In case you didn't know how shaving legs and armpits for women became a norm, you can blame the relentless advertising campaigns. At the beginning of the 20th century, women, and of course society in general, couldn't care less about the natural hair growing on their bodies. However, after sleeveless dresses came into fashion, advertisers began targeting women's hairy armpits, encouraging women to remove them. Then followed leg hair. By the 1950s, after what seemed to be merely a fad created by annoying advertisers, shaving your hairy legs and armpits became a social norm lasting for decades.
However, these days people have begun to question the long-lasting beauty standard and its effects on women's body image. While some of us merely participate in discussions, other women dare to quit shaving and turn to social media to show that natural body hair is nothing but a normal part of their bodies.
In 2018, a woman named Laura Jackson, who was sick and tired of society telling her how her body should look, created 'Januhairy', a campaign that encourages women to ditch razor blades for a month and share their progress pics on social media. The idea picked up and each year begins to fill up with women rocking their naturally hairy bodies. Scroll below for the list of hairy women that have shared their natural beauty in the name of Januhairy!

Natural Body Hair
“There was this time where puberty was just commencing and gifted me a full-blown pube-stache, and to be given a razor to snip it off was a dream. I was thrilled to remove my hair and have baby soft, hairless skin. I was excited to finally be "beautiful". Until this little fantasy turned into a nightmare. Wherein I found myself disgusting. And if I couldn't wax it off, I shaved it all. If I was too lazy to do it, I just wouldn't go out. Because I couldn't look like that when I was going out, could I? I associated myself with something untidy, unpleasant, and loving myself turned into this tedious task because I couldn't. Until I was spotless. I had to be spotless every day. I couldn't miss a patch. I couldn't feel like a "cactus". I couldn't have them calling me a cactus. Because that's how it should be, right? Because that's what they said, that's what they like.
I now know I could. I could grow, and be just the way I am and be loved for it.
I want to grow. And I want you to see.
That I'm done. I'm wild and goddamn free.”
Exactly ! I too (and scores of my fellow men) like the natural look - porn and business made us believe a woman's body should be not natural. I they reject you for THIS, they are not worth of your attention.
Beautifully put. Yes, myself I saw it transition from eager to join the 'adult' world of shaving, primping, permanents, makeup, hairspray, powder, and douche - to (one by one) become sickened by the artificiality and self-loathing when a procedure was overdue. I hope that in time today's young folks come to appreciate and love their natural bodies without tedious and expensive modifications - many, like the hair treatments, lock you into a never ending spiral of expense so you "look good".
You are a beautiful confident woman... A real man will serve you as the Queen you are.
wow I was about to cum! oh so hard stopped it to enjoy the rest also! I love it!
Beautiful Hairy Body
“It’s incredibly validating to see this image Alex took of me shared with the intention to create a conversation how we see hair and femininity. Since this image has started to be shared I’ve gotten a lot of questions around the journey of my body hair. It’s something I’ve run from my entire life until about 3 years ago. To the point where I had developed anxiety around hair & didn’t want to even be around people who had a lot of it too. It was a deep self hatred reinforced through bullying & overall beauty standards. The last day I shaved was actually Valentine’s Day. I was told by my current boyfriend he would never take me anywhere nice with facial, armpit or leg hair so in order to please him I shaved everything so we could “have a nice date”. HE FUCKING DUMPED ME ON THAT DATE. And from that point on I made the decision to NEVER alter my body to appease someone else. That decision was probably one of the best I’ve ever made regarding my relationship with my body. Which only grew stronger when I was starting to be approached about modeling & making adult content. Modeling was something I’d wanted to do since I was a child but when I started maturing I noticed even after shaving how prominent my leg hair was so I literally just didn’t bother before. I grew up hating & hiding a part of my body that now people were LITERALLY worshiping. There are still hateful people yelling what they think of me in public but honestly who doesn’t deal with that? People will always find a reason to dislike who you are & what you’re about. That’s why I hang on to the people who love me & the kind words people send me. There’s also another reason I don’t shave that many don’t think of. I have Lyme Disease which causes chronic fatigue & an overall weakness of the immune system. So it takes a lot of energy for me to shave allll the hair I have that grows SO FAST. And when I did shave I got ingrown hairs & infections all over. My body literally had to deal with more bacteria on it JUST from shaving. This isn’t a PSA to shave or not shave. This is a PSA to choose to do what makes you happiest with your body. Thanks for reading my lil journey.”
Lyme patients unite! While I love that allowing body hair to grow is empowering women to love their bodies, I mostly don't shave because I have chronic fatigue and shaving takes a lot of energy. But it's things likely his that help me accept that that's not a bad thing. My body my choice, whatever the reason.
I love women au naturel, I hate that shaved baby-look - I want women to feel confident about their bodies - And a lot of my fellow men like it too, but are to scared to say it.
Have always admired women with your conviction who accept themselves as naturally beautiful.
Why is it automatically assumed these women are middle eastern?????
By who? By racist redneck ignorant misogynists? They don't matter. They're the same loonies that claim vaccines must never be used and trip that everyone in the middle east is BLACK! lol

‘I stopped shaving my legs about 20 years ago, and have never looked back. my armpits followed about 5 years ago, and they have become one of my new favourite parts of myself! I feel like they add a beautiful splash of colour and texture to my outfit when I wear tank tops, and they are so soft! plus when I shaved my armpits, my right armpit was really hard to reach because I am missing my left hand, so this is way easier! I love showing off my body hair on my youtube show 'Stump Kitchen' because it portrays body diversity and more possibilities for what a woman's body can look like!’
This. I wish that men and women that speak out with strong disgust about body hair would commit to a regime of DAILY shaving and experience what a multi-faceted issue it becomes. Besides the discomfort, risk of infection, constant replenishing supplies, there is the time and work. It is tedious to do a task over and over knowing tomorrow it will need doing again. (((if anyone cares to chime in about men shaving their face EVERYDAY and so they have no problem with women shaving - I believe it is pathetic to bow to social norms, shaving is a fetish. All men look better with a well-groomed beard.)))
I genuinely want to find a girl who's unshaven but no luck I'm not giving up please lady's it's there for a reason and looks godesslike
Gorgeous Hairy Legs
“I have palestinian heritage so I’m really hairy; I hate waxing cuz it’s pain, time and money; and I love my hairy legs cuz they make me feel like a bee (bees have really hairy legs and that’s one of the reasons they are the best pollinators)"
I look forward to a day when this will be a standard and people can rock whatever they want without any judgement. Gorgeous legs.
That has got to be the cutest comparison I've ever heard. I cant grow hair on my legs, but now I wish I could so I can say I'm like a bee too lol
Love those legs; as a naturist you are what you are - don't care about silly men who will reject you for not being a fake barbie - real men like you for what you are, and that includes body hair, some have a lot some don't, but what the heck !
Your Palestinian background has nothing to do with it. Many women of every nationality can have hairy legs. Many Palestinian women don't have hairy legs at all. So you have made a false association between nationality and hairy legs.
Red Carpet Looks
“I went to a red carpet event without shaving my legs!! This may sound really dumb, but it was a big deal for me. I’ve finally gotten to the point where I feel (almost) totally comfortable like this.
I stopped shaving my legs and armpits about a year ago as a practice of self-love. I grew up HATING the hair on my body. I was teased for it, snuck my mom’s razor at age 9, and would pray that god would remove my hair from the neck down. I would panic every time I got invited to go swimming and hadn’t shaved.
When I got pregnant, I decided to work to overcome this insecurity. It’s not about “not believing in shaving”, it’s about believing I AM BEAUTIFUL, ATTRACTIVE AND “FEMININE” NO MATTER WHERE I HAVE HAIR ON MY BODY. It’s about showing girls you don’t have to listen when society tells you your natural features are ugly or gross. It has taken months to get used to it. The horrible online comments don’t help. But I’m getting there.
Remember, if someone has a problem with the way you look, that’s an issue with THEIR mentality, not YOUR body.”

Guys who don't like it are backward morons and are fake inhumanistic beings. When a child grows up, the body hair comes and that is something to be proud of

"See me // within it all I never saw myself seen I didn’t know of a language to make it make sense, feel real, to make it stick. surface living to quell the anxieties of not knowing who you are and where you come from. a void is not a dormant soundless hole, it can be a chaotic dissonant space, it can be a vortex at your core that wrings you out and leaves you broken. if I don’t see me, am i real? our stories buried and burned, histories willfully misrecorded, bodies brutalized and distorted. the heavy labor of our existence, the work that works to piece the pieces. our tongues cut, leaving us speechless, their language was never meant for us, our work is our narratives in flux, sounds, words, images, movement that is us. all new but rooted in a knowing that is before us all. even in my younger days where I never knew a world like this could exist for me, I felt a stirring that pushed me forth despite no blueprint or support, whatever that force was I thank it every day, and I work to nourish it."
Women didn't even start shaving until the early 20th century and that was just because shaving product companies wanted to profit off of women
It was because the 1920s came along and skirts got shorter. The companies saw an untapped market.

“I feel powerful and beautiful with my hairy pits. I feel even more powerful when it’s colorful. It makes me feel so powerful knowing that just some hair can cause an uproar, make people uncomfortable or angry. That they cannot stand hair on a woman. We’re all human beings and grow hair for a reason. So why is it okay for men but not women? I don’t think it makes me any less of a woman having it. I feel beautiful, sexy, comfortable, glowing, a goddess with or without it. I don’t care if you like it or not. I don’t care what you have to say on it. I don’t care what anyone thinks on it except me. As long as it makes me happy, that’s what matters.”
If people really want to demand we go hairless, fine, but men have to do it too. No reason to have that sort of double standard. Do it or don't do it.
I just laugh when a man who has so much hair everywhere that it practically looks like gorilla fur, criticizes a woman for not shaving. Guy has hobbit feet and a beard growing on his back, yet he's talking about how women should trim their forearm hair... Forearm hair! Oh, you find that unattractive? Did you ever look in a mirror? Don't judge other people's body hair when you don't cut off your own body hair.

“Today in our puberty lesson I talk to all of my students about where body hair is likely to show up, and not just in the normal places they may think of, we talked about extra body hair on our stomachs, arms, faces, lips and chest for all genders. —
We talked about pubic hair and how as you grow older it is common for your hair to cover more and more area. —
We also talked about labia minora and majora... how they come in different shapes, sizes, colors and length... to the whole class. —- We talked about why the topic of our bodies is uncomfortable and what our society’s role is in making us feel shame. —— We talked about why it’s important not to separate the class by genders to have these talks and how knowledge is power and we need to know our bodies and how bodies of any of our future partners may work. —
We talked about “out of the norm” topics like how any gender can grow breasts. And we talked about how important it is to de sexualize breasts. —- We talked about how much shame and hurt it causes people who are judged for their bodies and the changes it’s going through. —- It was an amazing talk. Tomorrow we will have a q and a. I’m excited to see what more they want to talk about. —- I showed my leg hair again and the kids showed me theirs lol 😂 —- I said about 16161892 times “gender is a social construct” I hope they get it now hahah"
Fantastic! Thank you for being such an inclusive and rational teacher!
Thank you for sharing. I've always struggled as a woman. I don't see a reason to shave, but feel uncomfortable about not shaving - that I won't seem feminine/beautiful. (My compromise is to shave in/during the summer.) Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for teaching everyone - all genders. As a teacher, parent & human being, thank you.

If you want to shave then go for it! If you don't want to shave then that's fine too!

Shaving/waxing your bikini line sucks big fat sweaty balls. It’s great for about two days... THEN THE HAIR GROWS BACK. You are riddled with ingrown hairs that rub along the edges of your underpants which turn into painful sores. You end up walking like a cowboy with jock itch until the hairs finally grow back. Any men who complain about this—do me a favor, shave your crotch area then wait a few days. You’re welcome.
5,000 upvotes from me!!!!! I was crotch-shaved for the birth of my first child, I swore NEVER AGAIN. It was months until the last ingrown hair was conquered. Nature has provided us with everything needed if we don't fight it and make ourselves hate what belongs there.

“Why does society still shame women for having body hair? If a woman has armpit hair, she's apparently "disgusting", "unkept" or has "bad hygiene", but if a man has armpit hair, no one says anything because "he's a man"...really? That's the only reasoning we need? If you leave a comment about your opinion, please also leave your reasoning.”
Yes, apparently if a woman doesn't shave her armpits it's dirty and unhygienic but if a man doesn't, then no one says anything. Every man criticising women for not shaving their armpits better have cleanly shaved armpits themselves before judging anyone else
Counterpoint...women are shamed even if they don't flaunt it. That's the whole reason they do it. They obviously don't care about what a man has to say.

My take away from these kinds of comments is always: I do not care what other people think about my body because I am the only person who has to live in it. Every decision I make is my own. And I’m passing that on. This is particularly important as we enter the Christmas season i.e. the season where body shaming relatives come out of their homes to tell you to stop eating the panettone and ‘watch your waistline’

Wow, I once dated a beautiful full breasted, full figured woman like yourself and on our first date was absolutely delighted that she kept her armpit, leg and pubic hair. I live in the Portland, Oregon area of the USA and here women of all types and ages with full body hair are as common as the rain, pine trees and mountains and nobody cares! You see plenty of guys here with wives or girlfriends who have armpit and leg hair especially in the summer and they are fine with it like I am. Many of us consider it natural, much more mature looking and very attractive and sexy. For my part I consider it attractive because it makes me feel like I am looking at/being with a female who looks like an adult and not a 6 year old girl. I have always and always will encourage the natural females I date, weather permitting, to wear armpit exposing tops when we go out as I want people to see that I am quite happy and proud to have a natural girlfriend.

Since I'm hairy too I feel so good and comfortable and I'm proud of this model. “There’s a lot of talk in the body-posi movement about women + non-binary folks* embracing their body hair, which is great. but every time this conversation comes up, the bodies & hair that’s used as an example for this embracing are light-skinned and/or with straight & fine hairs.⠀

I tell them actually it doesn't and she doesn't even wear deodorant or antiperspirant because I like the earthy, musky aroma, not odor, that her armpit hair produces. I then tell them that the only time she really sweats under her arms is during sex which for me is perfectly natural and healthy and that always shuts them up!

My Body, My Rules
"Sometimes I shave,
Sometimes I don't.
I know why I shave. I shave because of norms, because this world hates women.
I shave because I sometimes aren't feeling mentally stable enough to deal with the world seeing me as abnormal.
I conform to the norms when I'm not strong enough to fight them. And it's okay. It's okay if you're not there yet, it's okay if you have to prioritize your mental sanity over smashing the norms.
Ask yourself this: If the norm was to not shave - would you still shave?
Or: If you were at a deserted island, all by yourself - would you still shave "just for you"?
It is important to realize WHY you do what you do. There is nothing wrong with shaving. There is nothing wrong with letting it grow and just be. But know why you do what you do.
I am tired of hearing women, including myself, say "I shave for me" - like, honestly. Would you, really, if for example the norm was that shaving was only something guys did? Think about it. Question everything. "
Ana j I always see you on this site writing the nastiest comments and I don't get it. Don't you have something better to do than just belittle people constantly in these posts? If you don't like so much of what you see why are you even on this site!?
I think she's really insecure and it helps her feel better to put other people down. But yeah I don't understand why she's on this site when all she does is post negative comments
Load More Replies...So i'm gonna get downvoted for this, but this is ridiculous." The world hates women". I am a feminist all my life and for a girl living in a first world country this is a dumb and totally uncalled for statement. In some countries, were rape and genital cutting and child marriage is common, ok. But not in an educated society were people have rights and male and female both can vote and be voted. Get over it. Society puts claims on man and women equally, some- like the pastels- can easily be ignored,- some should be fought over- child marriage in some states in the US is allowed- some are just dumb and should be adressed-apparently smile more is sthg. american women get on a regular basis, i am german and do not get this c**p and if so has a problem with my resting b***h face he can go stuff it- but no, the world doesn't hate women. The world likes to exploit weak persons. I am woman. I am not weak. We do not have to fight against hate on woman. We have to fight against the exploitation
Of the weak, and, gasp, the weak aren' t just women. Often, they are marginalised men as well. We have to stregthen the weak, not crying because we are poor woman. Utter bullc*ap. I love being a woman, and being treated as such.

If you aren't a woman you would never see/feel the contempt we face daily in some manner. Just like you wouldn't understand what a black man/woman feels on a daily basis.

"What a shame it is that body image has such an impact on one's mental health. Januhairy isn’t just about hairy women; it is a rebellion against societal pressures driving destructive behaviour. Behaviour that we inflict on ourselves and on others. The anxiety that comes with our attempts to conform to social norms and be ‘perfect’, is heartbreaking to witness, let alone experience. I hope that you are kind to your body today. Nurture it in whatever way that means for you. Self compassion doesn’t have to exclude other people… some days you may need a little more than what you are giving yourself and that's okay; seeking help from others when you are in need of it, is still self compassion. On #mentalhealthawarenessday work on letting go of the pressure to be ‘perfect’ and instead, realise you are a unique and precious person, and accept yourself… just as you are.
Love, Laura."
its so funny that hofflensmetalhedlovesanimalsUK is saying all this but hes the one looking at all these women probably cause his own wife wont sleep with him.LMAOOO

“Even though I‘ve started to grow my body hair, I still was a bit angry at it because it seemed to disconnect me with society - because I was always afraid of showing it and being looked at. I started to expose myself bit by bit and it helped me to also be proud of other parts of me and my body. But still I sometimes thought that my hair is something ugly and something that is against me and tried to hide it. But today a wonderful image came to my mind that changed my attitude:
Bodyhair is like bushes around a beautiful mansion that keep away the gaze of the masses. A lot of people don‘t even see the mansion because of the bushes. But if they take some time to stop and really have a look, they discover the beauty of it all. Of the bushes and the mansion behind. And they are thankful that they are one of the few to see that.
I can finally see the protecting quality of body hair, and that it helps me and leads me to the right people"

I never shave my thighs and they don't look hairy at all. Not everybody has hairy legs! I have very dark haired armpits and foof but the rest of me is sparsely haired. Give the girl a break!
This is so cool! My girlfriend's body hair is exactly like yours! Same color and amount AND she has a swimsuit very similar to what you are wearing. We both love the looks she gets when we go to the beach and people get a glimpse of her armpit and pubic hair. It cracks us both up tremendously!
Maybe that’s what she’s comfortable with. Arms and bikini are fine, but doesn’t want to leave her legs. Each to their own (:

“WARNING: We are humans. Humans have hair. (Nervous to post this but here we go...)
It took me a number of years to get comfortable not grooming my body based on unfair beauty standards. But hey, here I am!!! And I’ve decided to say something public about it.
I’ve been growing my body hair for a few years now. I used to think about it every time I wore shorts or every time I raised my hand. But now it barely crosses my mind. And that’s because I LOVE IT!!!! Growing my hair has made me feel liberated and empowered in sooo many ways. I realized that I wasn’t shaving because I wanted to - it was because I was taught (by the patriarchy) that I will look untidy or unladylike if I don’t pretend to be hairless. But guess what? My hair is part of MEEEEE. It’s part of all of us. I’m done hiding it.
I’m privileged to be in a body that doesn’t face danger from making a decision like this. However, I have been shamed and judged for it. If your preference is for women to not have body hair... that is the work you need to do. Ask yourself... why do I have that preference? Don’t make women feel ugly for choosing not to shave. I’m tired of hearing stories from friends about men commenting on their body hair. Let’s normalize our hair. It’s just hair after all!!!!! Here’s to showing the next generation that bodies have hair and it’s OKAY! It’s great! It’s a body! Yay bodies!
Shoutout to all the women in my life who are my proud pit sistas like @stephbrener!!! I was told this week (by a man) that it’s unattractive to be a woman with body hair... so many of my incredibly inspiring friends shared their own stories of this too when I confided in them. It’s so sad that we live in a world where we pretend that women look a particular way. I sure have a lot of work to do to continue to figure out who I am in this world... I plan to keep doing it with all my hair blowing in the wind!!!! Comment if you have a shared experience - let’s support each other! And if you see the pics and think it’s gross... do the work you need to do to unlearn that!! Love to all who are reading this whole thing"

Beautiful Hairy Legs
“Tomorrow, I'm saying goodbye to the hairiest legs I've ever loved. Tonight, I'm remembering the shame I felt as a 10 year old girl whose leg hair had just been noticed by one of her classmates. Two days later, my parents made fun of the same hair as I rested my bare legs on the dash board of our family car in the hot summer sun. My best friend's mom bought me my first razor when I was 11, and I could not wait to get rid of the hair that signaled something ugly and gross to the world around me. But tonight, I'm saying thank you to that natural part of me. Thank you for letting me feel the spring breeze in an entirely new way. Thank you for reminding me that I am not beholden to the world's standard of beauty or femininity. To the girl in 5th grade who made me feel like a werewolf, I wish you could see those fine baby hairs now. They're all grown up and not afraid of what you think any more.”
Just commenting so diana burlacescu's comment isn't the first one you see, since it's negative and toxic.
My "best friend" in high school called my thigh hair, gorilla hair. (I have always liked my hair) - it was a hard pill to swallow & up until that point I hadn't though of it as negative. Best of luck to all of us who have had negative experiences. Thank you for being brave enough to share
A woman with a natural body is the most beautiful thing ever. Body especially all natural no shaving breast augmentation ect. I think a womans body is the best if she doesnt try to alter her looks to fit in. Pubic hair ect are all a natural part of a womans body. People judge a body for stretch marks after pregnancy or sagging breasts due to age but it is all a natural thing and nature is beautiful.
So your very manly husband is smelly too, since body hair is smelly? Or is body hair smelly only on women?

“I have extremely sensitive skin so I’ve always found that shaving would result in really painful razor burn, waxing would cause ingrown hairs and removal cream would burn my skin, so one day I thought is removing my hair really worth it (I was also having a environmental dilemma with using disposable razors and the amount of waste they cause stressed me out!)
But now I honestly love my body hair, the look, the feel, everything about it I adore and I feel incomplete without it! Now I strut around with my sexy arm pits. Honestly it’s so inspiring and heart warming to see people getting on board with this...Cause at the end of the day it’s just hair!”

Next step - give up bras. We all have nipples. Why do women have to cover theirs? Go bra less for a few weeks then wear a bra. You’ll realize how uncomfortable they are.
Some explain to me why you feel strong and confident. All it makes you feel is hairy. This is a big NOPE for me. It does not look, good ladies.

“This journey started for me back when I was 24 so I’ve been growing my body hair out for four years. When I started growing out my body hair it was for more rebellious reasons that it was for a positive movement. My mother at the time wanted me to wax my legs and armpits because she wanted me to be attractive enough for my boyfriend. This shook me to the core and I rebelled by the siding I would never shave anything again. As time went on I started noticing people’s reaction to my body hair...one of disgust and disapproval.
At the time of my life I was going through wanting to learn how to love myself. When I say I love myself I mean fully the parts of me that are deemed ugly, and should be hidden. So the day came where I realize I wanted to make a statement. I wanted to take something that people make wrong and disgusting about themselves and make it beautiful.
So for me this journey is about self love and loving all parts of me. Not making any part of me wrong. So for me it turned into self-love, a self loving decision to love all of me...because I believe all of me wants to be loved.”

“To grow or to not grow? That was the question. I shaved robotically for 10 years until I started dating women. One had a bush, one had leg hair, and another let it grow everywhere. I was scared and judgemental at first, but I learned to look past the hair bc each woman was just so damn beautiful while letting it grow!
Today, I rock my hair with pride. I'm not worried about what anyone thinks. Most men say they love it bc armpit hair is a symbol of rebellion and strength.
And I must admit, I do feel like a sexy warrior woman when I let it grow.”

‘My hair was my worst enemy. Since I was 13 I started shaving. Hair, I thought, was masculine and dirty. In a predominantly white environment in which all girls had little or almost no hair, I felt excluded. Not only because of my skin colour but also because of my generous, dense and curly black hair.
I shaved my body hair, cut it, i removed it with wax… so much money, time and pain invested in a competition that I could never have won. So, 3 years ago I decided to stop shaving my legs. It was such a release! Then accepting my belly hair, back hair, armpit hair...I questioned our sexist beauty standards. And I realised they were just that: sexist beauty standards.
When I was a teenager, I wish I had female models celebrating their body hair. I wish my mother would encourage me more to accept my hair. Today I want to be me, I want to be a model for the other young people and I want to “Talk-Hair”. What fascinates me about hair is that they can be a vector full of messages: Back to natural, resistance tool, symbol of beauty etc. I often forget that I’m hairy. The looks of others reminds me. I can then smile and thank them for reminding me my hair is proudly here. My hair is sacred, every inch of my body, my soul, free from your control, it’s a whole.

“It's the final day of Januhairy. But that does not mean the hairy battle has been won. Being part of this campaign over the last month has been eye- opening and truly extraordinary. I've learnt a lot about people, namely that there are some real opinionated arseholes out there, but also (and more importantly) that for every opinionated arse there are hundreds of brilliant women ready to up and speak out about the power of body positivity. Januhairy may be drawing to a close, but the conversations it has started over the last few weeks certainly shouldn't be. So whether you're hairy or not, let's keep spreading the love, because goddammit it's about time @ janu..hairy"

“Sometime in December, I had a bad reaction from using a new roll-on brand. It lasted for some weeks and because of that, I couldn’t shave. Before the infection had completely healed, I started to feel insecure about my armpit hair. I felt the pressure to shave because of societal expectations and so eventually I did despite being advised not to. And guess what? I ended up in the hospital with a drip on, multiple injections and a near surgery and the infection took even longer to heal. I put my health on the line because of ‘unacceptable’ armpit hair. It’s a bit crazy looking back at the situation now and how far I went because of feeling that people around me might not be able to stand the site of a natural part of my body.Do I have anything against shaving? Absolutely not! But here’s what I know; shaving too often can harm my skin and hair removal creams contain chemicals that can cause irritation. Am I under any obligation to shave? Absolutely not! I’m learning to embrace a part of me that I had grown to detest. I’m also learning that my health and well being come above any societal expectations. I’m learning to live free every single day no matter how scary it seems. I’m learning that my own freedom lies in my hands and as soon as I say, ‘what will they think?’ I give power to people I don’t even know.”

Here's the deal. I don't find it attractive, but it's because women shaving has been so normalised that being natural doesn't seem natural. However, people can do what they want with their body hair as it's none of my business or anyone else's. Nobody has the right to tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't do and they wouldn't like it if someone told them what they should do.
Shave. Don't shave. Just bear in mind that the cultural norm was to have hair until *very* recently in human history. And your body hair varies over your lifetime (hormones etc.) so... live, let live.
I like hairy women. I grew up in a household with six women. I remember hearing all the complaints about body hair, and the time it took these women to deal with it and makeup and all that c**p. It definitely left an impression on me. What excites me is seeing self-actualized women. Fearless and strong. Women who are confident and don’t care about the puritanical opinions of society. Wearing body hair as an accessory! Awesome!
From a guy, for what it's worth, BRAVO. It's a shame there even needs to be an article celebrating this, though it makes sense since it bucks our cultural norm. It's just a shame hairless women is our cultural norm. Be yourself, do what makes you comfortable and happy, and nevermind those that reject your choices. These women are sexy, no two ways about it.
