The Way This Woman Described Each And Every One Of Her 20 Sled Dogs Is Hilariously Wholesome
The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is a legendary annual competition, testing dogs and mushers to the limit for almost 1000 miles across the Alaskan wilderness. Naturally, for such a grueling event, dogs and humans need to be in top condition and well in-tune to each other, much like any sporting team going into battle.

Blair Braverman and her pups have been training hard for this year’s race, which takes place in March. She knows her team inside out, their strengths and weakness, character and quirks. As an author with a passion for the outdoors and a flair for prose, she figured why not introduce her team to the world, and it’s one of the most wholesome things we’ve ever seen.

Each of her 20-strong crew, of which 14 will be selected for the actual race, has a unique and adorable character, and they come across as far more interesting than the platitudes and cliches you get from most human athletes. Twitter has understandably gone wild for the team, with the posts being liked and shared thousands of times. I don't know how many times I've said or agreed with the sentiment "We don't deserve dogs." This lady may be one of the few who actually does deserve her dogs because she, in return for their work and unconditional love, is able to give so much back to them, where many of the rest of us fall short.

I love this! Its opened my eyes - I always thought sled dogs had to be bigger fluffier dogs like Huskies or Malamutes? I didn't realize they could be these smaller guys. So cool!

Good sled dogs tend to be leggy, wiry, and tough - and the big fluff balls that people call "huskies" just aren't any of that. They've been bred to be pets. These dogs are workers. They have a job and they love it.

The only thing as beautiful as these wonderful and gorgeous dogs is the love you share with them. I wish you all the love and luck in the world in everything you do. Please give them all an extra hug from me. You are so lucky to have these beautiful dogs in your life and they in turn are luck to have such an amazing loving and caring owner like you.

When we got our puppy( display image) they said she'd be a fantastic runner. We've done all sorts of things to coax her into running but she simply wont budge and she also didn't like going out in the cold as much. These days she likes to spend her time lounging on her day bed in Key Largo no less. She has also acquired a small collection of wigs from our drag queen friend.

She's like a cat then! She knows what you want. She just doesn't care. Smart dog. ...///... One of our neighbours has a greyhound because that dog just decided not to run. She loves the training. She loves running. She just won't race. They open the little gate and she's curled up, fast asleep. The breeder thought it was hilarious. She's a terrific pet, and her present owner does take her to the track when no one's there so she can burn off energy and stay fit.

I've always found dogsledding really cool, but after seeing these Tweets about the dogs, it also seems like a really heartwarming and meaningful activity, for both the dogs and the trainer. Those dogs seem like they lead a really happy life together!

Last year I did a five day expedition with huskys in Finland. It was ma-gi-cal! Those dogs are unbelievable, they have such strength, they're incredibly cute and they pull the sled as if their lives depend on it. Amazing animals. I miss Valkyria, Pinja, Musta and Yogi... And those landscapes as well! I cried like a baby when we entered what I call a crystal forest. Every branch of every tree was wrapped in ice crystals and the sun was shining through. That was so magical and achingly beautiful.

Idk if this particular person is ever cruel to the dogs, but after learning about the Iditarod through Sled Dog Action Coalition and rescuing two neglected huskies, there is no way I will ever support dog races for money.

The SDAC will present a very biased view of dogsledding. If this is your only source of information on either the Iditarod or dogsledding, you are uninformed.

I did not know they wear booties sometimes. I know the ice can hurt their pads, but i didn't know there were actual "socks" to help them. I wonder if they wear them all the time or just part of the time?

I wasn't sure this would be "ok" with me, I love animals so much, I had a picture of dogs not being treated to my standards .. like a member of the family that they are, but no need for worry here, this fur Mama obviously loves her dogs very much, loved the story and also the fact not every dog is like my lap baby, some really do have a passion for working :) ... great story!

I know you made this comment 3 years ago, but I would just like to ensure you that if any musher is caught neglecting or abusing there dog in any way, they would have a hefty fine and kicked out of the state of Alaska. I actually live there, and a musher from Sweden was once caught using a whip and got a 10,000 dollar fine and kicked out of the state of Alaska. But good on you for caring about animals. I don’t mean to say anything hurtful, just facts

Iditarod should be stopped, dogs die every year in this race. I'm not saying this person would let it happen but it does happen too often still. I'm sure the dogs love to race but things need to change in this race to keep it safe for all of them...

Accidents during this race are pretty much always caused by owner mistakes. Whether it be overwhelming the dog, or even taking a dog that isn’t in good enough shape. Many deaths are caused by dogs just dropping, which is not natural for the breed and should be taken seriously, but when that happens it’s more often than not caused by extreme fatigue or something similar. These dogs were and are bred to pull sleds and run, but they still need to take breaks. They belong at the Iditarod but the owners need to know how to properly manage. (HOWEVER, that’s not to say there are no accidents where it’s not the handler at fault, such as a snowmobile hitting a dog, or a dog crashing into another sled, but a good majority are because of the handler)
