High school biology doesn't teach guys how to understand women. But it at least gives them an idea of how their bodies work. Pass that and you won't infuriate your girlfriend by telling her to "keep it in" when she asks you to buy her some tampons. Recently, Twitter user @brownandbella asked women to share the most ridiculous things they've heard men say about "sex, reproductive health, menstruation, etc" and BOY did they deliver! As of this article, the thread already has nearly 20K upvotes and over 3.5K comments, many of which will make you wonder if men are really that stupid or are they just being dicks. Maybe the first, maybe the latter, maybe a bit of both.

Sabrina45X Report

Almost a quarter of men have admitted that they have "no idea" what a pelvic floor is or what it is supposed to do. About 1 in 20 believe it's just another name for your pelvis and some even think it's a dance move. A new study has confirmed that men really are clueless when it comes to their female partner's body.

RELATED:

The study, released by pelvic floor experts INNOVO, found that nearly 4 in 10 men don't feel comfortable talking to women about it, too. 4 in 10 men also admit they have no understanding about the health issues their wife or girlfriend faces and are stumped when it comes to the length of their period.

The same magical 4 in 10 men don't feel comfortable talking to women about intimate health issues and as a result, more than a third try to avoid all conversations with their partner about subjects such as periods, intimate screening tests, and even sex.

"Intimate health issues can be a difficult subject for many to discuss," Jane Wake, women's health and fitness expert, said. "'It may be funny to think men have no idea what a pelvic floor is or does, but it's a subject which needs to be taken seriously – especially as men also have a pelvic floor and can suffer the same problems as women."

Jane added that both men and women find it embarrassing to discuss their private health concerns with someone of the opposite sex, even if it is their own partner, but that being as open as possible with each other is the best way to gradually break down the taboo.

Lots of people saying they don't know how many she would need as it might affect blood quantity, flow etc. Erm....whatever the gravity conditions, your period is only ever around 40ml of blood, and your uterus is only ever around 7x4 cm if you aren't pregnant - there's only so much womb lining it can contain. To produce enough blood for 100 sanitary products she'd pretty much have to bleed out.

Remember our bodies undergo sliiiiiiight changes while space travelling. Maybe they can affect blood quantity too? I don't think so, but, yeah, better stay safe, and bring the rest back with you, or leave it there for immergencies and future pilots.

Interestingly, there could be something to this. 🤔 DOES zero gravity effect the flow rate? Other liquids suspend in space. I'm kinda curious now. Are they still normal or does it effect it? I hope Google can help on this one, lol.

In all fairness. They probably had no idea how the extreme conditions of outer space/space travel would have on her cycle. It could very easily have caused spotting, heavier bleeding, or no bleeding at all. Better to have to many then not enough. It isn't exactly like she could just go to a local store if she ran out.

You can read the instructions on a box of pasta, even if you have celiac disease and even if you are not a chef. You don't need to have a uterus to read the instructions on a box of tampons either. You just need the willingness to do so.

This is funny, but not something we should insult men for. I'm having a period right now and I've already used over 50 tampons. If I was in space...I'd want more. You're away from the planet. What if you're anti-gravity tampon insertion skills are a little off. What if you like wings and one of them rips off, what if you drop one in the wrong place? This is not something to insult men for. Say it with me...Thanks for caring!

Did they ask which type, brand and sizes should be on hand? On a more serious note, how would a period work in microgravity? Without the forces of gravity to help the uterus expel the unused uterine liner, would a regular 4-day period end up longer? Would cramps be better or worse? If it was me, I'd try to skip a period so I wouldn't have the problem.

well... once I had a really really bad peiod, like.. I almost died after it, because of loss of blood during that, I was unable to use tampons, because after 10 minutes they were full... I must go to the pharmacy and bought diapers for adults, because anythig else was just waste of time.... hormonal injection doesnt work... so After that (it lasted 2 weeks!!!) I colapsed in hospital, stop breathing and then ended up with two units of blood and one unit of plasma and months of medications

To be fair...even asking would not be exact. So, someone averages a certain amount, but in space things in the body changes in ways that may be unpredictable. So, maybe things get worse for her and she uses more, maybe things get drastically better. I think it was probably smart of them to plan for extra, since going to the store isn't exactly an option if she runs out.

Look, to be fair, nobody at that point in time, had a freaking clue as to what was going to happen if her period were to suddenly start in space. They weren't necessarily asking simply because they didn't understand the biology of it all. they just didn't have the understanding of how space was going to effect her at the time.

This reminds me of something I read last week (and it's not the same thing at all because this is a young child, but it made me giggle just as much): A young boy found a box of tampons in the house and asked his mom what it was. She explained women put it in their vagina during their period. Then he asked "so how many do you have to put in? Oh, I see it already says here on the packaging: 24". I see a future at Nasa for this kid haha.
