Someone Apologizes For Blindly Hating On Women Without Seeing The Full Picture, Gets Mixed Reactions

As we get older, our perspectives change and we gain the ability to look back differently on events we remember. We can only hope that one of those changes is being able to look back with more empathy.

This Tumblr user’s post about some famously vilified women highlights how easily pop culture and news can take sides against certain figures and the public can latch onto it. That negative impression can take years or decades for us to reconsider as adults with empathy for someone whose personal life ended up in the public eye, and without something to prove to our peers by laughing and agreeing with vicious headlines.

The post gives examples of women who were viciously mocked for situations that spiraled out of their control and did the most harm to them, as well as those who were reduced to casting or creative choices that didn’t go over as well as expected and stuck to them for the rest of their careers to come.

A Tumblr user made a post taking back the judgmental statements they’d believed

*We note that while the user writes that Monica Lewinsky was assaulted, Lewinsky herself describes her 1996 affair with then-president Bill Clinton as consensual, but indeed a “gross abuse of power.”

I'll add - Taylor Swift for looking at her like if there's anything wrong with having a couple of boyfriends. Miley Cyrus for criticizing her for experimenting and growing up her own way.

Sergio: What is wrong about multiple relationships? As long as they're consensual - there's no issue. She's not hurting anybody by it.

Even at 19 I never judged Lewinsky, but I still think Linda Tripp is a snake for exposing Lewisky against her wishes.

While she has acknowledged the imbalance of power, Monica Lewinsky has repeatedly said that her encounters with Clinton were consensual. To call her a victim of sexual assault is to deny her agency.

Consensual but he was in a position of power, he should have been the responsible one. But I get your point. I just still think many of us (including myself) should look into their conscience and realize that the amount of judgment that she received was nowhere close to the size of her mistake. And therefore she definitely has her place on the list of famous women that many of us owe our apologies to.

If you ever have a chance and are interest Monica did a TED talk that is pretty eye opening. It is completely worth viewing and can be found on Youtube.

F**k Lewisnski SHE has managed to forget in earlier investigation SHE WENT AFTER CLINTON. He did not just suddenly proposition her. She flirted with him and at one time lifted her skirt to show the tiny panties she was wearing. ABUSE my f*****g a*s. IT was not a one time thing either. It went on for a while. Not apologizing to that b***h. She deserves EVERY Bit of scorn and even hate for helping to try and bring down a president when that fat b***h who got ahold of her dress and immediately took it to the republicans didn't do it for "patriotic" reasons as she lied about. She did out of hate for Bill. F**K them both. Craig Ferguson had the right idea about Brittany when she had the mental breakdown and said he would NEVER make fun of her as she was obviously have a breakdown and not deserving of being made fun of. Total respect for that attitude and I had already said the same when he said it the next night. Never gave any of the others any thoughts other than Megan was lousy actress

Yeah, uhm, no. I'm not buying that whole "she kept the dress to extort money" nonsense. She kept the dress to back up her story. She was smeared nightly on the news, called everything under the sun (while Clinton sucked up lots of investigation money by denying, lying and being totally evasive, and getting away with it for so very long, with no real consequences). She was laughed at, belittled, her supposedly best friend tried to entrap her. She was denied access to attorneys and threatened if she didn't go along with the investigators.......and then she told about the dress. EVERYONE backed the hell up and off of her and immediately, she became almost a non-story. NO ONE wanted to her from her, about this, or anything. Hell, even Clinton couldn't figure out how to define the "is". She was guilty of being naive, and easily seduced by nothing more than a womanizing troll.

Although he is not a woman: I apologize to Justin Bieber for criticizing him for getting into the same stupid things all teenagers get into. Most just don't have the whole world watching their every move.

Can't blame him for things he said (dumb teenager, been one myself many years ago) but his acts say so much about him. I mean, you don't spit to your fans, you don't go to another country and step on their flag. That's just plain jercky.

I'm annoyed about the Anti-Lewinsky commetns. She was 22, a young and fairly inexperienced girl and bedazzled by an incredibly charismatic man who was old enough to know better. (Although, why it cost him his job to have an affair with a consenting adult still remains a mystery to me. It's not illegal and his wife clearly didn't mind overly much. But, hey, I'm not American and don't have to understand these weird double standards)

From what I gathered over the time (I'm not an American either) the issue wasn't really the affair itself but that he lied about it (under oath!) and denied it.

A consensual affair ≠ assault just because he was in a position of authority.
