Goldfish Helps His Friend Who Is Too Sick To Swim And Eat, Shows That They Have Feelings Too

A remarkable video shows a pet goldfish helping his sick friend stay alive. The owner of the fish noticed that the darker of the two has a mobility problem and started wondering how it managed to survive for so long. He decided to solve the mystery by filming the secret life in the aquarium. The footage left him in awe…The goldfish was helping the sick friend to reach the food floating on the surface.

It is unclear what the driving factor behind the fish’s apparently benevolent behavior was. One thing is sure – with new scientific research emerging, we understand that these creatures are way more complex than we previously thought.

Jonathan Balcombe, the director of animal sentience with the Humane Society Institute for Science and Policy, writes: “As a biologist who specializes in animal behavior and emotions, I’ve spent the past four years exploring the science on the inner lives of fishes. What I’ve uncovered indicates that we grossly underestimate these fabulously diverse marine vertebrates. The accumulating evidence leads to an inescapable conclusion: Fishes think and feel.”

I had 2 large goldfish and lost one to swim bladder disease. The other was highly stressed for days, swimming up & down in one corner. I then brought home 3 little, skinny feeder goldfish. She just stayed back & watched them. For three days, she would just watch them eat when I fed, as they were very thin and famished. On the fourth day, she resumed eating. I am sure she was letting them have all the food on purpose. 18 months later, I now have 4 big fat goldfish.

Fish are more complex than we give them credit for. I used to have a saltwater tank. When one of my porcupine puffers became sick, it hid itself for a few days in a back corner behind some rocks. Every time I peeked back there to check on it, its eyes would meet mine, and it would wave a fin.

Fish are so much complicated than we think. They can understand what you say identify you and can even respond. My tinfoil come to the corner of my tank to check whether i am home as soon as i enter home. swim to the side which i am facing them, make faces when they are hungry and moves it's mouth like it's replying. I thought i was just making up all these things in my mind. Yeah fish are the only affordable pets for most but sadly they can't afford rich aquariums and stuff. Most novice buyers never know how much the fish will grow

I've kept fish for a few years now, and I've seen a lot of things which suggest that fish have complex personalities. Perhaps it's harder to see at first because they're behind a sheet of glass, but people really underestimate fish.

This is a wonderful relationship but I think he should start feeding them a different kind of food, one that sinks to the bottom of the aquarium instead of floating on the surface. It would be easier for both of them.

Gentle reminder that goldfish need at least a 40 gallon tank. They can get around 14 inches in length. The whole "grows to the size of their environment" is a HUGE lie. Their body stunts and the organs keep growing which eventually leads them to suffocating on their intestines. The more you know!

In my uncle's house there was a fish tank and there was a goldfish that basically got stuck in the rocks and it got stuck there for like a couple of minutes and then 2 other goldfishes came and dragged it out, the next day it got stuck again and the goldfishes who helped him before were like seriously again i aint helping this time and then it died and the fishes helped it out and it was floating on top of the tank. Fishes are smarter than we think.

Two of my three goldfish are doing this exact thing right now. That is why I was looking this up. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My fish was upsidedown dying and I was trying to swim her around to get her some air thru her gills since its worked to help a pet fish before. It wasn't working so I accepted failure and cried for her because there was nothing I could do. I left the tank for a few hours because I couldn't watch and when I came back my biggest guy was under her nudging her upright - making her swim. He's still doing it now, hours later, when necessary but she's swimming around just fine. I cannot believe it. It's so amazing. I love my fishies so much.

We had a 'mama' koi (fancy asian carp) who used to herd all the smaller koi to the food, making sure they had gotten enough to eat before allowing the other bigger fish to eat. Every time. Never fail. The older koi also liked being petted every now and then(!) We would dangle our fingers in the pond, and they'd nibble at our fingers gently and rub up against them. They'd come when they were called, and we observed individual friendships between them. There were two that were inseparable. (Which made it really heartbreaking when a heron got one of the pair. That poor thing was never the same. :( We ended up giving them to an experienced owner who had an indoor pond, to protect them.) I feel like most animals are actually far more intelligent than most people give them credit for.

I once had two fish that had babies together. Everything was hunky dory until one day, very unfortunately, the filter on the tank sucked the babies up and the couple then had no babies left. It seemed the mother blamed the father for the deaths as the two fought thereafter until I had to finally separate them. Fish have feelings! So glad I stopped eating salmon!

Please try and get this message across to them at any cost or if so. Eine knows the owners... Just type "goldfish helped to swim with floatation device". An easy way to make one is with cork. Two goldfish owners have done this for their goldfish and they swim really well now and their life is comfortable again. Please get this message to them somehow. I hope the little guy gets this and swims well again.

If this message could reach them or someone knows them, please tell them to make a floatation device out of cork... It's very simple if they look online. There are two other posts online where it has completely helped the fish live comfortably and swim well. Please try and let this message reach them somehow. I hope the poor guy is helped through this. Type "goldfish helped to swim with floatation device" in Google search.
