“Decided To Fall Apart Before My Wedding”: 59 Times Things Broke In The Most Unexpected Ways
Everything has a beginning and an end. However, as much as people like to think we know when it’s time, we don’t. At least not entirely. And to prove that, we collected a list of pictures that show ordinary objects just giving up and giving out.

Do Bridges Have Weight Limits?
This is a bunch of years old now, but it happened near me. Apparently, the company doing this house move applied for a permit from the county for this move, but the county rejected the original permit because of the weight limit on this bridge. The county instead ended up issued a permit to take a different (and much longer) route instead. But I guess the driver wanted to save a few minutes.
The house was eventually extricated from this situation and sits in its new home a couple of miles east of this bridge to this day. I wonder if the new residents even know the history? (and if they checked the beams underneath for damage!)
The road in that location was closed for at least a year while the bridge was rebuilt.

In her old apartment, my daughter-in-law displayed crystal that had been given to her by deceased relatives. She put it on a high, out of the way shelf so it would be safe. Came home one day to find crystal shards all over the floor. Come to find out that the shelf had been installed with the brackets upside down. Collapse was inevitable. She was heartbroken.

Duh! It uses active circuitry, and builders aren't running power lines *into* doors on a routine basis. Since we don't have practical beaming of power yet, batteries are the cheapest 'line of least resistance' (no pun intended) to make electronic locks work. I used to use fireproof media safes at work to store backup tapes. The keypads for the combinations also used batteries.

At my parents’ condo development, they had to change all the locks to the gates because so many past tenants had made a dozen copies and handed them out to friends like candy. The new locks physically won’t accept the old keys - yet people keep forcing them in and breaking them off, necessitating repeated replacements. More than one person was caught on camera hammering their old key into the lock with a rock, seemingly believing that if they could physically get the key inside the lock it would somehow work.
