All of that happens to men too, from having an abusive male boss like talking to the point of being considered "gossip". The thing about attracting the opposite sex has a more psychological explanation. Men do not tend to attract women frequently, it is difficult to see a boy who has several girls in love, while on the contrary, it is very common to see girls who have many boys in love, it is the most usual. That is why the man who falls in love with more girls is usually admired, because it is something f*****g difficult, while a girl is not usually seen in the same way because it is something that is usually easy for the opposite sex. A boss orders people without any insight or opinion from the people a leader takes into consideration all of the people's opinions and thinks of an effective way to go about doing it. A basketball player vs an editor in chief is not a good analogy.

Because... due to the inherent differences in male and female beyond the physical, these straw man situations are more likely to represent attendant behavioral differences and not necessarily double standards. Other members of the animal kingdom exhibit similar (male/female) differences in "social" interaction and they aren't judged for "double standards".

One time I overheard my coworkers talking and these two guys were discussing about "girls who put makeup are so insecure, it's like they couldn't even go out without makeup if their life depended on it". Then another day in the same week, I was so tired I decided not to put makeup. The very same guy saying this was like "omg what happened to your face?". Yeah no wonder why women are "so insecure"...
