Man Shares An Eye-Opening Pic Showing What Covid-19 Did To Him After 6 Weeks In A Hospital
When it comes to Covid-19, we are used to numbers. New cases, deaths, recoveries. As people with the virus are quarantined, the stories from the patients in hospitals are scarce. That’s why it might be more shocking to hear it from the lips of someone who’s been through it than to see numbers spike up.
43-year-old nurse from San Francisco, Mike Schultz, recently shared a harrowing photo on his social media page showing what 6 weeks of fighting the coronavirus can do to a body. The picture shows a comparison between a healthy, strong male and what seems like a mere shadow of the man on the left.
Schultz shared his thought on Instagram with his followers, detailing his experiences:
“I wanted to show everyone how badly being sedated for 6 weeks on a ventilator or intubated can be. Amongst other things, covid19 reduced my lung capacity with pneumonia. Over 8 weeks I’ve been away from family and friends Getting stronger every day and working to increase my lung capacity. I’ll get back to where I was in healthier ways this time….maybe even do cardio”.

The two photos of Mike look like night and day and show what the virus can do to a human body
Luckily, Schultz is on his way to recovery. “After 57 days in the hospital and rehab unable to see any visitors, I’m finally going home!!” he posted on May 15. “I plan on continuing my recovering with my guardian angel and boyfriend, Josh, who checked in on my several times a day if not more,” he added.

Share on FacebookIf it weren't for the tattoo on his arm, I wouldn't have believed it was the same person.
Like it's impossible to get the same tattoo! This is TOTAL BS. (just kidding, I'm just trying to imagine what all the conspiracy theorists, deniers, and people-who-refuse-to-mask are thinking when they read this article).
Load More Replies...Damn. That's... terrifying. I'm already rail thin. There would be nothing left of me after that. This is why I stay home.
To be honest, big muscles are very high maintenance. If you don't work out regularly, they disappear fairly quickly. Being bedridden and fighting with a disease ate up every unused tissue during six weeks.
Load More Replies...From a fellow frontline nurse, I wish you the very best. I hope every day has you feeling better. Thank you for all you do.
And thank you for all that YOU do. Please stay healthy- both physically, and mentally. I can't imagine what you're dealing with on a daily basis. Try not to allow yourself to get burnt out. I know it's easier said than done. The world needs you guys now more than ever. Without you, we're ALL doomed.
Load More Replies...He is so lucky to be alive. Many people who end up on ventilators do not fair well. I am so glad he decided to share this. A picture is worth a 1000 words.
I've heard from my mom, a retired nurse who reads a lot of news, ventilators are part of the problem. They just don't work with Covid-19 patients, at least not without the correct medicine ASAP.
Load More Replies...Shocking! Considering how buff and healthy he was... and the fact he's a healthcare worker(wonder if he was issued appropriate PPE). Glad he's on the mend.
Heartbreaking. He came so close to the ultimate price for being a true hero. My heart goes out to him. There are thousands and more who won't be able to get back to where they were before. Some will be like me and develop fibromyalgia and CFS. (I was hours away from dying of pneumonia about 8 years ago)Others because their organs were shutting down. We won't know how far reaching it will go for many years to come. And still there are people who want to compare it to illnesses that the world has experienced in the past, they just can't comprehend how new this particular strain is. Can't understand how no one could have been truly prepared. I'm glad he's on the road to recovery.
OMG! Thank you for sharing your experience. I wish you improved health & life!
Just remember that covid 19 can affect ANYONE, even a healthy person.
I wonder if he's going to modify his physique. He basically starting from scratch. He should do a transformation series showing him making back his gains.
I wish all the people running around without masks and not caring could see this. Ohhh, this would never happen to me! I'm young and healthy! Thank you for sharing this!
This can happen from a lot of infections, not just Covid19, so please everyone take a breath. Seen this with a guy who had septicemia (hospitalized 53 days), post-partum bacteremia (hospitalized 47 days), flu-related pneumonia (hospitalized 28 days)... So my message remains as it's been for, at this point, years: Stay calm. Wash your hands. Stay calm. Wear a mask due to Covid19. But stay calm. Please. We're doing our best. Do your best in return. Sign me... Off to my shift as medical information and patient advocacy volunteer... Remember, even a tripled-up t-shirt is better than no mask, and wash your hands. Thank you.
All true, but any illness that can put someone in hospital for that long should be taken seriously. Calmly, yes, but hella seriously too. A lot of people think that just washing your hands is the best they can do, but social isolation and masks are saving lives, and people need to be told that.
Load More Replies...Well, this man looks a bit normal after beiing sick 4 a while. The muscles are fake, a lot of work, and for what? imo.
Well, this man looks a bit normal after this imo. Not so blown up. He should not complain.
Glad Mike pulled through and has Josh as his partner on the road to complete recovery. LOVE IS LOVE!
So... for the people down voting those referencing him using steroids, have you read the article in his post? If not, or even if you did, I'll paste a sentence he wrote below. If you chose to, let's discuss. "I’ll get back to where I was in healthier ways this time....maybe even do cardio". I think it's implied that he got his *admittedly awesome* physique in ways that weren't exactly healthy. There's no need to demonize those who juice though, most of them know exactly what they're risking and doing to their bodies. When you're on that much steroid for bodybuilding purposes or any purpose for that matter, you weaken your immune system.
I bet they get down voted for the implied assumption in that had he gotten his muscles without steroids, they might have survived his illness. If he hadn't taken steroids, perhaps he could have excercised (while being in the ventilator)? The asshats don't get downvoted because they expose Mike taking steroids. They get down voted because they sound like the "corona is a conspiracy" gang.
Load More Replies...I think he must excersise more to get his strength back. Good luck for him
Hi Mike, share your pics with Super-Trump. Might help him with wearing a mask
