I am active in Animal Rescue. I always see folks trying to get rid of their animals for different reasons such as I'm moving, we are having a baby, I'm going on vacation, they're too old and pee everywhere, or my favorite (sarcasm), I work and the pet is too lonely.

Dump? Never! Only a truly fowl human would literally dump an animal out on the streets to fend for itself. But responsible re-homing is absolutely a valid path if the animal and its needs are not compatible with a given family. Most of my pets were originally strays or came from other people who couldn't keep them. Not every critter can fit into a given home; sometimes there are other animals or humans that aren't compatible, or the living situation just isn't going to work. I've re-homed a couple awesome dogs (both strays that wandered up our driveway) that proved to be too high-energy to live here (I care for my elderly parents full time), but both pups are now thriving in loving homes with kids who love to run and play!
