“I Lost It”: Woman Backs Out Of Wedding, Tells Groom To Lawyer Up After Bride Reveals Her True Face

Friends are supposed to support each other through thick and thin, and one can’t imagine a worse scenario than a friend going through chemotherapy. So imagine the shock and horror to learn that your so-called “friend” has decided to take her worst bridezilla impulses out on you just because you gained some weight.

A woman dropped out of a wedding as a bridesmaid after her friend mocked her for her chemo-induced weight gain. Netizens rushed to support OP and she shared some more thoughts in the comments section.

Some brides go off the deep end when it comes to planning their “dream” wedding

But one woman ended up throwing in the hat and refusing to be a bridesmaid after being insulted

While it might be cliche and somewhat rooted in misogynistic tendencies, there are brides out there who fully confirm the term bridezilla. To those who are unaware, a bridezilla is just the combination of a bride and Godzilla, the city-destroying lizard. This term is used, one way or another, to describe brides who go off the deep end when planning their own weddings.

There are a couple of explanations for this. Generally speaking, the bride is the one doing the majority of the wedding planning. This often ends up being a lot of work for just one person, which, naturally, turns into resentment and stress. They lash out at people, become unreasonably demanding and generally act in an unpleasant manner.

After all, some people have an idea of a dream wedding that they have been sitting on for years, or even decades. In their mind, it has to be perfect, because it’s a once in a lifetime event. So whenever reality doesn’t match up with the fantasy that they have been building in their heads, the reaction tends to be aggressive. This can lead to bizarre decisions that end up costing friendships and more.

However, it’s important to note that none of this is an excuse to treat a friend the way this woman did. Even if OP wasn’t undergoing chemo, attacking her for her weight is unacceptable, rude and calls the entire relationship into question. On top of that, she makes some horrible remarks about the wedding photos being ruined. This is peak entitlement, where the bride has decided that her personal preferences have become more important than anything else in the world.

There is some chance that OP’s friend is simply very stressed and never learned to control her anger. This doesn’t excuse the behavior, but at least explains how she can treat a friend this way. Alternatively, she was never really OP’s friend and this event was simply the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Either way, OP is absolutely in the right to ditch the wedding. This is not an event worth enduring abuse over. After all, she will just “ruin” OP’s wedding pictures, so she is basically doing her a favor. All in all, this is a pretty classic example of how not to treat your friends. Regardless of OP’s excuses or if she apologizes later, it’s an ugly look.

OP focuses a bit on the price of the dress, but, in general, the bride knows what she is going through. At the end of the day, this is just not how a friend should act and the silver lining is that OP can go out and find new and better friends. Getting angry over the price of a dress over the feelings of a friend is sociopathic behavior. We’ve reached out to OP via Reddit for comment and will share new details and updates when she gets back to us.

OP shared some more information in the comments

Just in case anyone jumps on the cancer = thin bandwagon... many cancer patients are treated with high dose steroids to protect their organs during chemo, and these stack on fluid retention. The Bride is a d**k regardless, not worth the time and energy it would cost OP.

You could maybe let it slide if it was just a gentle dig about ordering the pasta and that was it. It'll still be rude, but you could get past it. But when she continued on that really made her an AH. And yeah, I had to read up on chemo because I've always associated it with weight loss too. But sadly in the cases I'm familiar with the patients didn't get better. I'm hoping for the woman in this story she is improving.

As an eight-year cancer survivor, I have but one question: What. The. Absolute FUUUUUUUUUUCK?! Who in the HELL says something so despicable to a CANCER PATIENT?! I thought it was in very poor taste when someone gave me a book entitled, "30 Days To Live" when I was undergoing cancer treatment. But THIS takes the cake! I guess cancer isn't the only thing that sucks. Should that bridezilla-bìtch ever have to deal with cancer, it should be quite interesting to see how SHE handles the fluid retention from the steroids (AND the elevated blood glucose levels), the alopecia, the constipation, the diarrhea, the nausea and vomiting, and especially, the isolation. Oh yes, let's not forget the other "perks" of treatment that are permanent: neuropathy, lymphedema, radiation proctitis, and a compromised immune system. I can guarantee that she'll be singing a different tune--only, no one will be listening.

Very true. That said as a radiation therapist I am always nagging my patients about their weight 😅 anything from big gain to big loss. In the treatment significant weight change results in under or overdose of radiation in the treatment region. So I'm doing everthing under the sun with my patients to get their weight stable. Had I been at the same table as OP they'd probably heard me curse the bride two blocks over. With all the things going on in cancer treatments it's so hard for patients to stay stable in their weight without having some POS "friend" shaming them ffs.

What is this obsession with "perfect" photos and terrorizing bridesmaids to fit into some aesthetic, instead of having pictures of loving, happy friends who can be themselves..?

Seriously, brides need to contract with a modeling agency if they want a specific picture perfect aesthetic. Would save a lot of time and heartbreak.

This is odd. Apparently, they have been close friends for 15 years and the bride has never behaved like this before? Or was it ok when she was talking about someone else? The whole thing isn’t adding up.

Omg, WHAT?! That’s absolutely disgusting, considering OP is dealing with CANCER & doesn’t need all that crāp thrown at her for something that isn’t even an issue! How a size 10 is considered too much is mind-boggling to me, as that’s not even close to “overweight”. OP is entitled to call this person out for being so damn cruel about it & shouldn’t need to apologise, as that’s just the truth & if they can’t handle it, tough. Find yourself some better friends, hon. These ones are toxic AF! 🙅‍♀️

The steroids given to reduce the nausea and vomiting can cause fluid retention, giving one a puffy look.

NTA. I'm glad she left. The bride will be missing one bridesmaid. But the groom also lost his best man and that is sad, not because the brother decided not to show up but because of the bride. I can't imagine having a peaceful marriage with that woman.

Good for OP for seeing friend for who she is and calling it out. First who cares what size you are, and who thinks it's unreasonable to leave pasta on a night out. Especially if there are drinks expected this is good planning, often economical and the diner's f-ing choice. No one should be pushing their eating disorder onto anyone else. Good for OP, don't look back.

If the groom was such a a close friend, he would have forced the bride to apologize as soon as she said it. And possibly postponed or cancelled the wedding. Going around behind her back to apologize without forcing her to face her mistakes just enables the bride's bad behavior.

As a former chemo nurse, oncology, cancer treatment medications will really do a number on you. I am so glad you had a desire to eat that pasta! I think, you should go back there, order it for take out, take it home, set up a nice table setting for yourself, and munch! You deserve it! Your friend is no friend. Ever. We used to tell pre chemo patients to try and gain some weight so that they wouldn’t lose a lot of weight, and be tossing their cookies. But, the meds take your appetite away, and hide it. They will give you steroids, to help, those make you gain weight, and then hydrate you with fluids which also plump you up. So, any weight gain is never the patients fault. I pray the cancer never comes back and you happily enjoy that pasta free of any associations with that biatch of an ex friend. Good luck and have a great life! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎉🎊🫶🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I think I would’ve taken my plate of pasta and dumped it over bridezilla’s plate. Since she obviously chose her bridal party for looks, not their friendship to her. Brides are under stress, but there’s no excuse for what she said. None. I’m curious as to how long this marriage lasts. And what excuse the bride has for the eventual break up of her marriage.
