One of the more uncomfortable truths for anyone to accept is when they learn about their spouse’s infidelity. For many, it can feel like trying to down an entire jigger of battery acid, where things can only get worse from the jump.

Some people, however, have it in them not to say anything immediately. They would rather let everything marinate until it reaches its eventual breaking point.

This is exactly what a woman did upon discovering her husband’s affair. But instead of confronting him right away, she waited ten years and quietly collected evidence. And when the time came for her moment of revenge, she made sure it was epic.

Infidelity isn’t limited to people who are dissatisfied with their relationship

Unhappiness is one of the most common reasons why people cheat on their significant others. Some dissatisfaction in the relationship goes ignored instead of addressed, which can lead one partner to go astray.

Often, couples work through it through therapy and necessary compromises. But in some cases, it just so happens that the unfaithful individual found someone else who swept them off their feet.

“It may be that someone else comes along that they are really taken by or that they wind up spending a lot of time with, and it slowly develops over time,” Clinical psychologist and University of Denver professor Dr. Galena Rhoades tells the American Psychological Association. “And it may not actually be reflective of being deeply unhappy in their relationship.”

Dr. Rhoades adds that if the cheater becomes strongly connected with their affair partner, ending the infidelity could be more difficult. Ultimately, mending the broken relationship would be challenging, too.

In the story’s case, it was likely when the author’s husband “met the love of his life” and started bringing the affair partner to their house. At that point, the woman knew their relationship was in rapid decline, so she began gathering evidence.

Relationships damaged by infidelity are fixable, unless the erring partner crosses the line

Some relationships can persist through the storm of infidelity. While it will take a lot of time to heal and regain trust, reparations are possible.

However, there comes a point where parting ways may be the best solution. Here is an explanation by author and former psychologist Leon Seltzer:

“Unless their betrayed partner has unequivocally crossed the line and determined to exit the relationship, there’s still hope that, with or without professional assistance, what has been broken can—slowly but surely—be repaired.”

The husband not only crossed the line by involving his affair partner in his private family life, but he also clearly made his choice. While the woman’s revenge act isn’t ideal, it was the necessary move for her to make at the time, one that would give her peace.

Outing people as queer is dangerous and I wouldn't recommend it, no matter what- but the rest makes sense and is fair. I would've left sooner tho personally
