But while online shopping is ridiculously easy these days, the delivery part? Not always so smooth.
Sometimes your order takes forever to show up. Sometimes the delivery driver launches it over your fence like it’s a frisbee championship. And sometimes, believe it or not, your package might get lost in the ocean or show up looking like someone took a few bites out of it first.

The Way My Local UPS Simply Refuses To Knock On A Door
I was waiting for this package listening for the door when I got the notice UPS had "attempted" to deliver my package. I swear the driver must have sprinted away from my door. It was a tiny package too, so no real amount of effort was saved by doing this instead of just taking 10 seconds to deliver my package. This is the 3rd time the local UPS has pretended to try to deliver something that required a signature.

Oh I had this with UPS, saw on the security cam after (I was at home) they said online they tried to deliver. The driver pulled up, waited 20 seconds and drove off, not even getting out. What is more, is they told me I couldnt choose my reschedule time bc I needed the notice number on the slip the guy never did. I told them if it wasnt delivered next day I would report it stolen by the drive with the footage. They delivered next day, left it on my porch, even though it required a signature, never rang or knocked, just left it there. I hate UPS

I am not in favor of people losing their jobs, but this person needs to have his boss see how poorly he is doing his well-paid job. If he gets fired I am sure there are many unemployed people who would be happy with a paycheck and more than willing to wait for you to answer the door

Only happened once, but the UPS driver marked "customer refused delivery", so my package got sent back. At least with this you can pick it up, or get another chance at delivery.

My local Fedex driver does this as well. When something I ordered is a little heavy and/or needs a signature I get the "undeliverable will try tomorrow". No notes on my front door or anything. I have three separate cameras at the front of my house. I saw him drive up to my house and parked in his Fedex van. After 3 minutes of nothing happening he just drove off. Never even got out of the van. The picture they are supposed to take to prove they tried to deliver was a fuzzy picture of my package in the back of his truck. lol worthless.

Packages vanish into thin air, boxes arrive looking like they survived a tornado, or they end up on someone else’s porch entirely. To find out what really happens behind the scenes, we spoke to Ashok Chahun, a seasoned delivery partner from India with over eight years in the game and plenty of stories to tell.
“People think it’s always our fault when something is late,” Ashok says. “But come on, your new phone is coming all the way from Europe! It’s stuck in customs, then stuck in a warehouse, then I finally get it days later. By the time it’s my turn to deliver, everyone’s already mad at me. My sister does grocery pick up at Walmart. She orders M&Ms in a particular size. Dry are always out and something else gets substituted, not always a different size M&Ms. But when she goes into the store, sweet do usher the size she orders, every time.

Merry Christmas, Here’s Your Gift
I sent my sister a stockpot and claimed other home goods for Christmas (she just got an apartment and has nothing for her kitchen).
She came home to find her package looked like it had been run over. The guy at the front desk who took the package in said the delivery driver seemed supremely uninterested in the problematic package. Getting it refunded and a new one sent over, hopefully in better condition and in time for Christmas.

I’ve had this happen with the post office.🙄No note. Called and the PM had determined it to be “undeliverable”.
And then there are the ‘I paid extra!’ folks. “People love to yell, ‘I paid for express delivery!’ But what can we do if the vendor hands it over late?” Ashok says. “They expect miracles. Some people even threaten or scream at us like we’re sitting on their package for fun. Newsflash: if it’s late leaving the warehouse, we can’t teleport it to you!”
So how do drivers handle all the yelling and blaming? Training! “We actually get trained for this stuff,” Ashok shares. “How to stay calm, how to handle angry customers, when to explain and when to just nod and say sorry. Most of the time, people just want to vent and we’re the only ones they see in person, so we take the heat.”

But when things really blow up? “If a situation gets out of hand, like if someone gets aggressive, we call our supervisors right away,” Ashok says. “They can talk to the customer, fix things, or sometimes just reschedule the delivery altogether. No package is worth a fistfight!”
Of course, Ashok admits not every delivery fail is the customer’s imagination. “Sometimes drivers mess up,” he shrugs. “Like, if your house is on the way home, a few people sneak in a quick pit stop to drop off their own groceries or pick up lunch. It’s not professional and it slows everyone else’s deliveries down.”

I verified with the sender that the address was correct, then went to the post office and they just said there was no information on why it was destroyed, they basically just shrugged their shoulders. Legal requirements. Some package types MUST be signed for. This compounds with postal employees working a route schedule. You get off when your route is done, hence skipping interaction means they get off earlier. It adds up if you have a lot of places you have to wait for them to answer the door.

This happened to my mom. Instead of her full order she got a bag of Brussels sprouts and a receipt with tons of candy and junk food changes to her credit card. They were not the smartest bunch and it took about an hour for a refund and some questions for a report to the police. Not sure what happened afterwards. I believe it was about 60$ worth of stuff so yeah jail for candy.

I live near Toronto (Canada) which is Eastern time zone, same as New Jersey where I ordered a package from. My package went to Colorado then back to I believe Indiana before making it to Canada. Possibly, but I'm skeptical. When ordering things like this online, the card's message is frequently entered on an entirely different screen from the delivery instructions, which are generally a field found near the shipping address fields. An order summary like the supplier would have, on the other hand, would likely be condensed to a single page containing both the shipping instructions on the same page of the summary.

My ordered an antique sword holder made of wood. It was shipped from Japan but when it was in American about to be delivered it was left outside on a pallet in the rain. The box completely disintegrate and it all came in pieces. It had even started to mold. USPS wanted me to send them back the destroyed wet moldy box as proof.

Amazon Mailed Me An Open Bottle Of Conditioner
Warehouse worker removed not only the plastic cap, but also the foil safety seal on the conditioner and packed it in a box with TEN other items including an electronic device. The damages were $200+ and it took THREE separate calls to Amazon to get a full refund. (They blamed USPS even though the box exterior was undamaged and the seals were clearly removed prior to shipping as they weren’t anywhere inside of the box).

I understand Amazon drivers work so so hard and have to meet their deadlines. I feel guilty for complaining because I appreciate them immensely, they’re always friendly and don’t want anyone losing their job— but this is not okay. I live in a very very secure apartment building. My AC broke and it’s crazy hot where I live, so I felt safe enough to have my front door 1/3 open for air. I work from home, so I was in my kitchen working. My kitchen is very close to my living room so there is no way I wouldn’t have heard a knock.
I walked into my living room and saw my package on my ottoman! I was so confused for second and then I realized someone would have had to walked into my home to put it there. For a moment I completely panicked and felt unsafe- like is someone in my home right now? Did someone look around? I have a camera at my front door, and thankfully it appears the delivery man took about two steps inside and put it on my couch and left, but still. There’s no way he could have just reached his arms to put it on my ottoman. I mimicked the delivery and he would have had to step inside. My order status says it was delivered to my “front door or porch.”
Entering someone’s home is trespassing, it’s illegal, and although I don’t think the delivery person meant anything bad by it- you can’t just enter someone’s home! I honestly felt frightened for a moment. If it wasn’t for my cameras, I’d still feel frightened. He had delivered it 1.5 hours after I discovered it. I know I’m stupid for leaving my door open, but that’s still no excuse. He so easily could have just left it on my doormat like Amazon always does.

A couple of years ago, we were in a marina and I ordered several thousand dollars worth of solar panels, controllers, and batteries. "Yodel", the bottom-feeders of the delivery biz in UK, delivered it, and left a picture of the lobby of some random building. The map showed them driving around, so I thought it was in the area. We ended up walking to a dozen different apartment complexes and businesses looking through the glass doors until we saw carpet that matched the picture. Got the stuff, but... a******s.

SO many of these simply confirm the correctness of my decision to never, ever use delivery services like UberEats, DoorDash, or GrubHub. I'll either order food from places that employ their own drivers (still no guarantee, but easier to register a complaint), or go pick it up myself.

You may find this odd, but I have a near 100% success rate with the items I've ordered online, timely delivery and in good condition, and I order things several times per month. Services include Amazon, USPS, UPS, and FedEx. I live one flight of stairs up from ground level and my packages are always left at my front door. I live in a small northern California mountain town so maybe our delivery people aren't stressed like in some big city somewhere, but these delivery horror stories in this post just astound me; can't hardly believe they actually happen but I know they do.

Delta lost my luggage. After a week, they told me it was being delivered. A few days later, a rancher 20 miles from my house called, and told me he had found it in a ditch on the side of the road. When I called Delta to file a complaint, the lady shouted at me "What are you complaining about, you got your luggage, didn't you?!" I've never flown Delta again.

DHL is like this. Those idiots find the most creative way to either destroy, delay, lose or steal your packages. Not to mention threating you at your door when you sent an "anonymous" complaint about them. Last time we had a complaint, the driver most likely got told who said it and we had to call the cops because the deliveryguy wanted "our side of the story" very bad.

I think the experimentation with mass delivery needs to end. I know sometimes it is necessary. When it comes to any food or drink delivery I have to ask. Are you folks F...ing crazy? Why would you have a stranger handle your food? Get out of your home/business and get it yourself! Based on these posts these delivery people need to be put on the unemployment line.
