Even though you might deny it, it won’t change the fact that you live in a world created by marketers. Advertising is a powerful force that had shaped our attitudes and behavior since the early 19th-century when it got into newspapers, and the early 1940s when it got into television.
With great power comes great responsibility, but try telling that to someone working in the advertising field in the early 20th century. Even today, advertising doesn’t try very hard to conform to moral standards, but after looking back at some offensive, racist, sexist and over-the-top funny ads – today’s commercials are as good as gold.
Besides being sexist ads, they were also full of lies promoting unhealthy habits. Interesting fact – the first vintage ad to use a sexual sell was created by a woman for soap as early as 1911. The campaign was so successful, that the slogan “A Skin You Love To Touch” was used until the 1940s. Whether we like it or not, it is a piece of history worth seeing for everyone. Enjoy these offensive vintage ads and banned commercials and do take them lightheartedly.

Guys, can anyone help me, please? Where can i buy posters like these? My boyfriend is a huge fan of them but his collection burnt a couple of years ago in a fire :( i would love to help him start a new collection of such posters from the USA. Can anyone tell me, please, where i can order these? Thank you for any information :)
Does anyone recall how a reputable firm started using a little girl in bra commercials. She would be in a room filled with morning sunlight and ask her older friend why she wore a bra. The friend would draw nearer and a teenage girls voice would give the answer For An Irresistible Figure. This advert appeared in the afternoons very close to the younger peoples programmes . It caused quite a stir as it continued airing. But now no one even remembers it and it is never featured in the archives now seen on the internet. For some reason it disappeared without trace and the style and scenario was never repeated.
Actually, blacks and women did speak up. It's wrong to think they played a passive role. The ads that were blatant, transitioned to innuendo and eventually, when the marketing world realized no money was made on offensive ads, they disappeared into the dustpan of history. If you read black magazines, like Ebony , Jet, etc., you'd always see protest letters by readers and editorials about the ads. Coca-cola was probably one of the first majors to put blacks in ads (There were black ad execs hired specifically for this purpose by Mad Ave) The NAACP and other black civil rights groups also attacked the ads and successfully lead boycotts of products and such. So to believe that blacks and other "minorities" stood by and allowed these negative stereotypes to continue without criticism is wrong. On the other hand, you can pick up old black publications and see stereotypes and "offensive" ads- like skin-lighteners and hair straighteners. Go figure...
Sure, you must not understand what you just said. You said, Blacks and women were in on the jokes, but they also didn't stand by and let the ad be published without protest. So, what you are saying is that women and minorities were sensitized to the damage done by stereotypes, but that some also fought against the stereotypes or ""offensive"" ads (I guess since you gelt the need to place offensive is quotes, you don't see them as offensive). And.... the story continues to this day. We have Candice Owen's and Kanye's cultivating the ignorance everywhere; we also have many more who are awake. Nothing has changed. Same paradigm, but with a slight shift.

Hard to believe that these were just accepted. The things today will be shunned later on like the women wearing vaginas
Ahh, the good ol' days! When people didn't take offence at the slightest thing. A wolf whistle was a compliment, not sexual harassment! I'm not into PC in any way, it curbs freedom of speech which is vital in a free country, but some of them are a bit dodgy, the baby shaving for instance! as regards the "Black & White" ads. no one took offence, we never even thought of it the same as today's petty people. But then, racism only works one way!
Oh, I'm sure they took offense. The problem was that they were women or black....considered minories and were not ALLOWED to have a voice. All of the voices creating those ads were WHITE MEN none of which CARED what women or black people thought of the ads (obviously) or how they made them feel!! I wonder how they would have reacted had ads for say...a penis pump popping up back then created by women showing a woman quietly laughing behind a naked mans back asking "Need one of these....your lady thinks so." Or maybe a sports car ad that states, "Got a small stick? This is the BEST compensation". I think maybe as compensation to those affected minorities, current manufacturing companies should start creating ads now targeting and belittling WHITE men and see how they feel about that.
