Equality is humanity's Holy Grail, the cornerstone of most value systems, but we have yet to reap all of its rewards. Sure, our society has tremendously evolved for the better during the last, say, 100 years, but a long journey is still ahead, and the vast array of double standards that still divide people to this day highlight this perfectly.

The double standard definition states that it is a rule or a principle applied to different people or groups. The most prominent case of double standard examples to this day come from gender equality. What's usually okay for men, is not acceptable when done by women. Starting with beach attire and ending with lady bosses, society finds unnecessary ways to chime in about what's wrong and what's right.

Bored Panda has compiled a list of insightful illustrations that uncover the uncomfortable truth behind some everyday life situations, and it's (mildly) disturbing how accurate they are. Judging by these images, it's clear that sometimes terms like 'gender equality' are reduced to no more than a catchphrase. Scroll down to see the proof for yourself, and vote for your favorites.

So damn true. One time I overheard my coworkers talking and these two guys were discussing about "girls who put makeup are so insecure, it's like they couldn't even go out without makeup if their life depended on it". Then another day in the same week, I was so tired I decided not to put makeup. The very same guy saying this was like "omg what happened to your face?". Yeah no wonder why women are "so insecure"...

If you're a true pro-life, instead of blaming a stranger, do something towards building a society where abortion is not needed. Same goes for (extremist) pro-choicers - instead of hating on some women's decisions, let's do something towards building society where abortion is not something a womam does because "she had no other choice".

Well you're free to do it. But people are also free to not find you attractive then. But there are all kinds of things people find attractive and not attractive so I don't really see a problem.

The second one will always be an idiotic statement, for both male and female. I hear it a lot, yet don't understand why it's a race to get intimate with another person. It's a personal experience and (can be) something special, on top of that: It's none of another's business, and if those think it is, they're the ones leading a sad life. Sure, the term "Lucky at cards, unlucky in love" is on it's place in this regard, but luck can switch lanes now and then.

Yes, that should be the comparison here. You're right. Thing is -- when majority of women are blamed for sexual assault, do you think men stand a chance of getting the proper treatment as SA victims? No way! If women can get better respect, not victim blamed, then so can men. One step at a time. But yeah... men need to be able to report this crime, too, and not feel least bit at fault. Let's work towards that.

This is true. Though if a man is sexually harassed plenty of people refuse to recognise it for what it is. If a woman says a stranger groped her crotch, we understand she might have been traumatised by it. But if a man says the same thing we just assume he must have liked it and he should be happy for some free stimulation. Especially if the attacker was a woman that was at least half-decent looking.

I think its because its more common that women get raped nowadays. And women are losing less and less rights to step forward too bc everyone says "she's probably just lying" because of all the fake accounts from others. I wish they'd just do a full investigation for both genders instead of saying they're faking.

As a victim of female on male sexual assault throughout much of my formative years, and someone who has been kicked in the balls more than once, let me say that these are nowhere near equal. After 30 years, My balls feel fine but I am still dealing with the effects of the sexual assault. Of course, when girls get assaulted it is a travesty and needs to be dealt with. the same if a man assaults a boy but when a woman assaults a boy it is different. Because he is male then obviously he wanted to get laid as all males, especially young ones, do. That is the true double standard we overlook in society.

This isn't even close to relevant. If a man gets groped by a woman and doesn't like it he is called gay. It's considered funny or sexy when a woman forces herself onto a man, but it's creepy or scary when it's the other way. So in short, f**k you

It's victim blaming. A women can protest to sexual assault and be bombarded on how she was not wearing the 'proper' clothing, but a man can say that he got kicked in the groin without recieving that. The 'why weren't you wearing a cup' was sarcastic because it never happens in real life.

I mean, these are kinda both on the same level, considering that on the second one, a person gets their balls kicked. Balls are a sexual part of lots of animals, to provoke pain and to stun an individual. However groping is messed up either way, regardless on who you are, groping is forcefully touching a sexual part for a long period of time to get pleasure for yourself (or others), but it shouldn't ever be done to anyone.

The problem here is that the woman is being blamed because a male couldn't control himself and touched her inappropriately. She is told to wear different clothes. It wouldn't matter to some men what she had on they would still grope. It's the same as a female rape victim being told she asked to be raped because of what she was wearing and blaming her because a man can't control himself.

I don't think this comparison works. I think most men would be perfectly fine with a woman groping them. I'm not trying to trivialise sexual assault, but the two are not comparable.

We were playing around, play fighting when I kicked my husband in the balls. It wasn't on purpose and I instantly felt horrible as he spent about 5 minutes in pain on the floor. The worst he got me was an elbow to the nose that caused a nose bleed, and one where he slammed my back into the thermostat. Literally last week my husband asked "Why don't we wrestle anymore" and all that flashed through my head. I don't like the idea of women hitting men any more than a man hitting a woman. The only fighting I am okay with is play fighting.

I don't agree with this one. Men get a lot of pressure on their bodies, as much as women. There is not a single person I met who said that they should "accept themselves" as a way to solve their problems (with getting laid). On the same note, any magazine cover will show that makeup is not a way to solve problems, or there wouldn't be 254 pages of the "new amazing diet already used by 45 stars that will make you lose weight before you even realize it". And we also have countless articles on "accept yourself and screw who doesn't, you don't need them anyway"...
