Guy To Travel Around Florida Dressed As The Grim Reaper To The Beaches That Opened Prematurely
Imagine you’re at the beach enjoying the waves washing over your feet and the sun warming your skin. That’s when you notice a tall, black-robed figure with a scythe out of the corner of your eye. You take a better look and that’s when you realize it’s the Grim Reaper!
Florida lawyer Daniel Uhlfelder plans to travel around his state beaches from May 1 to warn people about the dangers of not social distancing—all dressed up as the Grim Reaper. Uhlfelder was quite obviously inspired to do this by New Zealand’s public service campaign where a person dresses up as the infamous Swim Reaper to promote water safety and tries to prevent deaths from drowning.
While Uhlfelder’s main message is to make sure that Floridians know how important it is to stay at home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, he also plans to use his Reaper get-up to raise money for Democrats running for federal office.

Florida has more than 27.8k people infected with the coronavirus. More than 4.2k people are in hospital due to the disease while the virus has claimed the lives of more than 860 people. According to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the state had “flattened the curve” and he claimed that they avoided what happened in New York City and Italy.
Meanwhile, the Swim Reaper who Uhlfelder was almost certainly inspired by has had huge positive effects in New Zealand. The confrontational Swim Reaper campaign that was launched in December 2016 used dark humor to make young males aware of the danger they’re in.
Kiwi men from 15 to 34 years old used to make up a third of all preventable drownings; now the numbers are lower, closer to a quarter.
The Swim Reaper has more than 443k followers on Instagram and warns people about things like riptides, how dangerous swimming near rocks really is, and how you should never, ever swim when drunk.

Can we all just stop arguing over nonsense and just enjoy that grim reaper on a unicorn floatie?
As dumb as the Governor of Florida is to open up the beaches this early...The Mayor of Las Vegas has already claimed the Covidiot Champion of April Award...
At least they are excellent bad examples (much like trump). Whatever they say or do, don't.

I must have missed the advertisement. Where did you find it?

Just look at Singapore, they thought they had it under control and had very few cases because of the preventions they had in place and now they are having hundreds to over a thousand cases appear because foreign workers that have brought it into their country. I know economically we can't be isolated forever but opening everything up too early including our borders is a recipe for a disaster. The US has the most cases of Covid-19 than anywhere else in the world, they have overtaken Italy by thousands. There have been over 800,000 cases and over 45,000 deaths. Florida has had over 25,000 cases and over 800 deaths. Is that really a risk worth taking. In Australia we have over 6,500 cases and 74 deaths yet we are still being very cautious even though we only have a small amount compared to many places in the world. Be smart and stay safe.
Awesome. I hope people get the hint that this isn't going away after staying inside for a single month.
But he hasn't got a cat. Death always carries a cat. And where is Binky, hmmm?
I have wanted a My Little Binky set since I read that book. Also, I adore Susan. She's my role model.

The last time Chicago had to get refrigerated trucks to hold the body overflow was during the heat wave of 1995 when 732 people died over 5 days. The current death toll for Cook County is 1,072. That's a lot of refrigerated trucks...

I'm a huge fan of the Swim Reaper. If you haven't seen his/her Instagram page, go and check it out for yourself.
I hope his lifeguard chair is at least 6 feet high, otherwise, he is contributing to the problem.
Does anyone else see the irony of him telling people not to go to the beach as he himself goes to the beach? Anyway, what's the problem, if people practice social distancing?
Did it look like people were practicing social distancing in the photo that showed the lady riding the horse?

He stopped talking to me after I sent him a newspaper article about FLORIDA MAN in Naples arrested for disorderly eating on April 13 last year at Olive Garden. Someone there called the cops on this guy because they didn't like the way he was eating. Strange things, indeed.
Disorderly eating? How disorderly can eating be Lol! Remind me of family guy peter reading while intoxicated

I think the florida 'Reaper TOUR is....still a tour! And, NOT conforming to safe practises and guidelines for to curb the spread of the virus! Hes DOING the exact thing hes supposedly out there to remind caution and warn against! Traveling around! Not staying home! Its a. THIINLY disguised exuse for campaignibg on the road which traveling=traveling. Bitches, PLEEEEZE!

A good part of the immune system works with the skin to keep infections out! Burn it, and your raw meat! Hello SARS-CoV-19 virus!
The death rate for this is incredibly low, even lower than stated because they are counting deaths from head trauma as COVID. So we are actually late in opening back up. More people are dying due to the quarantine than the illness.
I must say, the Grim Reaper's umbrella is a nice touch. And he has his Halloween costume all ready, too.
yes I agree and commend the effort to rise the awareness to help controlling the situation of the corona virus.
that was such a nice idea, at least will call many peoples attention and by doing things there are funny it may rise the awareness for important things we need to do (like social distancing because of the corona virus situation now). There was a time when my great-grandfather told my mom, "one day people will need to buy water to drink", that was unthinkable at that time, and today ads like this are very popular ( http://tiny.cc/Pure-Water ). and part of the world people dont have pure water anymore as they did in the past. I do congratulate the idea here and also admire people who try to make the world a better place even for the small things they do such as only make people aware...
So, reading the headline, the newspaper now determines when the beaches should be open? And the political hack in the costume that shows you don't have to be mentally stable to be a lawyer.
this is going to turn into a party real fast. No way people are going to just walk arounf for exercise.
A lot of people on here are missing the point and have no idea the meaning of the word hypocrite. Also not sure how it is ironic either. The guy knows full well what he is doing. He is exposing a problem in a very public way. Not ironic or hypocritical at all.
The photos are of New Zealand's Swim Reaper which is a campaign about water safety. Those photos were taken long before the COVID-19 outbreak.
Load More Replies...Why do I have a feeling people will show up on the beach to take pictures of the Grim Reaper. I doubt its going to do what he's expecting it to do, in the end he's going to make this more of a spectacle that it already is going to be. Plus, he himself is stating that this is for 'Raising money' for a political party, his end goal isn't about the safety of everyone, his end goal is campaign crowd funding for donations by using the early opening beaches and his costume as a stunt. Wait and see, Florida's COVID numbers are going to go up again and that's the saddest thing out of all of this, there are so many retiree's down in Florida, most of that state is High Risk.
The only one to blame for the COVID numbers going up after the beaches were reopened in Florida is the governor for making such an idiotic decision.

Just abide by social distancing rules for God's sake!! In the Tampa area, we are traveling to neighboring areas just to get some needed outside time, and following the rules!! The news doesn't report that. They grossly underreport the measures we are taking to keep others safe while getting our much-needed, SAD-reducing therapy outside.
