30 Real Estate Listings On Zillow That Were So Bad, They Went Viral On These Instagram Pages
InterviewWhoever is responsible for carpeted bathrooms, flights of stairs leading nowhere, butterfly toilet seat covers, and other disaster design choices should be punished for such crimes. There’s plenty of proof of their misdeeds as well, since a lot of these ''wonders'' end up showcased online. Home listing sites are some of the best places to look for the creme de la creme of design atrocities.
Take a look at Zillow, for instance. It presents real estate listings, most of which might make you want to move houses straight away. However, some feature design choices that are excellent examples of what not to do in your own home. They became sources for two grand collections on Instagram—Nightmare on Zillow Street and Zillow Fails.
Bored Panda has reached out to the two accounts via Instagram. Nightmare on Zillow Street were kind enough to answer a few of our questions. Scroll down to find their thoughts below.

Looking for a new house is not the only reason for browsing real estate listings. Sometimes it’s a great place to find home improvement ideas or vice versa—examples of things you would never do to your beloved nest.
The creator of Nightmare on Zillow Street shared with Bored Panda why they chose to post the latter type of designs on their Instagram account: “It seems to me that people are mostly interested in really bad decor choices more than the actual design of the home. It's all about the shock value! It's fun to laugh. That's what people need more of in their lives!”
Hmmm cozy, amazing nature veiw, creaky door... a bit expensive but ill take it 😁
The creative mind behind the account admitted to being addicted to Zillow and looking at homes. “Sometimes I see things that I just HAVE to share with the world. Things so bad or shocking that I can't keep it to myself.”
“It always boggles my mind that sellers don't understand the importance of putting together a place that elicits a warm, cozy atmosphere that buyers would want to invest in. And hopefully pay top dollar!” they said.
Sadly, not everyone has an eye for detail and impeccable taste in home design. Moreover, not everyone’s ideas make as much sense in real life as they might in their heads. And these pictures are great proof of that.
That is why it might be a good idea to turn to professionals for help. Thankfully, there are nearly 44 thousand of them in the US alone, which provides hope for people willing to invest in the design of their home.
Isn't there an episode of the D**k Van Dyke show where they buy a house with a rock like this in the basement???
This was my immediate thought on seeing this image. The D.i.c.k Van Dyke Show, season 4, episode 25, "Your Home Sweet Home is My Home."
Load More Replies...My grandparents had a boulder in their basement. They built the original house and it was fine. A few years later they put an addition on, but when they were digging the foundation they came across this massive boulder. They couldn't remove it because it was so big and they couldn't blow it up because it was so close to the existing foundation so they left it and built the "new" basement around it.
Why is the couch so small and the chair so big and the boulder in the floor and rocks on the wall......none of this computes.
The number of times I would trip over that boulder in the middle is greater than zero.
Actually that's kinda cool, though I don't really want to be wandering around in the dark looking for food with those there
Yes. My formally drunk self would have never survived this house.
Load More Replies...My neighbor has/had a fire stove about 4 ft from the wall that was on top of a more leveled rock. I use to go over as a kid to play with her granddaughter and I stubbed my toes several times on that damn rock.
I stayed at a villa in Sicily once that was built into the rocks, so all the back walls were just rockface. No boulders poking up through the floors though!
When you are building your base on rough ground in a game, but the scenery pokes through the foundations
I love this. Imagine it warm from the sun and you can just sit on it inside. I'd totally love having that.
I'm thinking it was there when they bought it. Which makes it even worse.
I take it that was easier than removing them. It's great if your name is Bilbo Baggins but for the rest of us that's not exactly what we're looking for. That place is a new parents worse nightmare. Try baby-proofing that!
My dumbass thought it was supposed to be a bed like haha look it's a bedrock.
My friends house in Connecticut had a huge boulder in the basement. Their deck was also built around another one.
I thought the monster coffee table we had back in the 70s was a killer
Reminds me of the episode of the D**k Van Dyke show where the neighbors had a big rock in their basement. Guess it does happen.
I've seen this done when they are the tips of huge boulders that would require blasting. Build around
it's likely the finished basement of the house. I've seen this before and it's kinda cool IMHO
Load More Replies...Creating a cozy atmosphere is important not only for the sellers trying to allure a potential buyer. People building their home from the ground up usually also want to make it a comfortable place for them to stay. Especially considering that they spend more than half of their time awake at home.
Nowadays it is easier for people to make decisions about certain design choices. The abundance of different tools, apps, and software allows them to see what their home might look like without having to wait for the actual paint to dry. (Using an app for some of the design features on this list before making them happen would definitely have come in handy.)
Bunker, i like it, and want it ( no Im not a zombie Apocalypse believer, i like them because they are incredibly silent and no One annoys you )
"Stan, I need to go photograph a house we're selling. Give my your absolute WORST camera."
Im still tryna process that these pics belong to one house...
What's the problem wit this one 🤔 oh I get it the sink ain't centered below window. I could live with that
Some of these are simple paint & wallpaper -jobs. Some are... something else entirely.
I was going to say the same - so a lot need to be updated and... ?
Load More Replies...So honestly I'd rather tackle repainting a few of these than looking at another white and gray house with barn doors hung everywhere...
As an Interior Designer, these photos cause physical pain to my nervous system!
I'll take one of these over the boring modular housing you see everywhere nowadays.
If they changed out the paint colors, wallpaper, and/or carpeting on some of these, then I'd buy them.
A lot of the issues with these are the choices of furniture and decorations instead of architecture problems.
