Adam Savage Shares A Savage Way To Chill A Can Of Coke In Under 2 Minutes
Don’t you just hate when you get a drink from the vending machine and it comes out warm? We all know that if you want to get the best out of the Coke, it has to be chilled. So it’s no surprise that it got people wondering how to do it as fast as possible. However, not everyone knows that this problem has been solved for us years ago.
In 2006 when somebody asked on MetaFilter how long would he have to wait until freezer chills his can of Coke, the man who is known for testing out his theories responded.
zeoslap asked: “So I just bought a can of Coke from a machine, and it came out hot so how long will it take to chill it in the freezer?
The machine is usually is 35F inside, the display was showing 89F. So if the Coke was at 89F how long will it take to reach 35F assuming the freezer is at 32F?”
asavage responded: “That would be about 20-25 minutes in a freezer. If you put it in a bucket of ice, that would halve that time. If you put water in that ice, it’d be cold (+- 5c) enough to drink in about 4-6 minutes, if you put salt in that water, you’d reduce the chill time to just over 2 minutes. Agitating the can in the water, rolling it around, reduces the chill time even more.
The fastest possible way is to grab a CO2 fire extinguisher and unload that sucker on the can.
Whatever you do, do NOT bury the can in sand, pour gasoline on the sand and set the sand on fire. That won’t do anything.
This is all empirically gained evidence, not third party.”
You probably know the responder, Adam Savage, from the television series Myth Busters. According to him, it would take 20-25 minutes in a freezer for the can to chill. But who has that much time and patience to wait, right? So Adam went out of his way and explained how to do it around two minutes!

Share on FacebookHmm - if you get a coke from a vending machine, it would follow that you were thirsty and not at home. It would also follow that you don't have a handy bucket of ice and a load of salt with you. Good tip however if you ARE at home.
"Just give it one smack at -3725.95 mph" That killed me hahahahahhaaaa, oh mann funny
Same i remember the post about the chicken on here
Load More Replies...My brother worked on a power station construction site in Australia some years ago and was asked by accounts dept how it was possible that they were using over 20 x C02 extinguishers a month. After a bit of detective work, he found out that site workers would have 2 x hot beer cans in the glove box of work vehicle. When it was time to knock off, they would put the cans on the bonnet and empty a fire extinguisher on them so they had a couple of cold beers for the trip home. Empty extinguisher was usually thrown into a open pit waiting to be filled. That was 32 years ago !!! Not a new idea.
I hate to be the proverbial wet blanket, but you should never use a fire extinguisher for anything other than fire suppression. Sorry, volunteer firefighter and EMT, but this is dangerous
I always wrap it in a wet paper towel and stick in freezer for a couple of minutes.
How do you hit something at -3729 mph? That would probably implode it
It's a reference to that whole "cook a chicken by slapping it" thing (https://www.boredpanda.com/physics-major-calculates-how-hard-to-slap-chicken-to-cook-it/) which was already meant to be ridiculous, then presumably they made it negative because you want to cool it rather than cook it. Anyway it's definitely not serious. :)

Pfft. Put it in a freezer designed to remove retained austenite at -100c will only take moments.
Place an ice cube in your mouth and slowly drink the coke. Replace ice cube and repeat.
I've tried the fire extinguisher thing and it didn't work for me. The can got cold but quickly warmed back up. The liquid got cool at best. Does it make any difference if it was beer and not soda?
Someone hit this guy in the face really f*****g hard.
