Money CAN buy happiness.
If you have ever been homeless and sleeping on cardboard boxes in the winter, you will know this is 100% true. Money is warmth, food, security, more clothes than the ones you are standing up in and showers. Being rich is no long needing to constantly worry that one day it could all be taken away
I've been/lived in homeless women shelters and completely agree. I only once spent one night sleeping rough in little wooded area in the city, I hid as best as I could. I couldn't get to the shelter in time. Luckily I had a jacket that was padded and warm. Now? I've my scrappy flat that needs repainting, a few repairs done but you know what? It's mine. My Home with a capital H... I've even got a washing machine!!! I only mention the washing machine because I've currently a load of laundry that needs to get out of it! 😄
Load More Replies...Anybody who says that money can't buy happiness, please let me put that theory to the test because I my experience having little or no money just brings stress, anxiety and misery.
For the 3,574,301th time. Money can buy physical security. It's difficult, but not impossible to be happy without food and shelter security. However, if you have food and shelter security, having more money will not make you happier. Money does not provide happiness, but can make happiness possible.
Money would legit solve all of my current problems, which in turn would make me happier. Plus, money equals being able to travel, which would make me extremely happy.

Grades mean nothing once you leave school.
Tell that to the job that wants my high school transcripts even though I'm 37.
I would add that you aren't going to be queen/king in the real world and your jock status doesn't mean anything unless you are drafted. I dated a guy that was a very popular jock and that is all he would talk about. It's like he peaked in high school.
My son applied to an estimated 400 job listing when he was close to graduating college. Only one company asked for his GPA because they had some special program he was applying to large corporations and banks. He tells college kids to just get a degree. That is all that matters.
I disagree, they mean nothing to anyone NOT working for the grade once you leave school. I will always be proud of graduating college with a 3.99 GPA. I don't expect people to come pat me on the back about it 20 years after I graduate but I am proud because I worked very hard to be better and more knowledgeable every semester. I haven't thought about my grades in a couple of decades till just now. I'm still proud of that 3.99 GPA too.
Retired teacher here, and disagree mildly: overall the grades themselves don't mean *much*, but they do prove how much you made an effort, and how much you and your parents valued education. In elementary school you are learning to read; in middle school, you are reading to learn; in high school and beyond, you are learning to learn. Let's hope you had at least one good teacher, if not more, who sparked an interest in learning for its own sake. Grades show effort and stick-to-it-iveness.
Not necessarily. As I commented above, I had severe clinical depression all through high school and into my early 20's. The fact that I graduated was an accomplishment in and of itself. I got C's across the board so certainly not terrible but definitely not reflective of what I'm capable of now.
Load More Replies...I disagree. They help you reach the next level of academia, to get to college or university.
BZZZZZT. Wrong Answer. Many federal jobs will score you (which affects your employment chances and beginning salary) based on your college GPA. Colleges will accept you based on your high school GPA, and the college that you attend (and whether you attend colleges) can determine your chances of employment and your starting salary. Your middle school grades determine your placement in high school, which can affect your college admissions.
Bad things happen to good people and there’s nothing you can do about it but endure.
If you're waiting for the wicked to be punished or grow a conscience, I can assure you it is never going to happen. It is a sad horrible fact that the bast*rds of this world are fat, rich and happy with both family and friends. While you live in their misery.
The bastards are also poor and miserable. Misery comes in all incomes.
Load More Replies...Karma, in the colloquial sense, doesn't exist. I know that some people count on it as a coping mechanism, but that's all it is. There is too much evidence to the contrary. Goodness is not always rewarded, and evil is not always punished.
For a good example see Trump's executive orders that are destroying any part of the government that protects the average worker from predatory rich peoples desires.
Even worse, good things happen to bad people, at other good people's expense.
Transitioning into adulthood brings with it a series of realizations that can be both challenging and enlightening. Despite our best efforts, facts don't always align with our expectations. Adulthood also introduces nuanced choices, each carrying potential long-term consequences and often involving trade-offs.
As you get older, you come to realize that your parents are just people trying to do their best, your paycheck never goes as far as you’d like it to, hard work doesn’t always deliver rich rewards, and life is full of mundane activities you’d rather not spend so much time on, like laundry and washing the dishes after dinner.
Realizing that no matter how good you are at your job — You. Are. Expendable.
The older I get, the better I get at my job and the more I make. I’m scared to death they’ll replace me with someone half my age for half my salary and there’s not a damn thing I could do about it.
Yes, I work as a Software Engineer. I have to justify my salary, especially since you can hire 10 junior engineers in India for the same cost. So I have to prove that I can do things that 10 junior engineers in India cannot do. You have to be better, faster, and smarter.

Mentally, I feel quite young. Then I get a glimpse of my 56 year old face in the mirror, and sometimes it surprises me. I think that's one of the cruelties of aging.
Likewise. My friend just sent me pictures of my recent birthday celebration and OUCH!

Other than just trying to be a good person, I don't make any effort follow the myriad rules and regulations of the Catholic Church. Having said that, I get a tremendous amount of calm from entering a church and participating in the Mass.
Also not accurate. A lot of it is about belonging and creating an in-group.

The skills and knowledge that brought you success in the past might not cut it for future challenges, so a commitment to personal and professional growth is of critical importance. Along the way you’re bound to have to make some sacrifices, but that’s called growing up.
Forming and maintaining friendships as an adult are harder too. Unlike the spontaneous connections of youth, adult friendships often need to be scheduled and nurtured amidst busy lives. This is when you discover that some friendships just weren’t meant to last the test of time, while others can survive anything life throws at them.

- There is no justice in the universe. Terrible people will profit from terrible things, compound wealth, and live to a ripe old age without ever facing accountability. Good people will struggle every day until they die.
Easily the most brilliant scam by horrible people was inventing the concept of "horrible people will get their comeuppance once they die" and implementing it into religions everywhere.
Don't forget the "rich people won't go to heaven" that reinforces it with class warfare.

If all Bad People lived well, and all Good People suffered, that would indicate that there IS Order In The Universe. All that it would mean is that we don't like the rules. However, many good people live long and happy lives, while many evil people suffer and die young and/or in horrible ways. In fact, people who consider themselves good are happier. Bottom line, the universe doesn't have ethics and morals, and you shouldn't expect it to follow your ethics and morals, whatever those may be. The Universe won't do the opposite either.

If you’re struggling to face up to the harsh realities of life as an adult, you might find comfort in Stoicism, an ancient Greek philosophy that emphasizes the development of self-control, virtue, and rational thinking to achieve inner peace and resilience. Founded in the early 3rd century BC, it teaches that while we cannot control external events, we can control our responses to them, thereby cultivating tranquility and equanimity.
The key principles of Stoicism include focusing on what you can control, practicing the four cardinal virtues of wisdom, courage, justice, and temperance, and accepting fate, or embracing events as they happen. Incorporating Stoic practices into your daily life can lead to personal growth and a more balanced perspective, which is never a bad thing.
It's always been the haves vs the have-nots.
Forcibly segregating the population into diametrically opposed groups and pitting them against each other is a classic control move by governments and societies. It persists because it works!
And because kids are not taught how to recognize how an authoritarian leader manipulates them. The result= Trump.

Since, for most people "Haves" = "people with more than me", while "Have Nots" = "people with the same as me or less", the terms are, once again, made up, usually by middle class kids who think that they are "rebellious".
College doesnt necessarily equate to having a good, high paying job.
Nor does a college education ensure that someone is not a blithering idiot.
I spent 2 summers working with a landscaping company. The owner once hired a guy who was SUPER book smart. One of those guys who probably made school his career. When it came to actually, physically doing stuff though he was dumb as a stump. At least once a day someone on the crew could be heard yelling, "STOP! What are you doing?" Extra costs of owning a home.
Still often cheaper to buy than to rent. At least when you move and sell your house, some of that money comes back to you. But it is like buying a used car. Make sure it is a good one and get it inspected before you buy.
Reason I purchased my home is because as I age, I wouldn't be able to afford rent in California. My mortgage payment is probably 4 times LESS than average rent. I also wanted to invest so in case I had to go into a care facility, I could sell my home and pay for that rather than being in a government run facility.

The stock market is a ponzi scheme manipulated by the largest holders. Social Security is not guaranteed and our elected officials sold us out. Taxation is without representation since at least the 1980s.
If the US had a financial system that was as well regulated and as fair as Australia’s, US could have a superannuation scheme as like Australia or some other countries. Any attempt to replace Social Security with a privatized system would result in theft of funds by the financiers on an unimaginable scale.
This! Doesn't stop them from trying periodically though. It sounds great when the stock market is going gang-busters, not so great in the middle of a bust. Do we really want grandma's SS check tied to how well the stock market is doing?

Load More Replies...I don't think anyone is really confused about that, no matter what the masses would like to believe. The whole idea is to "encourage" american companies to invest in domestic infrastructure....to bring back american manufacturing, and create american jobs, and to...basically force consumers to support those domestic operations. Are tariffs going to prevent Americans from being able to buy all the things they want? Absolutely! Which will negatively impact corporations bottom line, which will force them into domestic investment, which will create new jobs, which will improve the economy....and on and on and on. So true, you're only saving the amount of tax you would would have paid on the money you paid in interest. Until the tax rate is 100%, you still come out with more cash in hand by not paying the interest. That doesn't mean it's bad to take out a mortgage, there are many other financial benefits to owning a home. Do you have MFA (multi factor authentication) activated? If not, it’s probable your account was compromised. An inability to access your account through website & phone suggests your password was changed. It’s common for those committing identity fraud to change the email address and any phone number associated with the account, along with the security questions. This reroutes all automated messages, advising you your password and tn# have changed, to the updated versions and prevents you from proving you’re you. Do follow the money once you cooled off. It’s very unlikely the bank went through $7K unless it’s been over a period of years where you somehow forgot to pay the loan instalments so they hit your savings for that money and penalties. If you keep track of your accounts, it’s almost impossible that the bank did this. Sorry this happened to you; good luck.
