Storage Company Charges Client For Something That Never Existed, So She Pretends Like It Does And Now They Have To Find It

This reminds me of the time (famous portable storage solution) told me I had never paid and sent my account to collections despite them cashing an e-check for the exact amount 2 months before collection calls started. They called me a liar over the phone. Like didn't even try to pretend. I said look at your transaction records around this day because that's when it cleared my bank. I have the records showing you got payment from my bank and the email receipt from you guys. The lady on the phone "none of that ever happened, quit lying and pay your bill"

Many years ago, my parent bought their first Color tv ( yes, it was that long ago) on a store credit card, opened specifically to get a deal on the tv. It was a major purchase. It wasdelivered but the charge for the tv never showed up. My mother actually went to the store and talked to a man in the credit department (back in late 60s, there was a credit department in each major department store that handled the transactions. He actually argued with her and said she never purchased the tv or had one delivered to the house. He was so condescending that she checked herself and said ok, you are absolutely right and left. Result was a free color tv.

I ended up with a free portable AC unit (the kind with a ductwork hose that vents out the window and there's a tank of condensation you have to empty) when the military housing company forgot to document that it was placed in our unit. When we PCSed, we tried to give it back but they said they had no record of giving us one. That was around 1992. It's lasted through household AC outages, kids to college....and still works great 30 years later. As a kid, my parents had a similar situation to OP. A moving company weaseled out of paying for damage to an improperly packed piece of furniture. They had also added an extra box with "antique art deco" as the description. They wrote that. We did not have a box of antique art deco. But my parents claimed the value of the "missing" box as what it has cost us to have the furniture repaired. All's well that ends well I guess. Or maybe all's fair in love and insurance fraud....I'm sure there's some platitude for it lol

It amazes me how some people just have to be right no matter what. I bought a nice new bed frame a few years ago. I had to buy extra pieces (a small kit) to make it a double bed to fit my mattress and box spring. I immediately realized that the wrong parts were with the head and footboard. They were for a single bed and there was absolutely NO way to make anything larger. I called and the woman I spoke to repeatedly insisted I was wrong. I asked her if she thought I didn't know the difference between a single and double bed? Finally I got tired of trying to convince her and I demanded that someone come back with the correct frame size or I will just bring it all back and she can refund my money. The delivery guy came and the moment he walked into the room he said, "That's the wrong frame." I told him that I could not convince their customer service lady that it was wrong. She could not even see it but insisted I was wrong and how she talked down to me. Seriously, some people!!!!

1st husband and I bought a VCR (yes I said a VCR). We bought it on store credit. No bill shows up. We go back to the store and let them know. Fill out more information. Okay. No bill next month. Go back again. Tell them no bill. Next next month...no bill. We gave up and enjoyed it for many years. I think it lasted longer than the marriage.

When I was a teen, we moved about a mile from the old place. To make things easier my parent hired a moving company. When they delivered our stuff mom found they had broken the mirror to he dresser. They replaced it, no problem. The funny thing was I looked out the window and there was the driver and crew getting their picture taken, as they were being handed a certificate. I asked my mom what was going on, and she said they were getting it for accident free deliveries.

I always pay copay to medical provider with a card or cash at time of service. Someone called months after and said I still owed for last visit. I sent a copy of receipt. Few weeks after she called again saying I actually owed for a a different visit, few months prior. So, I sent receipt for that bill too. She started to dispute history of payments. I sent the card statement showing payments and copies cash receipts. She never called again. She gave us both a headache over $40, which was their error in bad accounting. Let the Medical Group stand the loss for hiring incompetents. This storage company will be soon out of business with such incompetence OR the absentee owners will have to exorcise the ghosts that causing such mayhem with disappearing acts.

Are there no consumer protection agencies in your countries? or laws that guarantee your rights?

After being charged really high rates for his gas bill, my Dad chose to have it shut off and went all electric. He had the meter (which was in his garage) disconnected by a gas engineer and took a picture with of himself standing next to it, holding a newspaper to show the date it was cut off. The photo showed the last reading on the meter which Dad had submitted to the gas company and they said his account was paid in full. The company sent someone to disconnect the house from the supply at the kerb so it was no longer receiving any gas at all. Size months later, a bill from the gas company drops onto the doormat, they want £20 for a 'standing charge' on the meter. Apparently even though Dad's house receives no gas, the company wants him to pay for the meter still being there and the letter says it will be £20 for every month going forward. So Dad goes into the garage and rips the thing out of the wall with a crowbar and calls them to come and pick up their meter. They did.

Several years ago, my family had to temporarily move houses to get a mold problem fixed. We were lucky to find a rental that was at most 1/4th of a mile away. But cause we had to move everything out, we hired a moving company. I haven't a clue how, but those men damaged nearly every piece of furniture while driving 10mph for less than a minute down a smoothly paved road 😭 And ofc they denied breaking anything. But cause we didn't have to pay for the move (insurance covered it as part of fixing the mold) and we didn't want to deal with the hassle (the furniture was still useable), we just let it drop lol

A workmate of my father's arrived home from work one day to find a dozen large parcels and boxes on hid front verandah. No documentation and the neighbours hadn't noticed the delivery truck. No details on the boxes either - completely anonymous. Boxes contained kids play equipment - swings, see-saw, kids table and chairs, cubby house, etc. Some poor family missed out on Christmas big time. Eventually he just distributed it all around the neighbourhood as he didn't have any kids or grandchildren.

I love happy endings. Incompetent companies need to pay up . Now I have to go to reddit and see if I can find out the name of the company, Since she mentioned the Queen it is probably an English company.

I'm missing so much stuff after a interstate move of 1,800 miles. Moving company took our stuff in NC and (supposedly) stored it in a climate controlled unit in NJ. (?) We finally get our stuff delivered in CO and although I'm still not done unpacking, there's a lot of stuff missing. And damaged. Paid $18000 for this c**p? Can't wait to contact them with my list. PODS was a much better deal.

I'd be concerned about the Oompa-Loompa eggs I'd got in that missing box... surely they're ready to hatch now?

Just one more example of many. When internet, computers, cell phones and social media came along, the human part of the equation fell into ruin. People cannot think past whatever a computer tells them to do. It was way better before with social interactions and people who knew how to think critically.
