Incorrect. This is a dairy farm calf. The calves are raised in doghouse-like shelters with room to stand and walk around. They will either become milk cows or sold for beef or breeding.

The ore we learn about how affectionate cows are, how playful, the earlier we'll see them solely as food and subject them to a life of torture. I really do like to eat meat but I find myself less and less able to eat it.

Dairy cows, especially commercial farms are separated from their moms often less then 24hours after birth, so yes, some of these calves could be dairy cows - if they are female - if they are male...well they aren't bred for eating, so they aren't raised to become a steak, so where do they go? They either go directly to slaughter or they are raised as veal and then go to slaughter - and often herd don't need all the females so a number of them share the same fate. Regardless, they are given a dog house and some have a bit of room to move, more often they don't. It's a cruel industry no matter how you cut - these aren't your grandpa's dairy farm.

This is a dairy calf, in a calf hutch. They are placed in these hutches for the first few months as a measure against disease or infection. Most dairy bull calves are raised as beef or for breeding, with roughly 10% going to veal (and veal calves are usually 5-6 months when slaughtered so more like teenagers, and they haven't been kept in such confined spaces in a long time). Dairy cattle are notoriously bad mothers. That is how they are bred, so calves are removed from them at birth so they can be raised to be healthy (and not have their heads smashed in by irate mothers). You're spreading lies about the dairy industry, and what you spew as 'facts' is laughable and easily busted. PETA is not a good source of info for these things.

How do you know that? Dairy calves are kept in the exact same kinds of hutches for the first few months of their lives to protect them from diseases they can catch from other calves, then they are moved to group pens with other calves of similar age. Yes it is purely possible that this is a veal calf but you have nothing to prove that it is not just a dairy calf.

This is why I'm vegetarian.

I agree. I grew up on a dairy farm, but we did not slaughter for veal. That makes me sick.

Maybe or maybe it is a dairy calf being weaned before it joins the herd. Honestly you don’t know. You are too busy judging. We are friends with lots of dairymen who are good people and take care of their animals really well. I don’t know ANYONE who does what you describe.

Cattle are raised for the sole purpose of being food and are below us in the food chain. I think it would be fine if I wanted a cow fetus smoothie. LOL
