US Health Care Workers Are Reporting Their Salaries Being Cut Due To Coronavirus
In pictures, front-line medical workers are rendered anonymous by masks, gloves, and medical suits. Just like superheroes. But contrary to their animated peers, they have no special powers. It’s easy to forget that saving lives, in the end, is just a job. And there’s a private life left behind all the coronavirus chaos.
As if it wasn’t hard enough already for ER personnel, one for-profit health company, reportedly, decided to cut down salaries. Cameron Beach, a concerned daughter from Illinois, shared the hopeless situation her ER doctor dad found himself in. Her tweet soon went viral with 55.8K retweets and 219.9K likes, and many joined the heated discussion. Some people even said the same thing had happened to them. Let’s dive into the thread down below.
Daughter Cameron tweeted about a hospital cutting down her dad’s salary, and it went viral

Twitter user Keith said that the reason for cutting the pay is illogical at this point

Business Insider reports that most ER providers in the US work for staffing companies that have contracts with various hospitals. Amid the coronavirus crisis, hospitals have no choice but to postpone elective procedures and non-coronavirus patients tend to avoid the ER altogether. As a result, these companies are now losing revenue and looking for other ways to tighten the belts. Unfortunately, it may include benefits, paid time off, and salary cuts for medical workers.
But Scott Hickey, the president of the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians, warned that “these actions are unacceptable and unnecessary.” In a statement, he urged medical staffing groups to keep workers employed with federal support, as well as payroll relief and paycheck protection through the CARES Act. “We cannot afford to jeopardize the health of our patients by having understaffed emergency departments.”
Others claimed it’s the flawed American health care system which is to blame

Share on FacebookTell me how much a socialist healthcare system is wrong. Then read these statements again. The USA has a broken healthcare system, a broken economy and a broken government. The Covid-19 pandemic is bringing to light all of the flaws of our society. What good is freedom when your basic right, the freedom to live, comes under threat everyday by greedy narcissistic and uneducated people bent on their own well-being instead of those they were hired to protect.
The sad thing is that you will all wait until there are a lot of dead people before doing anything to change the way things work. Where were the demonstrations and demands of reform when Al Gore was passed over by Bush? Then it happened again with Hillary and the Orange. Where were the actions to change the way votes are counted or the issue with the electoral college system? Something needs to change or this will keep happening.

Totally agree everyone at my hospital is taking a pay cut/reduction in hours for the same reasons. In fact some staff has been laid off but the salary adminastration still works and gets paid the same total BS
Load More Replies...I'm only a lowly person who works in a supermarket in the UK yet my company are paying us £25 a month extra on top of our standard wage and giving us 25% discount off our food shops. If a retailer in the UK can treat it's staff with humanity in this time of crisis, regardless of profit, then the US hospitals should be able to do the same and more for their staff!
Pffft LOWLY???? You never were, and now you are as vital as all the other unsung heroes (cleaners, delivery personnel, retail workers etc) putting themselves in harms way for the benefit of everyone else. I've seen so many with no masks or sneeze guards or gloves, I hope you're protected and taking good care of yourself, glad your supermarket is ponying up and I hope you come through unscathed. XO from Australia

I also know that if and when I am a patient the first priority is always going to be finding the best treatment for me rather than what treatment I can afford or what my insurance company is prepared to cover.
Love the NHS. Only ever had excellent health care from them. I have had treatment after a car accident and two separate operations that were not urgent but necessary to improve my day to day life. In all cases the staff were wonderful and the care top level.

Load More Replies...This is the problem with hospitals being for-profit entities. Health isn't like selling guns or butter... if you're dying, there is literally nothing you won't pay, which is horribly where the American system has gone. But the business model that makes this system is horribly flawed too: hospital owners get to make unethical decisions because they don't line up with brand instead of what is medically appropriate (sorry Catholic hospitals... sometimes women miscarry and you need to stop being moral mosters and help). Hospital owners and the insurance industry in the US need to find ways to help instead of profit.
Here we go once again... I remember being told 'f*ck off, twat!' here before for sharing my opinion that US health care system is not the best in the world and really should change. Are those people honestly that blind? :( I hope this pandemic is gonna make them realise that universal health care system is a good thing and I wish luck to everyone outside there - to those in front lines and to those who fight with the virus within their own body!
Murica' f****d yeah? im glad we have healthcare literally nearly everywhere else. can we call america a third world country now?
Yes, you can. You can also say that besides Corona, there's another disease that has infected more than half the American population. It's called ETAD Extreme Trump Adoration Disorder and the synptoms are: numbness of the brain, severe allergy for any fact that proves Trump is failing, very limited eyesight which makes it impossible to see what's really happening and a compulsive need to constantly shout 'Fake news, Not what he said, Would have been worse under Obama, Trump 2020, leftists are crazy."

I hate that everything is revolves around money and money is power and controls everything. The rich greedy continues to focus on their profit. We need to stop supporting some companies because of this. Look at amazon for example. He fired all the workers that were concerned about their safety. We need to stop helping the rich get richer. Forget celebrities, singers, buying unnecessary things. Focus on being a better person. Be kind and respectful to one another. Be thankful for essential and healthcare workers. Appreciate one another and life. Anything can happen
This whole situation is a tragedy in slow motion that treats lives as currency. Americans are cruel, selfish, and stupid when it regards anyone but themselves. Those who are financially secure and have insurance are content to let literally THOUSANDS die, because the death of millions is a statistic. The GOP (Greedy Old People) continues its relentless march toward Theocratic Dictatorship while the Democrats cheer them on to rake in donations. This country is broken. Many of US will be broken, and the worst part is knowing that despite the graft, corruption and banal evil that's not even ATTEMPTING to hide... nothing will change. I hate the country I was born in, and I hate the people I'm forced to call "neighbor." There are good, caring people here, but it's in spite of being Americans, not because of it.
We're asking ourselves that. Then, I see our Replutocratic party, and realize why...

I have always said it's called "Essential workers" because calling "Dispensible Workers" wouldn't look good. If you don't believe me explain why "Essential workers" are least paid in the most organizations?

So not only are nurses paid a really low wage (with the result that noone want to do the job, anymore) hospitals are so understaffed that we have severe hygine issues due to the resulting lack of time. Now, that the s**t is hitting the fan, I am very curious to see what the discussion will be like, after Corona. Currently,, the suggestion is to pay a single bonus of 1500€ - which is just laughable. But at least we have a lot of ICU beds in this country. I hope they'll be enough.
remember when trump was about to get elected people says they would move to Canada… no one did it… i guess many regret it now.
If Canada would have me, I'd move there in a heartbeat. Fun fact, a large swath of my ancestors came to the US from Canada.

The last comment, about the CEO forfeiting his salary to pay his workers, is a good example of how a capitalist can still retain their humanity. Like FDR said, “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much. It is whether we provide enough for those who have little“.
So if they all get together and quit in troves, what will they do then? There are more of us than the people who sign our checks. They need us more than we need them. Remember that.
Yeah, and when this crisis ends, these people will go elsewhere... what then? Never stay with a place that doesn't value your service in times of trouble.
Somebody should play Abba's Money, Money, Money... It's so funny.
It's immoral that US health care companies are allowed to be for-profit. It creates a conflict of interest. Sadly, there are CEOs and other high-level execs of non-profit hospitals who also make obscene amounts of money.
And that is why I am glad I live in a city with 3 great hospitals all of which are non-profit....supported by several local & regional clinic systems (mostly non profit) and where most are insured by local/regional HI (again mostly non-profit) Wealth isn't a decision driver here when it comes to health.
this seems like it should be illegal! they need to get bailed out like wallstreet!
The Orange Ogre and his fellow tools of the 1% will bail out the mega-corporations and the super-rich at the expense of everybody else. We need to fight back - with our ballots.

Think about this. The virus started in China. They lied and hid whats going on with it. They could have contained it. They let it spread hoping it would cripple the American economy and America will come crawling to them to borrow even more money to pay for all of the stimulus bills that'll be passed. Conspiracy? It's the perfect plan for world domination!
