10-Year-Old Boy Invents A Genius Device To Stop Children Dying In Hot Cars After His Neighbor’s Death
According to statistics, since 1998 around 712 children are thought to have died from heatstroke in the US alone after being left in hot vehicles. But thanks to one bright 10-year-old boy called Bishop Curry from McKinney, Texas, tragic and preventable deaths like these could soon be a thing of the past.
The fifth grader has invented something called the Oasis, a clever little gadget that monitors the temperature inside the car. Once it gets to a certain level, the device emits cool air while simultaneously alerting parents and authorities via an antenna. The idea for the Oasis came to Bishop after he learned that his neighbour’s 6-month-old infant had died from being in an overheated car, and although he only has a 3-D clay model of the device at the moment, he and his father have so far managed to raise over $24,000 for their invention on GoFundMe. The money will go towards manufacturing the device as well as securing the patent for it, so if you haven’t already, head on over to their fundraising page and help to bring this brilliant project to life.

Since 1998 around 712 children have died in the US alone after being left in hot vehicles
One of them, sadly, was a 6-month-old infant who lived next door to 10-year-old Bishop Curry
After learning about it, the boy decided he could prevent this, and created a device called Oasis
The Oasis monitors the temperature of the car and emits cool air when the vehicle gets too hot
The clever device will also use an antenna to alert parents and authorities
So far they’ve managed to raise over $24,000 on GoFundMe, with money going towards securing a patent as well as manufacturing the device

Yeah I watched the video to try and see how this might work but zero info.

" he only has a 3-D clay model of the device at the moment" Well if you don't at least have a working prototype, you haven't invented s**t, just came up with a nifty idea.
Great idea which addresses tragic accidents. There is a market for this a perfected version of this device...which however should not give a false sense of safety. Rule n 1 remains NO children and NO furry ones left unattended in cars under the sun. Kid's a genius with a sense of community, kudos to him and his family.
I got in the habit long ago of checking to ensure my car is in park, my lights are off and I check the back seats before I get out. 5/5 of my children survives. Now, this habit has me ready as I grow older, since I think my worst fear now is forgetting to put it in park and it rolling back and over someone. Oh and I have a new routine for starting to drive >> I not only check to ensure the way is clear - but I take a moment - breath and focus on the gas and the break. Basically, I slow my roll and give myself time to get ready. If I think I am going to run late > I call. Rushing can be what leads to deadly mistakes.
Load More Replies...It's sad we have to invent devices to prevent kids/animals dying because their parents/owners are simply stupid and have no imagination.
I am a mom of 5. I don't think I've ever had a quiet moment which would lead me to forget my kids were in the car, or the house, or .... anywhere. In fact, it is when it is quiet - I know to be alarmed. Yes, I do understand busy but... taking a moment to look over your vehicle - inside and out before rushing forward > can save lives. My kids are grown > but I still do it - preparing for my senior years. I really want to keep driving but I want to be responsible and not cause harm. You know?
Load More Replies...After reading a lot of these comments, I'm surprised to see all the hostility. Should you leave kids or pets in your car? No, absolutely not. Should you need a reminder to get your loved ones out of the car? No, but horrible, horrible mistakes happen. I don't think this little device condones and encourages leaving your child in the car, but I do think that a sweet little boy tried to come up with an idea to prevent this from happening. I think it would be awesome if they could get a prototype that works for testing. I don't see how this is that much different than all the advances they have made in cars to allow us to be less observant drivers (i.e. lane drifting alerts, back up cameras, etc.). You travel with your children and family and yet we have these things that help keep drivers focused. Shouldn't you be extremely focused on driving so you don't crash and kill people? I just think that as horrible as it sounds to feel like we need something like this, maybe its for the best. :(
While I don't think it is an encouragement, or at least not intended at one, I don't think that will stop people of the kind who leave their children in the car already from treating it as one ... that is, assuming they will get the device instead of just assuming that they are the best parents ever and thus don't need one. Because seriously.

I like your idea: whenever there's a weight on another than the driver's seat AND the seat belt is fastened (to avoid the reaction with cargo), an alarm should go off whenever the car is locked from the outside. That would be a pretty straightforward feature and not only alert parents but also bystanders, hence avioding that babies are deliberately left in the car. The alarm thing has become a standard feature for drivers who 'forget' to put their seatbelt on, why not also install a similar alarm to disable people from leaving their babies in the car? The problem I see with the above gadget is that it implies that it is ok to leave the kid in the car when it's not too hot - which it never is.
Load More Replies...you do realize that it does absolutely nothing right?! Its only a chunk of 3d printed plastic with zero functions.
every comment i seen so far have not a thing to say about the real story; a young child is possessed of the empathy(in 2017);saw a child died from being left in a hot car. Said child invented a device that shows that he is affected sufficiently by a child dying to take time to create, and this is rare these days, and it is a wonderful idea.
So far he has an idea for a device. Whether or not it actually works enough to count it as inventing a device is still not yet known. Personally I wish him good luck, but the sad thing is that children should not have to start being responsible because some adults choose to be morons without common sense.
Load More Replies...Yes you shouldn't leave a kid or animal in a hot car, but a smart person will know they lose the run of themselves too. This is good backup.
Sorry but I don't see an invention. I see an idea with no thought shown as to how the idea could be made into an actual device. Maybe the idea has been developed further than the bad reporting job by the reporter (speaking as a 30year vet of TV news) indicates but there is not invention yet. I commend the kid for thinking beyond his age. And hope the reporter gets a day job in another field.
Not trying to belittle this young man's innovative ideas, but I don't understand how a small device such as this can produce enough cold air for a long-enough duration to help. It couldn't hold enough refrigerant nor batteries to power it. And, on another note, any parent who could forget and leave their child in a car would probably forget to put this device in it. Or even turn it on.
Great idea! No one want to left child in car, no one belive, it can happen. But those terrible cases are happening every year. So it is time to change it. Every car should have some device to control temperature, when someone is inside.
I CAN'T FIND MY PREVIOUS COMMENT BUT I KEEP GETTING NOTIFIED ABOUT REPLIES!!! MAKE IT STAAAHHPPP!! OH PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!! (>.<) FFS!! 964454b2be...023db7.jpg
Thermodynamically speaking, this is BS. In order to emit cooler air it needs to be putting the extracted heat somewhere. Being inside the car the heat does not escape. Someone is collecting a lot of money using this kid as the image to do so for a product that cannot work.
How is this device supposed to produce cool air? Keep in mind the size and power requirements of a standard air-conditioning unit, as well as the need to have part of it outside. I just don't see how this device can possibly work.
Wow... I don't know if I should be disappointed or amazed that a CHILD has taken the steps to try and fix this problem. Kudos to him.
Oh yeah that's great, could you be any more gullible? Look at this for what it is moron, a "social justice narrative" about a "genius" black child, pfffft.

If you've left your child alone, so often in a hot car, that you feel you'd need a device like this, you've got much greater problems than just this gadget is going to solve.
So often you hear the comment, "Kids these days" as a complaint but it can also be, "Kids these days, they're great!"
This kid needs to go on Shark Tank. They'd help him get a patent and market it.

So far it sounds like a $24,000 scam. My guess is that is that device doesn't contain a powered mini AC unit along with a cell phone to call out. Even if the device pairs with an autostart unit in the car those autostart units don't universally control the AC.
Wow there are some horribly judgemental, ill-informed people on here. The majority of times the leaving of the child is an awful accident.
Accident? How can you forget about a child? Is that even possible? I have a habit of taking a wallet out of my pocket an putting it in an armrest (so I don’t have to sit on in through the way) and even though it is hidden within the armrest I never forget to take it with me when I get out of the car. If human mind is capable of remembering about a thing as tiny as a wallet I just can’t imagine how you can forget about a thing that is three feet tall, can speak or at least babble or cry, has a slightly annoying personality, and has been kicking your seat for the past twenty minutes.
Load More Replies...I am curious as to whether this will ever get traction. To me, if you are the kind of person that would purchase this device, you are also the kind of person that is smart enough to not leave your kids in a hot car for anything more than paying for gas. If you really are the kind of person that leaves your kids in a hot car for an extended period, then I doubt that you want to put a device in your car that will let cops know you did. Great thought, but unless these were installed at the manufacturer level, I really don't see it working.
Its sad that you f*****g idiots are so NEGATIVE!!! This is a child that's at least trying to do something meaningful while the rest of you ADULTS sit on your asses and criticize others efforts! Smh f*****g dickheads.
How will that little box take 150 deg air inside that car and cool it? Not going to happen. So he made a heat activated pager basicly.......
The product will need to be re-thought to work. China already sell venting fans for a few $$ which keep your car cool by circulating air. Thing is you cant generate cold air without also generating heat. Only hope is to circulate as much air as possible and monitor temps. The rest of his plan should work out.
I have read this article in several other sites and newspapers, and I have not been able to find technical details of how it is supposed to work. Seems to me that the kid only has an idea of what a device in his head should do, but has no knowledge nor the capabilities to make it into a working prototype, not so a genius to me.
this kids heart is in the right place, too bad the concept is flawed. If the parent is too spaced out to realize that the baby is still in the car, how is the device going to be activated? If it notifies the authorities if the vehicle gets to be a certain temp than it would have to be activated every time. Otherwise the owners would be fined during each outing above certain temps. However, parents forgetting their babies in the car... c'mon that is not actually the problem here.. it is the parents who go into Walmart and go shopping and either dont want to wake the baby, or don't want to take their baby in. People do not often forget their baby in the car. The offenders are the ones who just don't want to take their babies in the store or the house.
Parents do bad things to kids totally by accident. A baby really can slip out of your hands and land on the floor. And I expect the first few people who left babies or pet in hot cars did not realize the danger. But now we do, What happens in a sealed car on a hot day has been all over the news for several years now. So yes, people who do it anyway are guilty of negligence, of carelessness, of just plain f**k it!
A sensor can be done. If you wired it into a car's onboard systems, you could even get it to open the windows and fire the car alarm. You could have it send a text to a phone, but... Just where on Earth does he get his cool air from? If he plans to use a chemical reaction to create cold breathable air, the device may need to be much larger, and may require something a little more complicated than 'leave this with your baby'.
Not a viable product. Shame on the news agency who promoted this. Unlimited funding could not make this product work. $24K could not make anything except the kids father some dough.
I thought at first the device was something a parent or caregiver would hold in their HAND or fasten to a keychain as a reminder to them that their child was waiting in the car.
Something along the lines of those keyfinders. Go further than XX meters from the other device and yours starts beeping, put device on kids clothes.

This a very old post. The device violates physical laws. I really wish this could work but even if it would work the only people that would use it are the people that would never leave a child, elder or animal in a hot car. I think it is great that this young man has taken the initiative to solve this problem. I just hope that this is not a scam orchestrated by others to steal money.
This is a get rich scheme , stealing an idea , calling it his own and making money out of peoples stupidity.
All they really show of the "invention" is a 3d-printed plastic block. "sits on the seat and detects when the inside gets too hot and blows cold air".. A few questions: Blows air.. how big of an airflow will a tiny plastic box create? Will it be enough to cool down anything at all or will it be like an 100yearold trying to blow out a birthdaycandle? So the box just sits on a carseat and blows air.. where does it get the air from? If it just recycles the air from inside the car.. the HOT AIR.. it would be like putting a hairdryer in the face of a toddler.. inside an allready hot car.. Is the point of the "device" to kill the kid faster to prevent extra suffering??? "invention".. All he "invented" was a pink plastic shell without anything inside.. My guess is the father did the actual planning, but they haven't done anything else than to print out the shell. A tiny box sits inside a car and blows enough air to cool down the inside of a car.. Batteries would last maybe 5min..
The person who came up with the idea of using a retractable string to attach the baby to the keys was good (except it might pull on the keys while the car is in motion, so that needs work too). While great this kid makes inventions, this particular one isn't going to work. It is too small for a portable AC, even if he got it to work, the parent would have to remember to also bring that inside every time, and there is no way to power this that won't drain a battery quickly.
Great idea and such a creative kid ... but Honestly - How about not leaving your child in the car ? What kind of S**T PARENT is doing that? I mean - there is No excuse for such situation . None whatsover ... it gets me so frustrated ...
Let's say the device he invented works exactly how he wants. (God bless kids.. they are so smart and very inventive!!) You would have to deliberately leave your kid in a car and give him this in order for it to work, right?? I mean, why would you use it if you knew you would never forget you had the child you gave birth to; were totally responsible for; or were totally blind you never looked behind you when you left your car? Mix up at day care like some say??? WTF??? you do not know your kid is with you?? How can you not.. Most of the time they are a pain in the butt!! LOL.. ok ok they are a nice pain.. but you ALWAYS KNOW they are there!
OK.. your infant is sleeping in his car seat in the rear and not making much noise, I get that. But how the heck can you not remember you have your child with you?? Or they are a little older and complaining or whining about something, how can you not remember they are right behind you??? I have done dumb stuff when I was a new mom and left my purse on top of my car and drove off... but DAMN!! I never once forgot I gave birth!!!
I think, if a parent leaves a kid in the car by mistake or neglect it will not help in the least. If it is by mistake (although I cannot imagine how that could happen), a parent will not think they need this. If it by neglect or on purpose, a parent would never buy it. I think the kid who did this is amazing, it will just in no way stop the problem.
I get that everyone makes mistakes, it’s natural. But come on, how can you forget you have a baby or any aged kid or animal at that in the car with you. It gets twice or 3 times as hot inside a car then outside. I applaud this young man for being smarter then anyone and coming up with this invention.
This kid seems to have it going on! Smart, caring and innovative. I don't see what his families income or other peoples choices have anything to do with supporting him! Who knows what a mind like this will think of next. This boy is creating out of love, he sees a need and is trying to make the world a better place! KUDDOS!
How about a solar-powered mini air-conditioner? Leave it in the window, and as the sun beats down on it, it will cool the car.
sooooo how do you work this? attatch it to a child? u cant just put it in the car. the things would be going off all the time and no kids in car. just wondering?
For all the people here that proclaim so proudly that they could never ever forget about a child in the car - almost everybody who did thought so, too. Until it happened to them in a tragic accident. I used to think that they are neglectful parents but most of them aren't We just want to believe that couldn'r happen to us. But if you ever forgot your keys, your cellphone or wallet it could happen to you. There was a brilliant article, read it. It might change your view on that topic. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/fatal-distraction-forgetting-a-child-in-thebackseat-of-a-car-is-a-horrifying-mistake-is-it-a-crime/2014/06/16/8ae0fe3a-f580-11e3-a3a5-42be35962a52_story.html?utm_term=.da7b0c20e8fe
No excuses...never ever ever ever ever...leave your child in a hot car...none...never..no excuses...idc if they are sleeping...I had 5 kids 7 and under...I never did this....never.....no excuses....EVER....
Seriously, who cares what I think? There are so many presentational variables and planning criteria to ponder in this scenario (one no-brainer criterion is securing an investor willing to absorb the cost of the project - a forward-thinking insurance company, for instance). If his device is going to save lives, it must be made available to consumers on a world-wide basis at an affordable cost. The magicians of margin analysis/feasibility will dictate that point rather quickly, I should think. After all my verbosity has become fodder for cyclonic weather data, each datum having been thoroughly digested, the minutia left spat into a large bowl of logic for someone to mull over, perhaps freezing for later dissection, this clever young thinker-extraordinaire will still need some cleverness, and frankly a heaping helping of luck - that of the variety I now wish him.
The subject here was about a tool ,a preventive measure if you will, we all pray and hope it never happens to us,but accidents do happen to everyone, even those that are very responsible.we should look at this tool this boy has invented as a preventive tool , kind of like doing preventive maintenance on your car. When your tires get low tread life you buy new ones so that you don't have a blow out ,and wreck hurting people in the car.
We have to be aware of this, because this ca be a sect or even worse a pyramid, what do I mean?, Well, there was a father here in Costa Rica who left his child inside the car, he "forgot" his own baby, and this unacceptable. Then, 3 years later he released a new car and bought a new house, so like we say here in Costa Rica he was "prized" for his "dirty job". So, thank you very much beautiful boy for make this invent, congratulations, and this can be helpul for the people who really forget their children but not the cell phone or the purse....or for those who just do it intentionally.
how does this help? you buy a product to keep your CHILD from dying! how about not leaving them in the car. unneeded invention
Good for you young man! If you save just one then you succeeded. I wish you all the best now and in the future. Keep inventing!
Is this a joke? How can small empty 3d printed box blows cold air? Does anyone know how big the cooling system is in the fridge? What kind of b******t is this? And even if it really blows cold air for some magical reason, in fully powered AC can't cool car for 15min how will this little fan?
A clay model? He didn't actually invent anything if all he has is a clay model.
Contact Onstar and see if they can incorporate itnot their items. Also need a model for older vehicles
I'm sure he means well but there is no way a device like that could emit cool air even with unlimited funding. The temp monitoring and alerting might work. All he has is an empty rubber 3D printed box and a good idea.
car companies should buy this and be installed in every auto mobile
What a cool tool. If this story is real, this kid deserves a Nobel Prize. I wonder is his dad is an engineer.
The rubber box in his hand is empty. It's sad that this news story presents it as an actual thing.

How much do they have to acquire before they announce that the device really doesn't work or do what they say it will do?
The problem is thermodynamics. To emit cold air the device has to pump heat out of the car, so a self-contained box attached to a seat simply can't do it. Also, I've invented a time machine and I'm looking for crowdfunding to develop it. The prototype is made of clay...
A pressurized can could generate a small amount of cold air, but nowhere near enough to make a difference.

If you need to be reminded to take your children out of the car you shouldn't be a parent.
I very much doubt a 10 year old invented this...and it's not even invented yet...it's a clay model of an idea ffs.

I have a better solution. Don't be a s****y parent and leave your baby in the car on a hot day (or at all). And before anyone tells me I don't understand, I have 4 month old baby and this would NEVER happen.
People should not start downgrading the kid's idea just because he did not further explain exactly how it works because as they mentioned it is just a design. You should not expect a young boy like that to already have a working prototype by now because he clearly said that it is he's main design and not he's finalised design. We should not be expecting to see a functioning prototype if he does not yet have final design for his invention. And plus there could always be that corrupted company that would not hesitate to steal an idea from a child and call it there's just for the money if they found out exactly how it works.
There are a few pesky thing that we call the laws of physics, that tiny box simply can't produce cold air to make any difference. A pressurized can might be able to give a quick poof of cold, but nothing that would have any real effect.

Unfortunately, if any parent is dumb enough to leave a small child trapped in a hot car alone, then they will be too dumb to even buy or use this. At least the kid is thinking better than some adults are!
Great idea but parents who would leave a child in a hot car wouldn't buy something like this.
The parents who leave their kids in cars wouldn't purchase this. But it is cool.
thank God for this brilliant child. his parents raised him well.
There have been attempts to market such products before, but the attempts have failed because so many people have the judgemental, holier than thou attitude displayed by several of the posters. These types refuse to believe they could ever do this so they refuse to consider buying such a device. But a change in routine, especially if compounded by a lack of sleep, is all it taked.
The device cannot work. Learn a bit about thermodynamics.
Load More Replies...I think people whom leave their children in a car alone even for 5 min needs to have their license revoked and pay a hefty fine and take parenting classes. There shouldn't be any excuse why a child should be left alone period in a car etc..... no device should be a baby sitter, what if that device malfunctions,? What if it burst into flames???
that is the best i have seen all day since the last time i saw this A-good-nig...e891e9.jpg
I'm curious about how it is intended to work. I like the theory. What stops it from monitoring the temp when no one is in the car? Does it have to somehow be activated? Seems if the driver can remember to activate this device, they should be able to remember to take their kids or pets out of the vehicle.
Not to mention, how is it supposed to violate the laws of physics and generate cold air in an amount that can make a difefrence?
Load More Replies...I hope all of you judging never have to experience the hell of losing your child and knowing you could have prevented it. It is an unimaginable horror that i hope none of you ever have to experience
This should come with every car. Hopefully it becomes a law.
It does not work, plain and simple. Never will, never can..
Load More Replies...Don't fund this..encourages terrible parenting and is probably a scam!
This is nothing but fantasy. There is no way this thing could produce enough "cold air" to make a difference.
Wow, this young man has more heart and intelligence than most adults! I hope he is encouraged to become an inventor! He has a bright future!
if the parents are to stupid to pay attention to their kids roasting in a car what make you think they will pay attention to the alarm?
While I can't think of a scenario where a parent that would actually leave their child in the hot car would buy one of these I hope some do. One life saved is worth it. Good on this child for experiencing a tragedy and finding a solution.
Maybe such device could be assembled inne cars as standard? It can help every one.
There is no such device though, it's just a plastic toy and an impossible idea.
Load More Replies...But won't it go off and alert authorities every time the car gets hot. How does it know a child or dog is in the car? How much "cool air" could that thing emit? Not enough to make a dent in the heat, I assure you.
The only way this would work is by leaving it in the car at all times. Such that when you do remember to take the kid out of the car, the interior of the car will still get very hot. The device will still kick in, and the parents will still get the notification. How many times will this device be able to work properly under these conditions before the battery will die, and the "coldness" of this device will need to be recharged?
The "coldness" won't work at all, not in an amount that can make any difference.
Load More Replies...Wonderful invention!! This should be seen by The Sharks or Ellen. Now I facetiously wonder why this has not been on the news everywhere. If he had been involved with a gang or even BLM, his face & name would be plastered on national news smdh. Thanks again, young man despite the ensuing discussion having disintegrated into fingerpointing about poor parenting. You are the future that diversity allows.
It's not everywhere because it simply does not exist, ignorance at best, a pure scam at worst. The suggested item simply can't be done due to laws of thermodynamics.
Load More Replies...I think its commendable that this young man invented this. However, I feel that most "parents" simply forget their child is in the car. With that line of thinking, they will also forget to attach this device. Children and animals should never be left in the car unattended.
He may be a smart and undoubtedly compassionate kid, but...Thermodynamics. You can't make something cool without making something else hot. If that thing is blow cool air, it's also blowing hot air, which it would need to vent somewhere outside the car. It could have a tiny source of expandable gas inside for a one-time cold charge, but that wouldn't be enough to save anyone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MiQCBIx1mM
This is a wonderful idea and I hope it works and all future parents own them. But this is a bandaid for the issue. You all will once again say I'm judgemental. Well so be it. Parents today are in such a rush. To busy to remove their child for a 5 minute trip into the store for milk. However many 5 minute trips end up being 20 minutes or more of I "forgot this" so I'll take 5 more minutes here and there to end up being 30 or more by the time you get through checkout. Be HONEST people. How many of you have done that? I have gone to the store for milk to finish dinner (family dinner) to return an hour later! Dinner was late and everyones tempers were flaring because I decided I had more time than I really did!! If you need to go for a quick trip to the grocery, LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN with someone. They are safer. If you do take them, TAKE THE TIME TO REMOVE THEM FROM THEIR SEATS AND TAKE THEM WITH YOU. There is NO acceptable excuse to neglect your babies EVER!
I'm a parent and consider myself cautious one. But I wouldn't ever tell that parents who left their children in a hot car by accident are bad parents. We're all just people. Some years ago I've read about mother who drive her older daughter to the kindergarten and went to work. It was a hot and sunny day. Some time later she recalled bringing her younger daughter to the car as well, instead of driving her to grandparents, and rushed to the car in horror. Her younger daughter was there, in agony from the hot temperature inside the car. She didn't make it. The mother almost went insane. Was she a bad parent? No, just a human who made a terrible mistake.
Put your cell phone on the back seat with your precious package. You never forget that.
I don't see the bad parents who leave their kids (and pets) in hot cars buying this. Moreover, I feel like this would encourage that even more?
WHY are people still leaving children and pets in their hot cars. I just don't get it. Should these people know not to do this....EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Smart and lovely kid but terrible idea. Children or animals should never be left alone in cars.
This is a TERRIBLE invention. now parents will just 'be a minute' while it's 120 degree's outside, but since they will have this, they don't need to bother taking the kid with them. this device will cause MORE deaths for sure. Do not support this invention
There is no invention, just an idea that can't be done.
Load More Replies...Wow! you must be very stressed to forget your son in a car. I can't imagine how this can happen.
Love this. I understand the concern of bad parentings or whatever but it may save a life!!!
So this device will encourage parents to leave their children in the car and wander around?
I believe this should be a car feature, not a stand alone product. It would not encourage negligence or forgetfulness, just possibly prevent tragedy. Take an airbag, for example - it's an in-built car feature that definitely does not encourage car crashes, just possibly prevents the driver to get more serious injuries.
Load More Replies...Really appreciate this effort, but this actually encourages moral hazard... The ones who are likely to buy this are likely to be the ones who think that hey I don't have to worry about leaving my kid in the car now that this nifty device will keep my kid cool. I really appreciate the kid's intent and hope he keeps inventing though, the world needs more inventors like him.
Clearly, the problem here comes from the poor baby's parents/babysitter/whoever thought (can we talk about thinking in that case) it was ok to leave a 6 month old in a car alone (not even talking about the temperature). But this kid can't do anything about people not thinking enough, so he tries to make the difference another way. That makes him a good personne. Even if I deplore that some people need a reminder/safety to protect their children for their way of "taking care" of kids, this Bishop boy is someone good, caring for the others and trying to find solutions to help them and he should be encouraged. Plus, talking of his invention may be a way to make people realise how dangerous leaving a kid in a car is.
So they invented thermometer? Connected thermometer? It "emits cool air"? Where does this "cool air" comes from? It is just hot air with a fan? Or is it a miniature AC-unit - and then, same question, since even AC do not generate cold air out of the blue? And maybe someday we'll be taught that being constantly submitted to antennas, magnetics fields, etc, is a more common health issue cause than being forgotten in a hot car/cold car/whatever car. Not to mention that if you can forget your kid in a car, you can also forget the change the accus in the "connected thermometer". So what do I think? Nice that the kid want to invent something. But it looks like something invented by a 10 yo with no adult to teach him better.
Calm down, a kid did something cute. No need to get angry over it.
Load More Replies...This is "social justice narrative" nonsense. A "genius black child" did f**k-all. In fact if her wanted to help he could figure out a way to make it possible for more black chillruns to get left in hot cars...

Welll thats r******d. What happens if no baby is in the backseat and the cops get autocalled when you park outside of a store for an hour in the middle of summer? Nobody thought of that? Derp derp de der.
Cheapest action of all?? THINK!! "Hmmm...its 95° outside. Should I leave the baby/child/pet in the car??!" should NEVER even be a question going through your head!!!!
really ?? pretty sad when you have to invent some device to remind idiots that they have a child in the car....there is NO excuse for leaving a child or animal in a car...NONE....how about becoming responsible parents, get you head out of your a*s, and have some common sense....jeesh....
What is worse, all of these spam articles or the atrocious spelling errors throughout. Written by 12 year olds.
Just in general what's mind blowing is how someone forgets their own child in a hot car... I just can't wrap my mind around that. You don't just forget.. I'd never forget my son in a car. I think there are too many dumbass' on planet earth who don't need children to begin with.
I wouldn't have it alert parents - they're the ones who left the child in the car in the first place. Have it alert 911 instead!
Personally, I think his family is treating this, and him, like a cash cow. A sweet and kind idea, but it'd never really work since the problems causing those car deaths can be boiled down to Human STUPIDITY.
Great idea but why are people leaving children in cars? No matter how difficult it might seem to remove them for a few minutes it needs to be done.
I know that when my children were young, we did not take our eyes off of them. It did not matter where we were, our children were always within earshot and usually within plain sight. We understood the dangers of being an absent minded parent, or a parent who could care less. I cannot understand any person being so absent minded that they let their child die in a hot car. At the very least that person should be liable for negligent homicide.
It is impossible to "forget" your kid in a car, you just subconsciously wanted them to disappear
I applaud the kid. But sadly, this is something that has to be purchased by the parents...and really, do you see a parent who cares so little to leave a kid in a car on a hot day buying this gadget? Common sense...don't leave your kid in the car...actually EVER! Never mind the heat, you are leaving them unsupervised! There have been accidents, because kids have gotten behind the wheel and started messing with things. There have been cases where the car was stolen with a child in a car seat in the back. It is just irresponsible to leave a child in a car.
All of you judgemental a******s need to read the Washington Post article on this subject. It is life changing. Also eff you if you think this is bad parenting. Eff. You.
I don't think anyone denies it's a tragedy and the parents wouldn't have wanted it to happen. However, the fact that it's a tragedy that occurred to them doesn't excuse their careless or negligence for causing the tragedy in the first place. If another person left your kid in the car and she suffered, he/she would be blamed and be responsible for whatever occurred. Why should it be any different if the one being careless was the kid's own parent? Also wow, what a cogent argument: Eff You. That really brings your point across.
Load More Replies...Why is he described as a "10 year old boy called Bishop Curry", instead of a "10 year old boy named Bishop Curry?" Aside from that, his "invention" is merely an idea at this point. In no way can something that small emit cool air in any quantity, let alone enough to provide any measurable difference in the temperature of a closed car. As far as signalling someone of the car's temperature, who is it going to alert? The person(s) who left the child alone in the car? The police, each jurisdiction having their own different radio frequencies? I applaud the young man's enthusiasm but his talents and efforts would be better spent on more workable ideas.
Bad idea. Just going to give bad parents an excuse to leave their children unattended in vehicles. Then when the product fails like all products eventually do the death toll will be even greater. I don't see any good outcome from this product. Plain and simple, don't leave children or pets unattended in vehicles or anywhere else for that matter. That being said, I do think that this child's heart is in the right place and hope that he doesn't get detoured from inventing life saving devices. I personally just don't believe in this particular case.
Wonderful mind and a terrific idea. You will never stop "BAD PARENTING"" but to prevent the loss of an innocent is quite noble. And for those who feel that this loss of a child is a mistake, it isn't. It is NEGLECT! Anyone who doesn't realize that is probably someone who would do the same thing. It stems from not wanting to be bothered to remove the child from the vehicle for a short dash into the store. Leave your child with someone because a 5 minute run for milk can and often does turn into 20 minutes of I forgot this and that. Five minutes or longer waiting in line and by the time you return, it's to late to save your greatest gift, your child!
Anyone who needs a "device" to let them know when their kid is boiling in a car shouldn't have kids.
If you're dipsy enough to forget a treasured child then you're dipsy enough to forget a device....
Surely if you're dipsy enough to forget your child then you're dipsy enough to forget a device? Lovely thoughtful child, I hope he does well.
Anyone who needs a device to send them an alert when their kid is boiling in a car doesn't need to have kids in the first place.
There is no way this 10 year old kid invented anything. His father put him up to it. It's not even invented yet...it's a clay model of an idea ffs. How is this even a story?
First he wanted to find how it would be possible for black kids to have a dad but... Finally the "hot cars" problem was more easy to resolve.
What the heck is wrong with you?? That's just flat out racist

Load More Replies...To me car seats should have an alarm that sounds off whenever the weight of a baby is sitting in the seat and the temp. reaches a set temp. an alarm sounds. Why this has not been done yet baffles me. We have alarms for everything, why not something that saves lives.

Apparently not. It's sad isn't it. The majority of people that do this do it accidentally and have to live with that for the rest of their lives. Then this kid sees a way to help.
Load More Replies...Judge not, that ye be not judged. [2] For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Karma is a beast. Choose what you say. Life has a way of paying you back and showing you why!
People tell me I need to stop overanalyzing things but the funny thing is I am more aware than the people that say that so maybe they should take advice from me since they ain't aware of anything
I was at my work place and this lady was on her phone while her kid was climbing on different things, he was about to climb on the garbage can until I stopped and lucky I did because the kid would have tried to climb on it and would have fallen since the garbage can had wheels on it, my co-worker said it's not in our guidelines to watch their kids and I just look at her like no wonder why people are such pieces of s**t, they only do things cause of money, I do things out of morals
Load More Replies...Why would you leave your most precious belonging in a car, well done young man for realising the wrong and trying to fix it , I would rather have left my money!!!! For one to leave such a gift unattended they need our prayers and support . 🌟
Load More Replies...Why not you Americans do what Australia's do: In all states and territories in Australia it is against the law to leave any minor in a vehicle unattended despite weather conditions. Fines are given to parents who break this law and will be assessed to see whether they are fit to be a parent by the Department of Children Services. It is a really effective system.
If you need to be reminded to take your children out of the car you shouldn't be a parent.
I very much doubt a 10 year old invented this...and it's not even invented yet...it's a clay model of an idea ffs.
Major eyeroll at all the people who are saying "Meh I could have done it myself". I too, could have become a Nobel laureate. I just didn't choose to.
Not very hard to come up with a plastic toy and an idea. The idea isn't an actual invention though since it's plain not possible to do what they claim, it would violate the laws of physics.
Load More Replies...I've just invented a revolutionary machine, i only have a drawing of it right now, that can *restore* children accidentally left in too hot cars from a backup. Can i get $24k too if i make a clay model? Clone_O_Ma...f98793.jpg
No one's stopping you from trying. I'm sure you can find the GoFundMe page by yourself.
Load More Replies...Kudos for the kid for trying to fix this problem but I believe that there already is a device that is supposed to be used when a parent leaves a child alone in a car and goes shopping: depravation of parental rights. What kind of stupid, lazy bastard you have to be to leave a child alone in a car for more than 2 minutes? It's sad that we live in a world where issues like this even exist.
Load More Replies...What the.? A printed plastic box that 'blows cool air' isn't an invention any more than a printed plastic box that 'allows time travel' is an invention. Yes, the great idea here is promoting infant safety but $24K funding for what is essentially a physical impossibility. Are people plain morons? Wait... no... errmmm...
This is really sweet. I'm proud of this young man, but in reality a gadget like this will only encourage people to do something they should NOT be doing, which is leaving a child unattended in a vehicle.
Gadget won't do anything since gadget is impossible to create, he has a plastic toy and an impossible idea.
Load More Replies...Great invention. Try taking it to Shark Tank. I bet they all would want to help you by funding this product
They would read the application and toss it in the bin, maybe laugh a bit since it is impossible to actually create.
Load More Replies...This is a great invention. You should take it to shark tank. I'm sure they would team up with you to make this
No, it's thermodynamically not feasible. Where does the heat go extracted from the air to cool the air? Yep, still in the car. How much power would it take to run this? Some type of cooling system, a fan to move air around, ... it's all BS.
Load More Replies...I applaud this young man for doing such a thing.... but the real problem here is PARENTS! .... THEY Should never leave their children alone in a car, nevertheless a HOT CAR!!! Nor should you leave an animal alone in a hot car ... it's just inhuman !!!!!!
I applaud him for doing such an amazing thing.... But REAL PROBLEM is that the parents should NEVER leave their children in the car alone on a hot day ... or should they leave their pets!! .... It's just inhuman!
People can remember their damned phones but need a device to remember their children??? Ummm.. Does anyone else see something wrong with this bloody picture?
This little spade didn't invent s**t. What a bunch of "social justice narrative" c**p. Six month old little spook dies, boo-hoo, there will fifteen to take it's place.
Load More Replies...If you're so busy that you forget you have a kid, you should not have a kid. No excuses.
Did you know it can take only 10 minutes before a baby is dead though? It means that even when a parent realises relatively quickly it made a horrible mistake, it can be too late very quickly.
