Mom Gives Birth To A 13.5Lbs (6Kg) Baby, And Her Photos Become Internet Sensation
On May 15th, mother of four Chrissy Corbitt gave birth to her daughter Carleigh, who ended up to be quite a big of a bundle of joy. Literally.
“When the doctor was pulling her out of me I just start hearing them all laughing and excited in the operating room,” Chrissy told ABC News. “They were throwing out numbers and when they showed her to me and said 13.5, I couldn’t believe it. It looked like they pulled a toddler out of my belly. She’s so big.” Corbitt’s daughter Carleigh weighed 13 pounds and 5 ounces when she was born – that’s almost double the weight of an average newborn baby! “She’s like a 6-month-old baby,” Larry Corbitt said. “We even contacted Pampers and Huggies to help us out because everything we got to prepare is just out the door. None of it fits. She’s in size 3 diapers. The clothes she had on yesterday was a 9-month outfit. She’s huge.” To celebrate the birth of their daughter, parents Larry and Chrissy decided to have a sweet photoshoot with photographer Debbye Benson of Sweet Smiles Photography Studio. You can check out the pics below.

Share on FacebookWhao! How could that be a surprise? In France, we do at least 3 or 4 ultrasounds to check the baby and they each time estimate the growth (weight and size). I had a gestational diabetes on my last pregnancy and in this case the baby's pancreas usually works a lot to normalize the mother's glycemy. This turn the baby in a kind of sugar pump and of course, the baby get overweight. Gestational diabetes is very common, whenever the mother's not fat or do eat much sugar. It's just that the glycemy is not always well regulates because of the pregnancy. All i had to do was to adapt my diet to the fact that my pancreas was lazy and watch my glycemy to avoid macrosomia for my baby.
I have gestational diabetes. I have an ultrasound twice a week. They are on top of it, making sure he is not getting too big.
Load More Replies...I can't help it. 13 lbs 5 ounces is not 13.5 pounds. It's a little over thirteen and a quarter pounds. 13.5 lbs = 13 lbs 8 ounces as there are 16 ounces in a pound.

Load More Replies...While the baby is absolutely adorable, I think that the weight could've been avoided. I had gestational diabetes myself, but when we found out doctors immediately put me on a strict diet- meat, vegetables, no white bread, nothing with high GI... and instructed me to have walks whenever I could. Due to that, my last three months of pregnancy were the easiest - my blood work were amazing ( anemia was out the window, sugar levels perfectly normal ) and baby was just over 3kg when he was born. I'm so glad everything turned out amazing for this mom and her baby, but while gestational diabetes is quite common it can bring a lot of complications for both if not monitored correctly and it seems to me that was the case here.
Someone replied to a different comment something that might be a big factor: The US has pretty terrible healthcare. Not everyone has insurance and its possible this lady did not have insurance and couldnt afford to go to the doctor to find this information out, or perhaps she could not afford to do follow-ups or whatever. :(

Poor baby. Hope she will not have weight problems her entire life as I do.
She is very cute and it's good to know that mom and child are both doing well. That said they are both at risk for metabolic problems...
she could've died (and the baby, too) if she didn't

And not a single stretchmark! I have stretchmarks and I'm not even pregnant! What's your secret?
Metabolic problems now and in the future, namely diabetes. So, this is a medical complication, mom's weight was not adequately monitored
The mother's weight or the baby's ? The mom does not look like she haf weight issues herself.

My brother was also big at 12.something lbs and my sister was 10 or 11lbs at birth. Even though im 6'2" tall I grew up very skinny, only now that im 31 years old my metabolism has started to slow down. My weight hovered around 70kg up until the age of 26 when i decided to dedicate myself to the gym so i could reach my goal weight, wasnt till last year that i reached it at 104kgs. My brother is almost the same height and 2 years older and still cant get his weight above 60kg, so yeah i suppose we did have "weight problems" growing up. Absolutely hated being mocked for being so skinny. All 3 of us sibblings have heart murmurs, mine abnormally large, but other than that no other problems. My wife is now pregnant with our son due on 3rd March, she is freaking out coz hes already larger than normal according to doctors. Fortunately her family are all very tiny so we're hoping for an average size healthy bubba 😁👶
for those who are quibbling about half a pound or a quarter of a pound, any baby that weighs 13 lbs is a big baby, forget the ounces! jesus.
Good thing they had four kids already. Lots of hand me down outfits. WOW!!
This baby doesnt even look like a newborn. Her eyes are wide open like she can really see you. Newborns usually do not have this ability! Amazing!
It's called macrosomia from gestational diabetes. It causes hypoglycemia, poor lung development, feeding problems and potential for other issues down the road. That is not a healthy baby.
With a history of large babies, probably due to gestational diabetes, this mom was not adequately monitored. With my eldest son, I was a gestational diabetic. I had to check my sugar levels 6 times per day. I adjusted my diet accordingly. I was only 95 pounds when I became pregnant and gained 56 pounds because of the diabetes. My son was 8lbs 8ozs 22 inches. Out of 6 pregnancies which yielded 7 children, I was only gest. diabetic with 2 pregnancies. My first and my last which was twins. Had the twins not come 6 weeks early, they would have been 9 pounds at least. I had ultrasounds every month and nearing the end, every 2 weeks for fetal size checks. There was no need for this baby to have been so large
Don't lie. That weight is not healthy. I have a girl that was the same weight as a baby and now is obese.

My mum was a size 6 before she had me so no problems with weight. Babies generally level out after a while. She'll just be a hungry bunny!
Load More Replies...Macrosomia is not a healthy baby, she must be monitored (as I am sure she is) My point: big does not equal healthy
Load More Replies...My babies were larger but I learned it's not the weight that's the "problem" it's the circumference of the head :) Beautiful baby!!!! Congrats!
I wasnt thinking of looks but health issues. So many kids being obese is not OK, think of their health problems,it's the food industry guilty
