While it’s easy to judge parents for all of the wrongs they do when it comes to making their kids behave, it’s once you become a parent yourself that you understand that there’s a spectrum of what’s actually wrong and what’s still kinda sorta OK because otherwise you’d crack under the pressure of parenting.

One of the many things that most parents resort to, though still with a certain degree of caution, is white lies, which are, if anything, cute and kind of a long-term investment that will end in laughs in the future.

A tweeter by the handle of @Lhlodder shared one such lie that her friend uses to make her kids buckle up for the car ride, saying that the car won’t start unless they are all wearing seat belts. This inspired others to share their white lies, whether they're the ones duping or the ones who were duped.

Bored Panda has collected the best of the best tweets from the thread and created a neat little curated list for y’all to enjoy, so go vote and comment on them. And while you’re at it, share some of your cutesy white lies in the comment section below!

I told my daughter she had to eat as much vegetables and fruit as she ate junk to counteract the junk food. She'd fill up on fruit and vegetables and be too full for any junk food. I think that's why she's a vegetarian now too

My girls were about eight before they could cross a street without holding the hand of an adult. They never asked about rules or anything, that's just how things ARE.

Years later, the kids grow up to become adults supernaturally attuned to hearing the sound of slow-moving ice-cream trucks without the little jingle playing that it drives them crazy. Yep, I see your point.

The ice cream from trucks are generally a lot more expensive. Just ask a parent/guardian for ice cream from the store. It's cheaper and better quality.

We have a sandwich van comes round to the local businesses. Recently he has gone from ice cream van music to a rather jangly version of "food glorious food". I am tempted to go out to tell him "well, you've changed your tune!".

I've heard another story about parents that told their kids the ice cream truck was a "church truck," and it was driving around playing music so it could round up all the kids in the neighbourhood and take them to church, and thus ensured their kids never wanted to go near it.

If you are over 45 and from the UK you will know the joke that when ever an emergency vehicle speeds past with its siren on......"He's never gonna sell any ice-cream goign that fast!"

When I was 8 years old I started earning money by helping around around the house (organizing books in our library, washing all the baseboards, etc) because I wanted to save up to buy ice cream from the truck just once, until my mom found out that it was my motivation and took my savings away. I was devastated! Granted, I only had about $1.50 but still.

Just have to set ground rules. You can have ice cream on Saturday and Wednesday. Then that's it. That's the rule. Enforce it, and the whining will stop.

LOL one of my friends legit still thought that. We were 18 years old!!! lol her mom had told her that!! My mom told us that McDonald's wasn't a real place, it was just a TV show (this was in the 70's) and wed drive by one and she'd tell us "that's where they film the show" lol. Cut to: I end up working in film production and I'm on a McD's commercial and there actually is a fake McD's that they film the commercials at lol

My mom used to just tell me that it was the music man, I didn't know it wasn't an ice cream truck until I stayed at a friends house.

What a bunch of AH parents. It was a special treat to get it from the GHumor driver. many times we did not have the change "ready" and they would have to wait for next time. Or the answer was not this time. But allowance was allowed to be spent and sticky messes were to be made and then washed off with a squirt from the cold hose. Some fun memories were made those days.

Maybe it's me, but an ice cream truck prowling up and down the street playing that music is just way to creepy. I told our boys its a creeper mobile, not an ice cream truck.

Not too similar but made me think of it as I was the top bunk ( and the older) sister! Our mum used to tell me that it's really bad luck to go to bed with the wardrobes or the drawers in your bedroom left open. Like, you'd get nightmares or just bad luck the next day. So this seemed perfectly rationally to me well into my adult years (I guess as much as any other superstition would) A couple of years ago I asked her where that superstition came from and she said, "oh, it was just to make you tidy up and put everything away before you went to bed." And it bloody worked. I'm in my 30's now and still do it out of habit! Sneaky mum.

in elder days before Netflix and tablets, primitive men, would posses hard copies of movies and music. this primitiv people would sometimes go places were there was no signal and nobody knew what parents and their children did for hours...it was a short and brutish life

Ehm. There actually are cakes which are sensitive to vibrations, no? Loud noises and especially stomping can make them deflate, or am I mistaken?

I don't even see the point of this lie.. he could have just as easily pointed to the engine temperature gauge and said when the car is "in the warm area"...

Eyes in the black of my head trick worked for a while. She would be amazed especially in the car. She did not know i could see her in the rearview mirror. Even when she was still backwards in her car seat.
