Woman In London

In six days, the UK government will close a public consultation on the meaning of Woman.

This meaning – adult human female – has been deemed problematic by certain people, and even described as hate speech.

Women’s voices have been shouted down and silenced; a billboard in Liverpool and signs on buses in Edinburgh with the definition of Woman were removed due to this manufactured controversy.

In response to the growing efforts to silence reality and stifle democracy, a small group of women projected the words “woman – adult human female” on various landmark buildings throughout London.

The leader of the campaign, known as Posie Parker, said:

“If they won’t let me have legitimate things in the side of f***ing buses, then this is what I’m gonna have to do.”

Posie Parker and many thousands of other women across the UK claim that the word Woman is being diluted and erased through efforts to be inclusive – phrases such as “cervix havers,” “menstruators,” “chest feeding,” etc confuse what women are in policy and practice.

Women are a protected class in the Equality Act 2010 and this “light grafitti” serves as a reminder to the UK government, media and citizenry that there is a legal obligation to maintain that distinction.
