On May 13, 2026, 75-year-old Anita Anne Grayson passed away after a violent exchange with an employee at a Tim Hortons outlet on Ice Way in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.

Netizens wasted no time rallying to defend Anita, accusing the restaurant worker of everything from negligence to homicide.

Seeing the narrative surrounding the incident get out of control, on May 19, the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) was forced to release a 3-minute CCTV video of the altercation.

Highlights
  • Anita Grayson, a 75-year-old woman, passed away following an altercation with a Tim Hortons employee in Fort Wayne.
  • Fort Wayne police released CCTV footage of the incident, along with a statement detailing the heated exchange and the injuries sustained by each party.
  • Anita’s daughter revealed that her mother had cardiac issues and called the incident “diabolical.”

It showed Anita striking the first blow after the worker placed a hand on her.

Debate immediately erupted online, with some claiming that the employee went too far by attacking an elderly person, and others saying that while her passing was unfortunate, Anita should not have hit the staff member.

“It’s sad she passed, but she came into that restaurant screaming and cussing at a kid working,” one user said.

According to FWPD and the security video footage they released, Anita walked into the Tim Hortons store on May 13 at 8:09 a.m. to complain about an issue with her drive-thru order.

She waited by the counter for a while and then began “berating” a 17-year-old female employee.

Hearing the commotion, a 20-year-old shift lead, August Horner, stepped in and repeatedly requested that Anita leave the business premises.

Anita didn’t stop, however, and attempted to reach the juvenile employee by moving around August, at which point the latter placed a hand on Anita’s arm to stop her.

At 8:12 a.m., Anita struck the shift lead on the left side of her face.

“During the physical altercation, Ms Grayson grabbed the shift lead’s face, leaving scratches and knocking off her glasses,” FWPD’s statement read. “Ms Grayson then grabbed the shift lead by the hair and pulled her to the ground and rolled on top of her.”

August retaliated with her arms swinging. Both of them fell to the ground as they kept hitting each other in a flurry. During the struggle, Anita ripped out a chunk of hair from August’s head, leaving a “raw area” on the top of her head.

The 17-year-old and another worker shortly intervened and separated the two, but not without some difficulty.

Anita could be seen sitting on the floor for a while before getting up, sitting down at a table, and calling someone on her cellphone. After a while, she picked up a few strands of August’s hair from the floor and put them inside her bag.

At 8:22 a.m., Anita lay down on the floor again, and the shift lead came to check on her, bringing a cup of water. A 911 call had already been made at this point.

When FWPD officers arrived at the Tim Hortons outlet, they found Anita unresponsive. Medics were summoned and began providing life-saving measures on the spot.

While the coroner has not yet ruled on the cause of Anita’s demise, preliminary findings have shown that there were “no significant contributory injuries,” according to a WPTA 21Alive report.

The FWPD said they initially released limited information about the case out of respect for Anita’s family, but “a dangerously false narrative” about the tragedy, along with “poor-quality video” circulating online, forced their hand and led them to release the footage.

“It’s important for each of us not to draw conclusions until all of the facts have been released,” Fort Wayne’s Mayor Sharon Tucker said about the incident.

“I’m hopeful that the video and narrative that will be released by the Fort Wayne Police Department later today will help alleviate the uneasiness that many individuals have felt over the past few days.”

“A life was lost, and we mourn. I’m hopeful that through this difficult situation, we can come together as a community with a spirit of understanding and respect for one another. Let’s surround the family with care while they prepare to lay their loved one to rest.”

Anita Grayson’s daughter said she wants justice for her mother’s “diabolical” demise

After FWPD released the footage, many users blamed Anita for starting the fight.

“Being old does not mean you get to attack customer service workers,” one comment read. Another said, “That old lady is too old to be acting like that, and obviously her body couldn’t handle it.”

On May 18, Anita’s daughter, Tawnda Grayson, posted a cropped version of the CCTV footage on her Facebook account, fighting back against the narrative and demanding “justice” for her mother.

“I’m tired of people keep lying on my mama’s name,” she wrote. “This is what happened to my mom at Tim Hortons. Please, if you have any God in you, share this post everywhere.”

“Let it be known how my family has been wronged. My mother was a 75-year-old senior citizen, and they attacked her video. Don’t lie, I need Justice for Anita Anne Grayson.”

“My mother was wronged the worst way,” Tawnda told WPTA 21Alive on May 19. “I lost the matriarch of my family… You should not enter a coffee shop for a coffee and a doughnut and come out unalived. That is diabolical.”

“That’s an elderly lady. That’s not how we treat our senior citizens. We should be careful with them. We make sure that they’re alright. We don’t jump on them and attack them. And scare them to de*th.”

Tawnda also claimed that her mother had succumbed to congestive heart failure, a chronic, progressive condition in which the heart muscles are too weak or stiff to pump blood efficiently.

Anita had just gotten a new cardiac doctor and was wearing a heart monitor a week before the altercation.

Looks like someone who gave themselves a heart attack from their hysterical tantrum and violence over a drive through order. Obviously started out as a whacko.

Don't dish out what you can't take in return. This woman was the architect of her own demise. And it seems like her daughter wants to use this as a chance to get money and attention. So gross.
