A little over a year ago I made a small painting of a pirate and posted it on my Facebook profile in honor of Talk Like A Pirate Day. The next day I changed it to a cowboy, and the day after that a mummy. It was kind of fun and my friends were responding positively, so I continued with a hipster, a mime, a fly, a robot… and then someone asked, “Are you going to do a new one every day?” I thought about it, then said, “Yes. 365 of them, every day for a year.”

Sometimes I would do a theme like the Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland.

Other days I would be inspired by the season or a specific holiday like Mother’s Day.

I kept little lists for ideas in case I ever got stuck, but that never really happened. Toward the end I often didn’t know what I was going to do when I sat down to draw and was curious to see what would happen.
