Can piling logs be an art form? Yes, apparently. There are people out there who arrange huge piles of logs into beautiful pictures that will gradually disappear as they are burned throughout the cold winter months.

It can all seem a bit absurd until you realize that, depending on the type of wood and how they’re cut, logs actually present quite the variety of colors and textures for someone with the patience and the eye to take advantage of them. There are even art galleries that have showcased art like this. If you’ve been inspired to create your own log pile art, share it with us below!

I love the trunk held in the middle of the pile, but I fell like I'd be terrified to take off too many pieces! Wouldn't want to be crushed by rolling logs~

Amazing, and the time it took, a great piece of art, with logs from nature. So impressive.

Yes. It's still wonderful - if the logs were already scrap and repurposed as art.

It's called 'The wild boar between the trees', built for the Barriers exhibition at Wanås sculpture Park, Sweden 2015. The importance of such logpiles is not only aesthetic but also functional. It creates insect hotels in our shrinking natural environment.

It's like sand and cake art. The same gets washed away and the cake gets eaten or goes bad. Luckily, pictures make everything live in beauty and our minds for life.

I find this inefficient. Too many are exposed to the snow, meaning more get wet. It's pretty, don't get me wrong, but I prefer beauty when accompanied by practicality.

We seem to have forgotten the point of piling wood. It's supposed to protect the wood from moisture; and this maximizes exposed space, thus negating the point.
