Cannot upvote this enough. Also, some days I don't want to keep reading dark m****r mysteries and want a bit of fluff literature instead. Or a new book drops. Or STFU and live your own life.

And we'll re-read it again and again over the years and cry every time. A certain scene in one of Stephen King's Dark Tower books comes to mind for me. I know the moment is coming, I know it's happening, but I'll bawl every time anyway.

It's Embarrassing And So Hard
LakotaWolf (she/her) 2 days ago
I've often tried to explain the stories that live in my own head (that I've never gotten around to writing down, lol. And I was an English/Creative Writing major. sigh.) I realize that, no matter how good the plot sounds in my head, no matter how clever and witty the characters are when they talk to each other in my head, the person I try to explain them to just looks at me and is like "So it's about four talking doglike creatures who wander through the desert looking for a giant escalator???" Me: No! I mean... actually, yes, BUT--

I Rate Books On How It Made Me Feel Btw
LakotaWolf (she/her) 2 days ago
Gentle disagree to a certain extent - I've read some really well-written books, and that makes it difficult to read the poorly-written ones sometimes. I get yanked out of my immersion constantly by poor wording or really poor sentence structure, and it really makes it so I can't enjoy the plot or characters, no matter how good the story itself might be.

I love concepts of tiny public libraries where you can bring your books to and you can take some home. People get creative to create them. Sometimes it is an old telephone booth, sometimes a bookshelf in a shop. You rarely find the latest books but I have found some good ones that were new to me.

I’m a horror genre fanatic and this is literally the stages of reading and finishing a book (From Top Left to Top Right) 1. Excited to start the book 2. I feel like Ik how it’s going to end 3. Ooo “scary” part that isn’t scary 4. Why did the main character just do that. 5. Uh… 6. Actual scary part!! 7. RUN FORREST RUN!! 8. THATS how it ends?????

I'm a lifelong reader/book lover, just like my dad was. We were the kind of people who would read the cereal box at breakfast and the shampoo bottle on the toilet because we didn't want to be away from reading something XD He got me my first "all access" library card when I was 6. (Our city's library is truly glorious - 115,000 sq ft/10,700 m sq, and nearly 400,000 books!) My mom and sister, on the other hand, will PROUDLY state that they hate reading. My sister hasn't read a book since high school (she's 50.) No one has to love reading, but being proud of hating to read has always baffled me.

Far more interesting poll coming - my GP recently expressed bewildered amazement at the concept of rereading books. Personally I always loved how each rereading brought new little details or insights, but...I'm now wondering how odd it really is that several of my favourites have sellotape holding the pages in place. So: to reread endlessly or not to reread?
Lee Gilliland 2 days ago
Reread. I actually usually have one new and one reread going at the same time.
