Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, certain events are simply outside our control. Some people might say that is just how life works, while others may blame karma coming back around

Many would call it luck and accept that fortune seems kinder on some days than on others. Judging by the costly damage in this list, these people were definitely having a rough time with it.

Was Mad Because I Thought I Chipped/Broke My Favorite Cologne Bottle Until I Realized What Actually Happened

A small bottle of Dior Fahrenheit cologne held over a sink with a black stain, an expensive mistake.

I’ve dropped Fahrenheit before and broke bottles previously - it’s my go to since middle school in the 90s so statistically things are ‘gonna happen’ I suppose. I thought when I dropped it in the sink, that the black spot there was a chip from the bottle somewhere … split seconds later I realized my mistake. it’s a nasty little hole.

Already ordered a porcelain repair kit. Gonna give that a shot before I have to ask management how much a new sink is gonna cost me.

On the positive side, my bottle of cologne is juuuusssttt fine so at least I smell nice while I cry.

Just as there are symbols believed to bring good fortune, there are also plenty of superstitions linked to bad luck. In parts of Eastern Europe, returning home after forgetting something is considered unlucky unless you look in the mirror before leaving again.

Meanwhile, the number four is often avoided in China. Some buildings leave it out of their floor numbers, while many people also avoid having it on their car plates or in their phone numbers.

Did the people behind these expensive fails forget to look in the mirror? Did the number four appear somewhere at the worst possible moment? We will probably never know why fortune decided to treat them so harshly.

It is easy to assume that some people are naturally lucky while others are destined to keep running into trouble. However, research suggests that luck is not a personality trait.

Essentially, as Forbes explains, lucky people often take calculated risks and create more room for good fortune to find them. This can happen in many different ways. They might speak up during a work meeting or pitch a creative idea to their manager instead of keeping it to themselves.

They may also be more likely to start a conversation with a stranger or travel somewhere new. Bad experiences can still come their way, of course. Yet by placing themselves in new situations, they also give more interesting and positive experiences a chance to happen.

None of this changes how painful these expensive mishaps must have been, and fortune was clearly nowhere to be found when they happened. Still, Wiseman’s findings suggest that dwelling on misfortune can make it harder to notice the next opportunity.

The best these unlucky folks can do now is learn what they can, take steps to avoid another disaster and move forward. Hopefully, luck will be a little kinder to them next time.

Paint Store Guy Didn't Close The Can Properly

An overturned can of white paint spilling inside a car, an expensive mistake and accident.

Bought a car one week ago, more expensive than I could really afford but so beautiful. Picked up paint while on vacation to paint my mom's house. Teenager working at paint store apparently didn't close the can properly. That's 1 gallon of slightly greenish gray wall paint on the floor of my new car. Paint store guy's response was to apologize profusely, give me another gallon of paint, and throw in a free tub of miracle wipes. Lovely.

I'm more concerned about the placement of the dollar sign in this post. For the record, it should read $800, not 800$. I see this a lot and I don't understand why. It's taught in school as $800, or $800.00. In fact, every store, sign and advertisement has and still uses the widely accepted practice of the putting the dollar symbol BEFORE the dollar value.
