail at the University of Stirling, and Julie Tinson, a professor of marketing at the same establishment, that's a problem if it turns older people off from trying to engage with the digital world. Especially in times of difficulty.
"Older adults are already at a digital disadvantage: 18% of over-65s do not have internet access," the academics wrote in The Conversation. "Propelled by enforced isolation, older people increasingly turned to technology during the pandemic, but not all were able to connect or communicate with friends and family via the internet."

Why is this a funny old person comment? 🤷♀️ It's a Fantastic comment ❤️ My father who I think would be a little younger than the lady in the photo, was homophobic and I could never come out to him. After I was adopted at 7 (lil sis was 5) about a yr later our mom adopted an 8 yr old pug. Her thought was that she may live a few years, teach us responsibility and the process of losing an animal.... She was put to sleep at 18 since she was starting to lose control of her bowels... She was almost completely blind, deaf, and losing her memory, but so full of life still. I was pssd. We had talked about the possibility of doing it as a family soon...came home from school one day and mom and step dad had done it without us. That was MY dog! After the 1st yr she finally started warming up to me. She slept in MY room, on MY bed...on MY face! I fed her. I was walked her. I took care of her. Nope. You won't be involved in our decision even after we talked about it. Just gona do it! But...at least she was 18 when she passed. It was 10 wonderful years!

I'm sorry. I know that hurts. I couldn't be there when my kitty was put down. We had 'adopted' him from under my aunt's porch at like 2 weeks old, when I was 2 years old. He and I were best friends. When he was around 8, he lost his teeth and became diabetic (more on that in reply). We gave him insulin and tested his blood. At 10, his belly got swollen and he couldn't hold his pee. His bladder was the size of a grapefruit. He needed to be put down. I was in school and couldn't leave to say goodbye. I regret not fighting harder on that. I hope you and your parents have worked it out.

Ah, illiteracy, my favourite thing to judge somebody by. I don't care about race, sexual preference, fetishes, favourite animals, music, bad habits and all the rest, but I am very severely judgemental when it comes to grammar, spelling, sentence structure and all the rest. It is literally the only thing that annoys me, but only with native English speakers. If English isn't your first language, I'm cool, but for people that speak, read and write in English as their first language... I have no mercy.

Probably got sick of autocorrect, I can relate. Surprisingly, it's working at the moment though.
But not all elderly people have this kind of network of support, even though they can benefit most from greater use of the internet and keep loneliness at bay. In these situations, initiatives run by charities such as Age UK, where digital champions can help older adults master technology, can be invaluable.

Well, there are still a few cultures that chop people's hands off for stealing. If I was the Prime Minister or something and was to combat stealing, I would just allow the victims to go into the thief's house and steal/break whatever they wanted. That way, they would be too traumatized to want to steal again. I would bend all the rules so that they benefit the innocent and poor but make life harder for the criminals and rich, as all laws should be.

With a new device, software and apps they know and understand can be downloaded so that it feels less like an outsider. Similarly, if someone finds a touchscreen problematic, they should know that they can use a keyboard and mouse instead.

I used to be a Tupperware salesperson in the 90s and had acquired A LOT of Tupperware. One day, about 10 years later (lifetime warranty!), I started noticing horrible plastic out-gassing smells. I started going through all of my Tupperware and found that most of them smelled. If they had food in them, the food smelled. I threw all of the food out, washed everything, used all of my trained "tricks" for getting the smell out. Nope, wouldn't go away. Interestingly enough, all of the Tupperware I had from the 60's that belonged to my grandmother, were all fine. So I piled them all up (neatly) on the dining room table and contacted Tupperware. They sent over a local rep who took one look at my collection and bolted. She said she couldn't help me. Multiple contacts with the main company were ignored as well. All of my Tupperware was in very nice condition. It just smelled really bad of old rotting plastic. But they would not help me. At all. Ignored me. Threw it all out.

Yup. Friend of a friend wants to be a customs officer to keep out immigrants. Firstly it's not their job, secondly your surname is Russo and your wealthy arms dealing dad came over to UK in the second world war because he didn't like being on the recieving end of his business

This is an interesting list but they're not all 'seniors', some look 30-40 years old. Also, some of these aren't cringeworthy or funny, particularly the one where someone tells someone to be proud of himself for coming out - what's funny or cringeworthy about that?! Sort your list names

What on Earth was this about?? Not as titled and shaming of peoples Internet skills. I'm disabled and find social media and the Internet confusing to downright bewildering on some days. All ages can struggle with the Internet and all ages have people that are absolute online wizards. Some people type in all capitals as it's easier for them but the most puzzling one was the older lady being so happy about that person coming out. That's Fabulous not bad! She looks from her photo to be a few years older than my late father who was so homophobic I could never come out to him. So why the hell is her brilliant post on this thread?? 🤷♀️

My mom says she doesn’t like all the people who try to befriend her on Facebook. They are her real friends and she’s mad at them. She just wants our baby pics and updates on Shelties.

Way back in the dawn's of time before agism was so bad and wholesale as it is now, this 63 year old was at the forefront of computer programming, database design and data analysis. Now retired, I engage myself with Blockchain technology and reading heinously agist articles written by morons.
