Maybe a bit off tangent, but to me this is another example why segregation - voluntary or not - is BAD for society. Once people have their own bubble ("the rich" in this case) their perspective gets distorted.

I miss the days when everyone looked for the greater good. The US interstate hwy system was actually devised by Hitler, and adopted by Eisenhower. Evil dude(Hitler) great idea that serves all. The EPA was signed by Nixon. The GOP in modern day is just no,no,no when it comes to greater good for all.Imagine this day and age the US interstate sustem being proposed...not gonna happen. There is a reason Governor Milliken in Michigan served 2 terms in a heavy org. labor state. Able to use common sense, irrespective of it's source.

There is some research that indicates that atheists and agnostics overall have better developed ethical systems than religious people, especially as there is nothing like an afterlife or a heaven or a hell to coerce them to be good. They do it because it is right. If anyone is interested, I do have some research on it around here somewhere or 'tother.

Many of Trump's mob had weapons on them, they hurt a lot of people, and yet he pardoned them. Then he besmirched the reputation of Nurse Pretti by squawking that he shouldn't have brought a loaded gun to a demonstration and claimed that's why ICE agents had to kill him. Funny thing there, though, is that it backfired and he now has a lot of his MAGA Second Amendment nuts mad at him for saying that. Trump is just too stupid to think before he opens his orange yap.

I just realised I have never had a gay person come to my house to try to convert me. Come on, you guys - you need to get better organised! ;-) On the other hand, when I lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, headquarters of the Mormon church, you can just guess who was frequently knocking on my door for "a little chat about The Book of Mormon" or telling me I couldn't shop at their stores or be in their Girl Scout Troop because I wasn't a Mormon. Add: OK, terrible confession, so look away if you don't want to be offended. The LDS church requests (if you want to stay in good standing with your ward) that you pay 10% of your income as tithes. Us gentiles (as we were called by the Mormons) used to call the Mormons "scoops" because we figured that God must have scooped out 10% of their brains. Sorry, dear LDS pandas. You can call me a godless heathen.

It's interesting that in the new regime of the US, they are trying to scrub away almost all achievements made by women and non-whites and preventing in many cases their ability to progress. Imagine bringing back yobs to celebrate like Christopher Columbus who was actually a major douchebag. You have to have a teensy-tiny ego to think that just because you are no longer artificially at the top of the heap, that this means that you have been lowered. It just means that the rest of us are now having our achievements and skills recognised. How weak and insecure are you to think that because you are no longer automatically at the top because of your race or gender, that you need to get in the way of or impede others. What a weak, feeble attitude from people who must actually believe that they are where they don't deserve to be.

You will see it on Bored Panda almost daily. As soon as someone criticises the US there is almost ALWAYS someone from the US who will snipe, "Well, why don't you just leave, then." Now that I have moved to France, whenever I complain about something, the French people will jump in and complain just as heartily about that or something else. If they don't like it enough, they will just have a strike. They are FIERCELY critical of their own government and will happily tell you what they like and what they hate, but they know that this doesn't make them a bad French person. It makes them a person who understands that it takes all kinds to make a country and they make room for this and for the opinions of others. Big game changer for me.

There were two reasons my spousal unit and I moved from the US to France, and this was one of them - health care. We are no longer afraid to be sick or injured and don't worry about losing everything if something catastrophic occurs. Plus the preventive care is so inexpensive that we always look around in fear like we are going to be "caught" when we go for an appointment or pay for our medication. Last week my husband ran out of his meds before our scheduled doctor visit and we went to the pharmacy to see if we could get his diabetes meds. They gave us all his medication for free and told us to pay for it when we got the 'script. We about fainted.

This is true. When I moved to California I sold my house and bought my wife a brand new vehicle and paid cash. This j*****s told me it would hurt my credit to buy it in full. I said, no sir, financing this at insane percentages and missing a payment will hurt my credit. Paying in cash it's just hurting your boss. I'd like my receipt please.
