A couple of years ago, one of our friends thought of a fundraising initiative. Since then, the artists and musicians are in love with the initiative. In Calgary, violin shops donate old, non-functional violins.

Local artists use these violins and give them a new life. These Art Fiddles are shown at a lot of events around Calgary. At each spring, these art fiddles are auctioned off at the Sweet Fiddlin’ show at the Calgary Fiddlers.

The funds raised at this initiative are spent to develop youth via music. Let’s take a look at what happened at 2018 Art Fiddles.

Cello Tree (Cello) – $3500

Artist Bio:

Cecile Albi’s passion was triggered when she was a teen in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She said, “I loved to show my love of form and color on both canvas and paper.

Since I had a devotion to art and music, I did my Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1987 at the University of Manitoba.

Aside from this, I earned a diploma from the Red River Community College as well. Afterward, I went to Calgary to test my destiny in graphic design”.

Paintings made by Cecile are acrylic and use different types of mediums to create an emotional, visual and tactical experience for viewers.

Gretta (Fiddle) -$650

Artist: KAREN BIKO

Artist Bio:

I spent most of the time around art and creativity. My desire and creativity were fueled by a popular artist who lived across the street from us. At an exhibition, a viewer criticized me saying that I didn’t get any formal training.

However, I got a lot better because of my desire to learn and experiment. Although I am not formally trained, I have a lifetime of inspiration.

I got inspired by the 2018 art Fiddles when I worked on the project with a Cello. Actually, I wanted to enjoy the similar feel of movement and color in the piece.

With this fiddle, you can find a black wooden piece created by me as a hanging mechanism as well.

Never-ending Winter (Fiddle) – $650

Artist: GERARDO CARSOLIO

An inspiration for this art piece:

For this piece, I was inspired during a long winter season. I just love the beauty of the trees in the snow.

Artist Bio:

Nature has always attracted Gerardo. As a kid, he had a great deal of love for the study of flowers, seeds, leaves, landscapes, and stuff that attracted him during his hiking adventures.

He wanted to create something with the things he discovered. As a self-taught carpenter, paint, and carver, he got better at his art with self-exploration.

So, this was a brief introduction to the 2018 Art Fiddles. Hopefully, you may have got enough inspiration from this exhibition, especially if you love art and stuff related to art.
