Museum Asks Breastfeeding Mom To Cover Her Nipple, And Now They Wish They Hadn’t
612Kviews
A London mom was recently breastfeeding her 1-year-old son in the courtyard of the Victoria and Albert Museum when a staff member asked her to ‘cover up’ while doing so. Yeah, it’s 2017 and we’re still dealing with this.
The woman, whom we know only by the Twitter handle Vaguechera, had apparently only flashed a “nanosecond of nipple” when the incident occurred, and it goes without saying that she was just a little bit dismayed. After all, not only is breastfeeding one of the oldest and most natural practices known to humankind, it’s also protected by law in the UK, even in museums. To make matters worse, this all took place on August 5th – smack dab in the middle of World Breastfeeding Week.
The V&A found itself in serious hot water over this one, and in addition to issuing an official apology to the mom on behalf of both the museum and its director, Tristram Hunt, they had a lot of explaining to do after the woman’s clever Twitter post on the issue went viral with more than 7 thousand retweets. Scroll down to find out how she did it, how the museum responded, and what people are saying about it.
This mom was asked to ‘cover up’ while breastfeeding her son in a museum
However the place was full of nude women sculptures, so she thought of the perfect response
She took some photos of bare-breasted sculptures to show how ironic it was that she was not allowed to breastfeed there
She also added some hilarious captions to ridicule the situation even further
The tweets got shared so many times that the museum had nothing left to do, but publicly apologize
As breastfeeding is protected by law in the UK and other countries, many users were in support of her too
Others, however, clung to an alternative rhetoric
What do you think? Is breastfeeding in public a big deal? Tell us in the comments!

Calling her toddler obese was uneccesary
And not even true. Toddlers are cheeky. Even my daught who is on the very low part of the weight curve is cheeky...
no, they are not. it's a thing people like to believe in, but it's not actually true. toddlers are different sizes and shapes, just like adults. that kid seems really big for a 1-year-old (when I compare him to my son at least), but naturally no one should call him obese. fun fact: there was a study in which people were shown photos of toddlers and asked which one of them looks healthy and has a proper weight. almost all of participants pointed to a kid that was too fat, because we think that this mean health.
He looks like a pretty solid little kid for a one year old, but not fat, just kinda sizable. But I don't see why that should be an issue lol. And every five minutes? Who spends only 5 minutes at a museum? It's just a stupid comment imo.
You're wrong; that child is definitely a bit overweight. Maybe not "obese", but he's on the chubby side. As for the breastfeeding in public debate, use some common sense and common courtesy, especially when the child is a toddler.

Indeed. That kid doesn't even look obese. He looks just like a normal kid. (And very adorable too btw ♥ )
And that guy is clearly a moron
He is so chubby its ADORABLE
I just checked - the tiny little coward who left that comment deleted it! Can't even stand behind his own bullying, he's so busy talking about how respectful he is of the environment, animals etc etc...guess he's still learning the whole "respect people especially children unless you suck at the deepest level possible" concept. Also, that kid is absolutely adorable.
Breast feeding on demand has that effect on babies, as we can see when we look at paintings from the Italian Renaissance. My own daughter was so fat, you literally could see her smiling from behind. But they slim down later. My lovely girl is now 16 and a trapeze artist. She is slender graceful and beautiful. Well, at least she's beautiful to me because I am her mother.
You literally cannot breastfeed a child into obesity. Breastmilk is nutritionally perfect, and the body will only use what it needs.

I breastfed on demand and my kid is slender as a pixie. She's always been that way too. But always strong and healthy. It's genetics too. Renaissance paintings may've had a great deal of idealization too.
Doesn't mean he'll stay that way.

I love the fact that in the world we're living in, people have nothing more important to get upset with than a woman feeding her kid... I really hope that the same people militate against the ads that cover our streets with half naked women (and men) to make us by yogurt and cars.
^^this
But when some girls/women walk around half naked with short shorts that barely cover their ass cheeks and crop tops with a v-neck as low as it can go, NO ONE is complaining that they are showing their ASSets..

Seriously?! Fat-shaming a baby?! This world is going down the drain smh
Is going? Already been sliding for sometime unfortunately.
Yeah, for some reason that's what shocked me the most.
Models are allowed to walk naked in the streets, but as soon as a mother wants to breastfeed her kid(s), it's considered an outrage.
It already did when America voted for drumpf
