When we look at our grandparents, it's easy to forget that the old geezers were once young and vibrant like us. In fact, they may have even been cooler. Let's celebrate the earliest of their many years by uploading photos from our grandparents' glory days.

I found some information on Reddit, from the OP: "Q) Did she fly during the war? A) Yes. She would fly planes to front line bases to "restock" when they lost planes in battle. For the British armed forces. Q) Why did she have a troop of lions? A)She moved away from England to South Africa after the war and ended up working in a circus as a lion tamer(before the war she'd worked at the London zoo with lions) Q)Are lions used in warfare? A)Not that I'm aware of. Q)Does Sultan like tummy tickles? A)Most definitely yes. She was a very caring trainer and always embraced the idea of forming a relationship with animals rather than trying to bend them to your will."

These jobs were left to women, while the men fought . Equality went downhill, when the war ended.

8 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Briefly, yes, but those women told their daughters about the important work they had done in the war. This inspired the equality fights in the 60's and 70's. In the long run, the war had a massive (positive) impact on women's rights. As a simple test: Do you have to ask you father or husband's permission to buy anything? Or to cut your hair? Or to travel anywhere? Never forget how far we've come and the women who brought us here. I only wish all women around the world had the same freedoms we take for granted in the West.

I notice a lot of brides never really smile on pictures from that era. Oh, if I could only read their minds!

A lot of it was because of the film. You had to stay still for longer, and it was harder to hold a smile for a length of time.

Very elegant and beautiful. She reminds me of Deborah Kerr from the classic movie “An Affair to Remember “ with Cary Grant.

She is a striking lady. Very strong (she seems to be here) and dazzling beautiful. you are luck to have such a good photo of her. My great Grandfather was Norwegian (my father's mother's father). He emigrated to New Zealand around about 1890 and married an Irish woman. I never met my Grandmother. I have one photo of her. Only one. None of him. We could be related! By the way, I found you via the photos of Carl Stormer [https://www.boredpanda.com/spy-camera-secret-street-photography-carl-stormer-norway/?page_numb=15] Thanks for that comment. Gave the images a lot of context.
