Man Has Enough Of Coworker’s “Health Problems”, Calls Her An Ambulance And Watches Her Panic
Interview With ExpertWhen someone says they’re feeling “really unwell,” who are we to argue? Often, our compassion kicks in. We offer assistance and sympathy in a bid to help them feel better. Maybe it comes in the form of some food, water, or a painkiller. More serious times, we might call an ambulance.
That’s exactly what one guy did for his co-worker recently. Now, she’s upset with him. It appears her constant bouts of illness, to the point that she might collapse, could have been a case of something else that had nothing to do with her health. And paramedics rocking up at the office was not the outcome she was hoping for. The guy is feeling a bit guilty but some netizens say he shouldn’t. Bored Panda reached out to author, professional development and etiquette expert, Rosalinda Randall to get her take on the matter.
His colleague appeared super sick, at least twice a month, and many in the office rallied to help her

But he suspected she might have an “underlying condition” that needed attention, so he called the ambulance

“When a coworker involves you in something, it becomes your business”: an expert weighs in
Rosalinda Randall trains people on how to act in a professional setting. The author, etiquette expert, and professional development coach is skilled when it comes to handling tricky work situations with tact. Bored Panda reached out to her to find out what she thinks of this whole drama. We cut straight to the chase and asked whether the guy’s actions were justified. Or, should he rather have minded his own business?
“When a coworker involves you in something, it becomes your business,” replied Randall, bluntly. “They may not want you to really become involved. All they really want is for everyone to go along with their drama.”
The expert adds that because this “condition” seemed to affect the woman’s ability to stand, someone should have addressed it sooner. Someone like management, she says. “Perhaps deep inside, her colleagues were slightly skeptical about the spells, but were too timid to speak up. Or to come across as insensitive,” Randall pondered.
“In this case, after so many of these precarious episodes, anyone would begin to wonder about her health,” she said. But she cautioned the colleagues about how they handled the situation. “You all took a chance to appease her fainting spells,” noted the expert. “Do any of you have medical training?”
Randall says it’s human nature to be concerned. “However, in this case, the ‘911’ seemed to have a tinge of concern. It was made to catch her at her game,” she commented.
The expert told Bored Panda that she’s curious about why the guy made the call in the men’s restroom. “Why not in front of her?” she asked. “Making the call in front of her could have exposed her, calling off the ambulance, and saving her salary.”
Randall adds that although there seems to be an ulterior motive in making the call, like exposing her fake episodes, there are a couple of steps he could have taken first. These include reporting it to management. “This releases you and your coworkers from any liability or potential blame,” she explains. The guy could have also asking his coworker for contact information for her next of kin to inform them. In case it happens again.
“Under the circumstances, I believe that it was the right thing to do considering the frequency of the episodes and the obvious manipulation,” Randall told us. “People do and say bizarre things for so many reasons.”

What “underlying condition” could the colleague possibly have?
Randall tells us there are a number of reasons the woman could have been having these “fainting” spells. “She may truly feel light-headed or languid from lack of sleep, too much partying, dieting, or an undiagnosed medical condition,” she said. “She could be avoiding doing her job. She could be trying to gain the affection of a particular colleague. She could be a manipulative narcissist. It could be a set-up for the company’s wrongdoing, looking for a pay-off.”
“If her episode was only emotional, and all she needed was someone to listen to her, fine.,” she added. “However, when it becomes a physical matter, it’s time to call an expert.”
Randall believes that barring any real medical or mental condition, “someone like her will shape up only when everyone stops being her personal Good Samaritan.” As long as there are kind-hearted people, says the expert, she will continue to find them until one day, she is either fired or burns all her bridges.
“Interacting with entitled coworkers can be tricky because there’s no avoiding them,” Randall told Bored Panda. “You want to demonstrate that you are able to get along with your colleagues. Do they behave this way with everyone or just you? Something to think about.”
If you find yourself dealing with a somewhat entitled colleague, Randall suggests you learn to confidently and professionally call them out on their “slick talk.” She advises that you overlook what and how they say. “Take only the necessary information and move on,” adds the expert. “Stand your ground by respectfully stating your boundaries.”

“Recreating the Victorian era when women had fainting spells isn’t the best strategy for your professional career”
Randall’s advice often comes with a dash of humor. And this time was no different. We had to stifle a giggle when the expert said, “Nostalgia is nice, however, recreating the Victorian era when women had fainting spells isn’t the best strategy for your professional career.”
We asked what she’d say to the female colleague given the chance… And this was her response:
“If your spells are due to a tight corset, loosen it.”
“If your spells are due to emotional distress, seek counseling.”
“If your spells are due to work overload, speak up.”
“If your spells are an attempt to make friends or flirt, stop it. You are only encouraging pity.”
“The moment will come when your colleagues begin to question your requests—sending them off to quench your tummy’s desires. And, not paying them back!”
“If you like feeling powerful, why don’t you take charge of your life and career?” she added. “Master the art of self-sufficiency and truthfulness. The feeling will supersede the game you play on your colleagues.” Randall warned that manipulation is temporary. “People catch on eventually, she said. “And when that happens, you will stand alone, or with others who may be manipulating you.”
To the guy who called the ambulance, Randall had this to say: “Continue to be cordial and be thankful that you are no longer within her reach.”
People raced to the comments but many were divided…

Too bad BP didn't include the update from OP... The co-worker got diagnosed with low blood pressure and malnutrition, it seems she at least has a weird relationship with food. It also came out she has loaned money from coworkers (high amount). Co-worker was let go because of creating a hostile work environment.
Thanks for the update. Way more interesting than $50 for an ambulance🙄
Load More Replies...If she were really in severe discomfort she wouldn't be asking for ice cream and sandwiches and s**t. How do I know? I have interstitial cystitis and if it's a pain that I can't power through the last thing I'm thinking about is food.
Yep. I have chronic migraine with auras and phantom smells, hallucinations; sometimes the pain is so bad that I want to just be dead (I'm virtually nonfunctional during the really bad ones - can't even speak, need a dark room, etc.) There is NO way I would want food, a drink, or even anyone NEAR me or fanning air onto me when I'm having one of my migraines. XD
Load More Replies...Hot clumates do this. Example: summer in El Paso we rode in the morning, stopped around noon, hung out with my boss’s dad, who told us old cavalry stories, watched Mexican boxing, had the maid fixed us astonishing food, hang out, then around 5 went out and rose some more.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry, I get people not wanting to waste resources etc....but I think it was epic and I have a feeling she'll be recovering soon from her fan me bring me snacks attacks.
"Not wanting to waste resources"? Someone could have died because they needed an ambulance and the one that would have picked them up was dealing with this s**t.
Load More Replies...My wife's ex best friend was in the psychiatric hospital, self admitted. Her Mom apparently called her at least once a week, threatening s*****e, to which ex best friend would talk her off the ledge, or go visit, but she always believed she was doing it for attention. Since the Mom couldn't get ahold of ex best friend, mom starts messaging my wife. My wife calls me in a panic. I advised that she's not a mental health professional, she shouldn't try to talk her off the ledge but she should take it seriously and call 911 and give them her address. Police go, Mom insists there's no issue, and curses our my wife over text for calling 911. All this to say, I'm not going to F around with a medical emergency whether I believe it or not. Let the professionals sort it out, and if it comes out it was faked problem solved. If it was legit problem also solved.
My mother actually does this a LOT. She crosses her eyes, hangs her mouth open wide & leans "weakly" to the side of her chair and pretends to almost fall off. If someone is by her, she always fall in their direction. if no one is near enough, or trying to catch her, then she catches herself. No one who is actually dizzy will cross their eyes like that, that's cartoon stuff.
Sounds as if she maybe can't afford to eat and only way is to get someone else to buy her food?
If a person has to pay for an ambulance they didn't want, need, or call for that's b******t. Even if the law in whatever country he lives in allows him to do that he still is an asswhole. Also passive aggressive b***h move. Confront her yourself if you have a problem. Also that ambulance may be needed for a legit medical emergency, not some petty office drama.
I found the OPs later comment that he didn't know what to do (ignore it, maybe?) and confronting her, texting her, talking to other coworkers, and staying silent all seemed wrong to him really interesting. He felt like he HAD to do something and chose that? I get that in some SE Asian countries confrontation is avoided, but if it was such a problem for him that he felt he HAD to act on it confronting her directly, especially with a threat to call the ambulance, would have been better than his cowardly BS.
Load More Replies...Here's a comment provided by OP. "We made a group chat and provided a lot of proof last night. This is an HR problem now and we will notify HR instead of talking directly to her. She has been texting other coworkers and borrowing money to go to the hospital. She exclusively targets female teachers and requires them to not share the matter with others. This is beyond me now, will update after HR solve it." Looks like the lady is just scamming people for free food?
I know someone with thalassemia (Middle Eastern Blood Ocean Disease), a type of anemia where the red blood cells are deformed and do not carry as much oxygen and glucose. Fortunately, she has the mildest type. Because of this, she has to be careful to avoid iron-rich foods and any supplements containing iron. Symptoms are similar to low blood sugar. Headaches, dizziness, and vertigo. It usually comes on suddenly and is resolved within minutes by eating something sugary. When sugar or aspirin fails to alleviate the headache, a half can of beer does. No idea why a little bit of beer helps. Wine doesn't and will make it worse. Go figure...
If it is what helps, have your friend try bread first. It would likely hav the same effect

Load More Replies...I once felt very woozy and, because I had a blood pressure monitor, found that I was at 45/23. I thought that was an error, but called an ambulance, and they confirmed that blood pressure reading (at least to the accuracy of saying “that’s about right”). It turned out I’d had such a sudden attack of food poisoning that almost all the fluid in my body had rushed to my intestines without vomiting or diarrhea, so I'd had no symptoms before nearly passing out. (I had several attacks of diarrhea at the hospital). That was the first time I realized that I could just keel over without notice despite being a fairly healthy person. Every time I think about leaving Los Angeles now that I’m retired, I remember how relieved I was that the EMTs knocked on my door in the time it took me to hang up the phone and start putting on my shoes.
passing out could vomit and aspirate ie. pneumonia. have sugar under the tongue or glucose gel..
2 days work = 50 and that pays for ambulance. Shudnt of rang ambulance and just confronted her, as some said my be cry for help or way to get free food. But least wasn't in usa as would cost 1000s but in uk ambulance free, health check up free, even feed you in in there too long lol
I get weak and feel like I’m going to pass out fairly often. My vision narrows down to a pinpoint. Finally, the doctor added a beta blocker to my calcium channel blocker. Success!
Where I work, it's a blunt rule that if something happens that the first aiders cannot help with, either send the person home (if they appear able to do so) or call an ambulance if there is any doubt. It is banged into their heads that they are not medically trained, they have liability as first aiders, and in *any* doubt hand over to people who know what they are doing. She'd have been asked to lay down quietly (with no food) the first time. The second time she'd be out on a gurney. Oh, and the first aiders are specifically told to ignore the patient saying "no, I'm fine" because liability and they and the patient are not actually trained enough to know the person is fine (and not just embarrassed).
By the sounds of it she could be suffering from thunderclap headaches they just appear and are very debilitating to but you go pale with them and eating is the last thing you wanna do , water yest rest yes food. NO ! Cos they are so severe it makes u feel very sick ! ! N if she’s not going pale and or green looking , then she is faking it for attention !! the demanding food bought for her n gone out to get is a huge red flag , would love updates plz has she actually stopped this childish c**p now ???
